Out-Of-Character
Minecraft Account Name: SalinVomlir
How old are you?: 16, nearing 17.
Time-Zone/Country of Residence: EST/EDT (USA)
Do you have a good grip on the English language/good grammar?: I’d like to say that I do.
Small 2-3 Sentence Description of yourself: I’ve always been interested in video games, specifically role-playing ones. I’ve also always had a knack for sport fishing, something I do for a hobby quite often. Also, as you’ll tell after you finish reading the application, I love to read.
How much time could you be on the server weekly?: I’d like to try to dedicate at least twenty hours, though if my schedule allows it, and I enjoy the server, I’d love to spare even more.
What do you know about Roleplaying? Give a definition of what it means to you: Role-playing is when you take on the role of a fictional character. You use your imagination to develop how the character behaves in the world set out for them, in this case a fictional world known as Asulon. The only limitation would be your own mind and, of course, the rules of the server.
What experience have you had in Roleplaying, if any?: I’ve played on one other RP Minecraft server, which a hope will be similar just with a broader and more active community. Whilst I don’t have a ton of experience in the topic, I’m always willing to learn to increase my skill in the area. There’s also been a few obscure Forums that held specific RP threads that I participated in, however these usually only lasted a brief period of time.
In your own Words, define what the act of Meta-Gaming is: Meta-Gaming is using information that you, as an actual person, learn out of context. You then use that information in context as if your character had actually learned it. An example of this is if someone had told you via TeamSpeak the location of some hidden loot. Your character, which hadn’t learned this legitimately, goes off and somehow knows the exact location where this treasure is buried.
In your own Words, define what the act of Power-Gaming is: From what I’ve read on your forums, Power-Gaming is just another term for God-Modding. It’s when a player is over-powered in some sort of way, often not even giving the other party the ability to win in a situation. Ex – *John charges with his axe, preparing to strike Mike* (In this scenario, John WOULDN’T be power-gaming, as he’s giving Mike a chance to evade the fight or make his advance) *Mike notches an arrow, aims, then fires. The precision is true, hitting John directly in the middle of his skull. He falls down dead in an instant* (Mike in this case WOULD be power-gaming. He didn’t give John any chance to dodge or time to respond with RP.)
What do you expect this server will be like?: I hope to find a bunch of like-minded individuals who enjoy to roleplay just as much as I do.
What other server(s) have you played on and why did you leave them?: Just those I listed above, more notably the other MC server. I quit playing as the majority of the player base grew inactive, mainly the friends that I had made on it.
Have you read, understood, and agreed to the rules?: Yes, I have read, understand, and agree to all the rules set before me. I know that if I break any of them I will face the consequences.
Do you promise to abide by said rules, and laws? This includes the Server, Forum, and Teamspeak set Rules: I promise I will abide by all the rules and laws, whether they be for the server, forums, or TeamSpeak.
How did you hear about us? Did someone refer you?: I’ve been recommended to the server by a friend of mine. I knew previously about you guys by seeing your page on the Minecraft forum, and with my departure from my old server, I thought this would be a great time to apply.
Have you previously made an Application? If so could you link us to your last Application?: No, this is my first application to the server.
Have you posted this application on our minecraft forum thread yet? If not, just finish it up on here and then copy + paste is over there. (http://www.minecraftforum.net/topic/832121-%E2%96%91%E2%96%92%E2%96%93-the-lord-of-the-craft-%E2%96%93%E2%96%92%E2%96%91-enter-the-world-of-asulon-o-f-f-i-c-i-a-l-l-y-t-h-e-n-o-1-r-p-s-e-r-v-e-r/): Yes, I have posted this application on the thread.
In-Character:
Character Name: Salin Vomlir
What Race are you?: Human
What Sub-Race are you? (note, you aren’t required to have a sub-race): None
Biography (Please make this at least 2 paragraphs long. This must include the history of your character and his life as well as age, appearance and personality, etc.): Vomlir has always been a name that is always spoken of as a distinguished family amongst others. Whilst the family wasn’t rich, they were far better off than the common peasant farmer. The kindred of this family mainly consisted of noble professions, mainly that of scholars and philosophers. The fourth of the Vomlir generation now resided out in the deep, Holy Oren forests. The once large clan now only consisted of a handful of people. Those that still hadn’t moved on from the old estate were a male and female, married together.
The two would wither away their time by studying volumes from their large book collection, one of the two prized possessions, and probably the only things the family had, of value. They were what was known as a typical Vomlir; Uncaring of public opinion, docile by nature, and having a strong love for reading. Their physical features didn’t vary drastically, with only things such as their shade of skin and eye color at odds. Otherwise, they both stood around 5’8 and had rich brown hair. And when the woman finally was at the time to bear the birth of a child, it wasn’t of surprise that he looked nearly identical to the two of them.
They named him Salin, after the first known ancestor of the Vomlir family. It was a name that symbolized vast amounts of knowledge and the determination to accomplish. These were two terms that would come to shine true of the child’s namesake. Time passed and the child continued to grow, learn, and wonder. Just as his parents and their parents before them, Salin enjoyed a more scholarly approach to life. Alongside the myriad of books that were stacked in his room, his parents would also contribute to increasing his knowledge through schooling lessons.
Seeing as there were no neighbors in the nearby vicinity, Salin had always been sheltered and a recluse from the other events of the world. As a result, he by own thought was naïve to evil and other such atrocities; That is, until he left home.
At age 23, both Salin’s mother and father grew ill with a plague of sorts. His father, as is tradition, gave him the ancestral dagger passed down through the Vomlir bloodline. This dagger was only given when the current elder was near death. Salin knew both of their deaths were soon to come. To prevent his own taint of the disease, Salin had no choice to evacuate the home. He mounted the family stead and rode off towards Renatus, where he would be forced to adapt to the world that surrounded him every day, yet he never knew about. A world filled with despair, death, and poverty, yet in Salin’s world there was peace. He was not prepared for such events, events he thought only occurred in the fiction of books.
What are your Character's ambitions?: Salin wishes to find what the meaning of his existence is. He wishes to do this not only for himself, but for the sake of future generations as well. He believes that if he isn’t to complete his mission, the sentient races shall succumb to their old ways of barbarianism. To do this he wishes to wander the land, collecting and documenting the knowledge, history, and tales of the land.
What is your character’s favorite tool? (sword, pickaxe, shovel, etc): There’s no specific tool that Salin favors over the next. The only true weapon that he’s ever wielded was an ancestral cermonial knife, always passed forth to every new male child of the Vomlir bloodline. He has experience with neither tools used for lumberjacking, mining, or farming as well, having never been exposed to tedious labor.
What is one of your Character's most skilled talents? While he has no particular physical talents that set him apart from the common human, he does have mental capabilities and philosophies far more developed then average. This commonly causes him the recluse from large crowds, feeling as though his educated nature makes him an outcast amongst common folk. He’s always been a author by nature, writing novels in his spare time.
A screenshot of your skin (must be in proper format, if you do not know how to acquire one, click here: http://www.lordofthecraft.net/forum/index.php?/topic/51343-how-to-obtain-your-skin-screenshot/):
Other Information about your Character: None.
Open-Response-Questions
Whilst traveling from the Cloud Temple you see a small halfling, being harassed by two armed warriors. They appear to be trying to steal money from him, how does your character respond? Salin’s bundle of texts are clenched anxiously as he quickly paces by the scene. “Why do such atrocities happen, and in such a holy place?” he wonders. “Only the creator’s infinite knowledge could comprehend”. Salin is soon out of the sight of the scene. The last thing he witnessed was a stream of blood coming from the Halfling’s shattered face, who was lying upon the floor. He had trouble sleeping that night, so he spent his time reading and pondering what different possibilities could’ve arose from the earlier mugging.
Your character wanders into Alras, and comes across a small stall, behind which a well dressed man is standing. He’s offering various wares, the merchant turns to you and says in a posh accent " 'ello there, what can I do you for today?" What is your character response? Salin approaches hesitantly, peering at the different goods set about the stand. He notices a find gold inlayed book set to the right. His eyes sparkle in suprise. “That parchment, to the left. What’s it about?” Not knowing, the vendor picks it up and studies the inside cover. “It appears to be something about ancient Dwarven culture. From what I can tell, it’s dated all the way back to Aegis.” Salin nods, still having a smile stuck on his face. He knows that this is quite the find if he can haggle a good price. “So, do you have a set price in mind?” “Sure do, son. 200 Minas, though I’m willing ‘ta barter with you.” 200 Minas!, Salin thought. What a steal for such a masterpiece! “200 Minas? Sure, I’ll take it.” Salin attempts to conceal his overzealous joy from the man, as he clearly doesn’t know the historical worth the document holds. Salin hands over a small pouch, counts out the money, then slides it over to the merchant. He then grasps the book with his right hand. “A good day to you, good sir. You’ve just made my day.” Salin walks off without another word, heading home to study and interpret his new found book.
Whilst wandering in the wilds, your character comes across a small hut, which looks abandoned. Inside it you see a chest containing a few iron bars, and a golden sword. How would your character respond?: As Salin opens the lid of the container, it lets out a large creak. The shine of precious metals comes suddenly to Salin, who looks away for a second so his eyes may adjust. “Now lets take a look what we have here.” For several minutes he sits at the edge of the chest, thoroughly examining the sword, attempting to discover its origin. After a while he comes to a conclusion. “I suppose it’s just a crude server, most likely crafted by an Orcish smith. Best not disturb anything.” He places it back within the wooden chest, shuts the lid, and then leaves the hut the same as when he had entered.
Hungry and lost in the wilderness, you stumble across a small trading camp nestled among the forest, they greet you you in the common tongue, how do you respond? “Ah finally, people who I can understand! Wonderful!” Salin and the man exchange several verses about why he has come to the camp and his reason for being in these desolate barrens. “My name is Salin. You see, good sir, I’m on a journey to reveal the truth. I’m in seek of knowledge, though at the moment I could use some nourishment as well. ” “Ah, fair enough. We have plenty to spare. Jimmy, go fetch this kind fellow a loaf of bread and jug of wine. Don’t keep us waiting!” After some more casual conversation, the discussion soon turns in to that of knowledge. The man is clearly getting trustful of Salin, being able to relate to his stories. “Salin, you seem like a decent man. As you probably noticed, I’m a man of business. I currently have this book available, normally an expensive artifact. I want you to take it, in good faith. Perhaps would day our paths shall cross once again.” Salin grabs the book and exchanges thanks with the man. Later in the afternoon, after enjoying the recourse, Salin leaves the camp. He records the days events in the log, and begins the first chapter of his new novella.
You hear word that bandits occupy the road outside the town in which you have been staying. The town guard have gathered, and are asking for assistance to help eliminate them. The leader of the party is offering a reward for any who offer their support. How does your character act on this information?: “Money, such a trivial and meaningless item when you think of it. Such a pity, so much needless death just for a couple of coin. Think of what those people could’ve become, had they not been killed?” The leader of the posse notices Salin mumbling to himself. “Son, ya’ll just going to stand there like a damn maniac or do you actually want to help?” Salin rubs the back of his long, raggedy hair before responding. “Sir, if you wish to perceive me as such, so be it. Though I refuse to risk my life just for a needless commodity. Good day to you, Sir.” Salin turns around and trots off. The only sound that is heard is the mocking and laughing of the guards.
