  1. That would be you.

You are not "King Carrion", the proper way to write it is in fact "King Heinrik".

    Consider the following;

King Henry IV and Queen Elizabeth III

Not "King Tudor" nor "Queen Windsor"

Also, in technicality royalty holds no last names but are members of Houses...

Hence why it is "King Heinrik of House Carrion".

    TheMoreYouKnow.gif

(( pretty sure knox is referring to heinrik ending in a 'k', rather than a 'ck'. Still, nice explanation.

  2. ((The king lives in Krelm, In kralta just so you know. That fort thing in Abresi is for the decterum and the guard force))

That 'fort thing' is for the guardforce. Not the Decterum, who have their base at Cavan.

The King does indeed currently reside in the Krelm, but that is his temporary residence till the plague event in Abresi is concluded.

The Royal Keep atop the central hill in Abresi is still very much the seat of our government and adressing letters in the way you did is perfectly fine Kat.

Well see to it that this letter reaches the King.

  3. ((The warclaim date will not be changed because about 3 people can't make it. Wars have always been on Sunday. If we alter the date, people would not be expecting it and even more people would not be able to make it. Im sorry if you can't make it but if the leader of Ambriel can't make it then we may need to discuss, But as far as Im aware knox is not changing the war date))

*Bajko walks into his armoury, loading up his arrows and bows onto a cart as he pulls it onto a near by Oren boat and sets sail to Ambriel along with other strelts*

((Would point out Nathan is in no way 'in the know' on what Knox, or anyone else in the government, is up to.

You would do well to stop posting in the way that you do Nathan, you seem to cause unrest with it, which is completely unneeded.

If things need to be discussed, we shall contact Knox. Kindly ignore Nathan's posts in all of this.))

  4. *in his bed, Joseph Lane sits, propped up against the wall with a few pillows.*

"Drink this, it will help with the nausea.." - Abner says, while handing Joseph and small cup of strong-smelling brew.

Gulping it down, Joseph looks slightly less haggard for a moment, before erupting in violent bouts of coughing.

Steadying himself, one hand on his chest, the other clenching a pillow behind him, he pauzes a moment before speaking.

    "Send them in."

*The group of petitioners is brought into the room, where they form a loose group around Joseph's sickbed.*

Joseph Lane gives them all a nod in greeting, politely taking note of the familiar faces in the group.

In his hands, he is holding the petition that was sent to him.

A moment of silence passes, before Joseph adresses the group.

    "Gentlemen." - he begins.

"You have chosen to petition the city of Abresi for the construction of a Church, to meet with your expectations of what a Church in the capitol of our Kingdom should live up to."

"Let me begin by stating my approval for your chosen method of communication in this matter."

"In the past, many people have tried to individually convince my person that such a project was needed, indeed wanted, by a large number of people. Never before has any of them been successful in that endeavor, for multiple reasons."

"You, are the first group that surpasses my expectations and actually goes through the proper channels to get matters sorted out to suit your interests. For this alone, I applaud you all."

Joseph pauzes a moment, to let his words sink in.

"Now, you may not have been aware of this.. and it unfortunately speaks volumes about the amount of communication within the Church as an organisation.. but there is already a plan in place, to match your exact needs, almost to the letter."

Joseph taps the document in his hand to underline his point.

He then takes a moment, holding up his hand in apology, as he has another coughing fit.

    Recovering, he continues.

"The late High Pontiff Lucien II made it a prime point in his agenda to argue with my person on numerous occasions about this very topic. Time and again, I have denied his request, based on the fact that I saw no effort by the Church to use the tools given to them."

"That being, the Chapel in the Royal Keep."

"This Chapel was constructed in the Keep to show the unity between Faith and Government. The intertwining nature of our how the guiding principles of the Creator to this day dominate our Holy Kingdom, as a shining beacon to us all."

"Alas, this notion did not seem to stick.. and little to no priestly activity took place in the Chapel."

As one of the members of the group opens his mouth to speak, Joseph chooses to hold up his hand again and cough violently.

The person closes his mouth, choosing to wait for Joseph to speak again.

Looking directly to the man and giving him a small nod, Joseph continues.

"Many reasons were given for this. The validity of those claims, such as poor accessibility and whatnot.. are not on the table for discussion today. Suffice it to say I chose to continuously reject the High Pontiff, based on what I saw as an inability to work with the tools that were given to him, in an effort to prove himself and his Clergy worthy of more."

One of the men in the group takes in a sharp breath, clearly taking offence at the notion that the Clergy needs to 'prove' themselves.

Joseph gives the man a stern look.

"We are all of us men. None of us are above the notion that our actions determine what we are worth."

"Strong, solid leadership is given in many places without the Holy Kingdom of Oren, we should all stand tall and proud at what has been achieved by many among us."

"But.. it must never be used as an excuse to claim entitlement."

"In that light, I made a deal with Lucien II.. a deal that stands to this day."

The group looks on expectantly, some faces curious, others simply listening as closely as they can.

"The deal is as follows: 'Should I find the clergy as an organisation worthy of it, I shall personally give up the Town Hall in Abresi, to be converted into the new Church. I will pack up my own office, living quarters, the lot.. and move it into the space currently occupied by the Chapel in the Royal Keep, effectively trading spaces."

"Now.. you may wonder what criteria I have for finding the clergy.. 'worthy'.. of this."

A simple nod from Wilfriche Buron answers Joseph.

Joseph points to the calender on the wall of his quarters, detailing the events taking place within Oren currently.

"Soon, another Religious Festival is coming."

"My original deal with the High Pontiff was simple: 'Make the Festival a grand success, that I may hear the ringing sounds of merriment and public worship throughout the city.. and I shall deem you worthy."

"Sadly, the last Festival was less then successful.. and the next one is not scheduled for another half-year from now."

Small looks of uncertainty are displayed on some faces, while others share looks with friends within the group. They all look back to Joseph when he politely coughs to gather their attention again.

Joseph looks directly to Wilfriche Buron, then speaks.

"Clean out the infestation that plagues Abresi. I am convinced it is an unholy force at work, that seeks to undermine the very fabric of Oren's national pride, by attacking us at our very heart."

"Take to the sewers with an army, root out the infestation and purge it from the bowels of our Capitol."

"Do this.. and I shall personally see to a Church being built in place of the Town Hall, as well as a momument to commemorate this occasion."

  5. Church is going to be constructed in what used to be the town hall, just awaiting for the funding and build force to get to work. says King Heinrik,

    ((

    Knox is partly correct.

He is also partly incorrect, it is not quite /that/  simple.. there are no crews on standby and the above 'deal' has never been closed / acted upon. (not to mention that there is a bit more to that deal then a simple bit of permission)

First off, let me state that I applaud this initiative, as it is no secret I want "the church" to be a bigger thing (yet am a tad more strict in how I deem it worthy of anything like buildings/land.)

Id like to sit down with the figureheads of this initiative in roleplay, as that would be a ton of fun for all (provided our timezones match)

Second: In lieu of the above, when would you like my response to all this? When you collect a certain amount of signatures? If so, how long, if at all, should I wait?

    ))

  6. *Abresi seems less active these days. Only a low breeze rustles the streets, where the smell of burning sewage is faint, but ever-present.*

*Men and women can still be found in numbers in Abresi.. but they mostly keep indoors, venturing outside but briefly, their faces hidden in scarves and masks of all discriptions.*

*In his bed, Joseph Lane lies, a weakened husk of his former self. At his side, the Stewards debate among themselves, trying to keep the city functioning in between their attempts to decipher the addled ramblings of Joseph, who is delirious with fever.*

    ((OOC:

Need breeds opportunity, as they say.

For a long while now, the sewer-event has been taking place in Abresi. Suffice it to say some consider things to be drawn-out, it nevertheless provides the city with excellent roleplay. (One might even argue 'all of Oren', as some have been driven from the city, to find a new home away from the plague.)

Soon, this event will reach a conclusion, as one can tell from a couple of roleplay posts being made where certain people skilled in the arts of medicine are trying to doctor together a functioning counter to the ailments that sweep the city.

I, for one, would like to express my gratitude for the ET staff involved, as well as the players who are going along in all of this in such an excellent and fun manner, keep it up!

Personally, I am getting deeper and deeper involved with the planning and prebuilding of the human nation for 4.0, which unfortunately cuts deeply into the time I can spend on the live server.

While I am by no means 'gone', I do realize that this may hamper matters and leave people, especially new arrivals to the city, confused as to 'where the maer is at?! He is never online!'

To remedy this, I am placing Joseph in a state of bed-ridden illness, providing my Stewards with the opportunity to become a bit more independant and get some more first-hand experience in dealing with the city's needs and wants on a daily basis.

    What this means for you:

    • Joseph Lane is in bed, sick.

    • If you have a problem, contact a city Steward.

    • Dont forget, a lot of you contact me through the forums or Skype. You can do the same with the stewards. Forum pm's are your friend if we are not online.

    • You might still see me in-game every so often, but ill likely be wandering around, not being very usefull, as I have clearly left my bed without my doctor's approval.

Meanwhile, im going to crack on working on 4.0 for all of you.

    Cheers and keep having fun!

  7. *notices are scattered throughout Abresi*

    Citizens,

Today, we begin another collection week in our taxation cycle.

A number of small changes, as well as one large one, have been made recently.

Therefore, a few reminders are in order:

    Red wool in collection boxes:

Citizens that skipped the last collection week will find a block of red wool in their plot-box. This means they are expected to pay the taxes for both periods at the same time, as well as a fine of 50 minas (1 additional paper)

Please refer to the last Financial Report for more details on this:

    http://www.lordofthecraft.net/topic/100304-abresi-financial-overview/page-4#entry978995

Taxes lowered in the Reavir Overlook:

In a continued effort to promote cheap and decent housing for all, Maer Joseph Lane has seen fit to lower the taxes of each plot on the Reavir Overlook by 50 minas (1paper). Prices for plots in this road now begin at the meager sum of 50 minas, every second elven week.

    2014-02-03_185148_zps42d668f5.png

    Word of welcome:

The last two elven weeks have seen a stirling effort by the Stewarding team to sort out a record number of people with new plots in the city. As a result, we can welcome many a fresh new face to our city! Be sure to visit your new neighbors if you gained them, perhaps they will join you for a drink in the Tavern?

    Regards,

    Joseph Lane

    Maer of Abresi

  8. In his office, the top of his desk stacked with loosely-organized piles of paperwork, Joseph Lane sits.

Reviewing the various reports that filter in, then putting them next to some of the older notices on the diplomatic correspondence between Oren and Urguan.

Joseph Lane raises an eyebrow.. Then frowns.

"I wonder if most of the louder voices truly understand the process that is diplomacy."

"Do they understand that it is a slow back-and-forth process to begin with... And that it involves both sides essentially haggling, much like shopping on the market?"

"All this shouting about how outrageous and warmongering some demands are.. A bit silly. So quick to anger. So quick to dismiss the entire diplomatic process."

"From most humans, one might actually expect asmuch, short-lived and passionate as we are.. But to see the same behavior among the dwarves.."

"Perhaps these negotiatons require some more mediation."

  10. Abresi Financial Status

    Week 13-14 (13th Jan - 26th Jan)

The seventh period has passed, as we trundle on steadily!

So, second period with an active taxation system, the obvious first question is: “How is it working out so far?”.

The answer is “mixed, but overall as well as can be expected.”

(For a quick recap on how the taxation works, give this thread a look: http://www.lordofthecraft.net/topic/104210-guide-taxation-in-abresi/)

Obviously, this needs a bit more of a detailed explanation.. and if you want to skip to that, simply scroll down to the bit with the actual numbers. As for this intro, we shall move on with what is currently top of the local news.

First up this period is the transfer of the Captaincy of the King's Watch to (now) Captain Branaford Fairheart (TNTlover12345), following Firestar25's resignation.

With stunning speed, Branaford has managed to boost numbers, as well as overall activity of the guardforce, while also implementing a system whereby guards now keep track of their own activity through journals (in-game written books they keep updated), meaning the actual activity-tracking takes place in-game, eliminating much of the 'offline-hassle' for regular guards, who now spend more time playing the game.

For more information on the guardforce, give them a look in this thread: http://www.lordofthecraft.net/topic/104215-the-kings-watch-of-abresi/

    2014-01-30_002734_zps5570e071.png

Secondly, we have a new city Steward in the form of Banok Grey (ThatPyrodude)

If you need a plot in the city and either myself or xXBegginBobXx is not online, find this latest addition to our team and get yourself sorted out!

While adding one Steward goes a long way towards getting a full coverage going again, I wouldnt mind another applicatant or two stepping up with interest. As such, prospective candidates are encouraged to contact Joseph Lane (Senda). A forum pm would be best, but other means of introducing yourself are of course fine as well.

Lastly, with the completed construction of a Library and Map Room underneath the Royal Keep (open to all), Sofetios, known from his work in the local bookstore, stepped up to run the Abresi School.

Suffice to say that the sole effort of this new schooling system is to provide an assortment of classes taking place along all timezones. The city will provide a budget from which the teachers and assorted materials needed can be paid, while all management is placed in the hands of Sofetios.

For more information, give them a look in this thread:

    http://www.lordofthecraft.net/topic/105453-the-school-of-abresi-currently-in-search-of-teachers-and-students/

    2014-01-30_004553_zpsaae5db79.png

So, that settles the introductory stuff, let us have a look at some numbers:

    Income:

    Plot taxation:

    Total tax income: 5200

    Surplus from last period: -7680

    Expenditure:

    Guard payments:

    TNTlover12345 – captain – 400

    Ventios – lieutenant – 300

    Beast720 – watchman – 200 + 600 (bonus)

    GoogleSearch – watchman – 200 + 300 (bonus)

    Xemnas – watchman 200 + 100 (bonus)

(note on guard payments: Any guard below the rank of lieutenant is liable for an activity-based bonus to their standard pay. 1000 minas is devided between first, second and third most active guardsman, based on activity as tracked in their journals. Job well done!)

    Total guard payments: 2300

    Abresi School Budget: 1500

    Total expenditure: 3800

    Final tally: – 6280 minas

Slowly working towards greener numbers. Of course, the overall goal is not neccesarily to run green.. rather to use what cash we levy in tax to promote fun activities. As such, we now also pay for the Abresi School, whose funding is used by Sofetios to pay for teachers and assorted teaching materials. Next period, you can expect more payments going out for a couple of other events we have lined up besides 'just this'. Still, if we continue on this track, it wont be too long till we make back the losses we suffered during the 'no-tax' period.

    Another note on taxation:

With the second period (and its taxes) getting paid and sorted, it is about time we implemented some sort of streamlined system for keeping track of offenders (who do not pay their tax), other then simply evicting them.

Truthfully, a full weeks notice (in-between weeks), followed by an entire week to pay one's taxes ought to be more then enough.. but things can happen.. and it is admittedly a bit of a hassle to evict plots every second week. (It actually takes quite a bit of work behind the scenes to evict someone and get it all sorted out.)

In this light, we are making it more obvious when someone has not paid their taxes and how the process of 'fines' and 'evictions' will now work.

    Offense #1: A fine of 50 minas.

The first time someone does not pay their taxes, we take note (as we check the boxes in the tax office.) If we find someone lives in a plot and has not paid the rent, a block of red wool will be put into the chest associated with the plot.

This block of red wool means the following: "You have failed to pay rent on time. Next period, you are required to pay the normal rent, as well as the rent you are still due from the previous period. On top of this, another (1) paper is required, as a fine.

Example: A plot is 150 minas in rent. (3 papers). A person neglects to pay his/her rent and finds a block of red wool in their chest.

Next taxation period, they are required to pay the normal rent (150/3 papers), plut the due rent from last period (another 150/3 papers), as well as a 50 minas fine, in the form of 1 additional paper.. for a grand total of 7 papers.

    Offense #2: Eviction.

If the following taxation period comes along and we find the box empty, but with a block of red wool inside.. this meaning the person responsible for the plot has failed to pay taxes for the second time in a row.. they face immediate eviction.

    Simple, to the point.

Let this serve as a reminder - we are not in this to bleed people dry of minas. We are here to run a stable finanacial system that work to the benefit of the city as a whole.

Having said that, it is the resonsibility of the citizens to stay on top of current events, up to and including the taxation periods, which are clearly marked in both the Taxation Office, as well as the Visitor Centre.

If you ever find yourself with any questions about this, just contact the Maer or one of the Stewards. We are here to help.

    Closing remarks:

So, the balance slowly returns to a healthy green colour, but we are not there quite yet. Thankfully, given time, it will all level out and we can focus on spending gleefully, with wanton regard, to promote all sorts of fun events on a bigger scale.

This period has been a bit 'all over the place', looking back at it.

It saw my newly instated guardforce captain getting into trouble, then resigning. It saw a new captain taking the reigns.. and immediately being forced to deal with frequent raids from all sides.

It saw a lot of activity, some succesful events.. and some that were less then that.

Overall, 'same old, same old' Abresi. We get rocked back and forth.. but we trundle on.

*raises glass. “Here is to another financial report.. and another year gone by.”

Oh.. and while we are on the topic of drinks, be sure to attend the upcoming Pub Quiz in the Silver Maiden's Tavern in Abresi!

    Read all about it here:

    http://www.lordofthecraft.net/topic/105505-abresi-tavern-pub-quiz-at-the-silver-maiden/

    <tiny disclaimer>

No shop spotlight this time, it will return next report. (Got something special planned)

  11. From his time as City Steward, I can say the following about BegginBob:

    - Solid person to work with. Is consistent in his activity.

    - Picks up on his mistakes. Actually learns, paying attention to the feedback he is given.

    - Can communicate without coming across as a drooling buffoon.

I would say BegginBob is ready to try out as Trial GM.

Whether or not he will succeed.. well, that will be a whole different adventure. One I look forward to hearing about.

  12. Abresi Financial Status

    Week 11-12 (30th Dec - 12th Jan)

The sixth period has passed.. and this report got delayed by a few days, but lots has happened, so let us dive right in!

Bombshell-worthy news to start with, as we look back on the re-implementation of the Taxation system.

Even though the voting plugin was not operational, the shop plugin was and in the interest of activity and cashflow for fun events, we went ahead and started taxing again, with interesting results.

Getting the whole system adapted to the new way shops work now took a while, but we wiggled our way around the technical side of things and succesfully implemented a new automated collection system that takes full advantage of the new shop features, while still keeping to the list of perks that we have come to expect from Abresi taxation: Stress-free, simple and decent taxation.

A small notice needs to be given here: This one time, we allowed a grace period of 3 extra days for people to pay their taxes, as many needed 'reminding' that we started taxation again. Now that everyone knows (those that still dont got evicted), there will be no more grace periods.

It is up to each and every individual to keep track of time and collection periods. To stay up to date, simply take a walk over to the Taxation Office or the Visitor Centre, where the current or upcoming collection week details are posted.

For more information on the new system, give this thread a look: http://www.lordofthecraft.net/topic/104210-guide-taxation-in-abresi/

Hot on the heels of the new taxation system, came the revival of the Abresi city guard, or “The King's Watch”, as we know them.

Besides being the guards for the city and it's inhabitants, we should not forget that Abresi plays host to the Royal Keep, and within it, the King and his family. Essentially, this makes the guardforce the peronal bodyguard for the King as well, hence the name.

Theobalt Rolnik (firestar25), one of Abresi's Stewards, has taken up the role of Captain of this group. While he remains a Steward officially, he will no doubt have far less time for stewarding then he used to. Nevertheless, we wish his the very best of luck, as he will be responsible for keeping our city free of crime.

Give them a look in this thread: http://www.lordofthecraft.net/topic/104215-the-kings-watch-of-abresi/

Sadly, while firestar is taking up new roles to add to his stewarding ones, we are also losing a full steward this period.

Darius Mercer (Hobolympic) has stepped down from his roles and shall now spend more time wandering the lands, while he sorts out a ton of stuff outside of the game.

We all wish his the very best and are thankful that he will never fully leave us, as we still talk to him on a near-daily basis. (one of us.. one of us..)

With luck, he will return in the future.

With one steward leaving and another being very busy, this obviously opens up some spots for new Stewards. Prospective candidates are encouraged to contact Joseph Lane (Senda). A forum pm would be best, but other means of introducing yourself are of course fine as well.

So, that settles the introductory stuff, let us have a look at some numbers:

    Income:

    Plot taxation:

    Total tax income: 8100

    Surplus from last period: -13030

    Expenditure:

    Guard payments:

    Firestar25 – captain – 500

    Ventios – watchman – 250 + 1000 (bonus)

    Beast720 – watchman – 250

    bluesmith59 – watchman – 250

    krazykidman – watchman 250

    Minimanthefirst – watchman – 250

(note on guard payments: Ventios recieved the “most active guardsman”-award, giving out each period. This earned him a tidy 1000 minas bonus to his standard pay. Job well done!)

    Total guard payments: 2750

    Final tally: -7680 minas

Numbers still in the red, but not taking into account the deficit of last period, we turned a profit of 5350 minas. Given those numbers, we will be back in the green within 2 periods, though it may take up to 3 or 4, as we intend to spend quite a bit of money on the upcoming events, to organize prizes and the like.

    Closing remarks:

So, the balance slowly returns to a healthy green colour, but we are not there quite yet. Thankfully, given time, it will all level out and we can focus on spending gleefully, with wanton regard, to promote all sorts of fun events on a bigger scale.

Speaking of events, there is a rather big ongoing one still running in our city: The Sewer Event.

Essentially, all you need to know is that our city smells bad. Or rather, the sewers do if set on fire. Groups of adventurers are encouraged to go down into the sewers to cleanse them.. and keep an eye out for a grand finale in this regard. Obviously, a problem this great can only be solved with the cunning application of large amounts of brute force.

Give the event a read in this forum thread: http://www.lordofthecraft.net/topic/104062-abresi-a-hive-of-sewage-and-smelliness/

Apart from this, Oren, as a nation, is now a bit more organised, event-wise. As Lord Steward, Joseph Lane has begun coördinating the various towns and forts within the Kingdom to all periodically host events, ensuring there is something fun going on every weekend.

Get aquinted with the entire Kingdom, recieve an excellent excuse to visit that place you have never seen before, or just hop over for grand prizes, the Oren monthly events have something interesting for everyone!

Give them a look in this thread: http://www.lordofthecraft.net/topic/103608-event-calender-events-in-the-kingdom-of-oren/

Adept readers will notice that the upcoming weekend plays host to a Tournament in Cavan, while the week after sees a Religious festival in Abresi, celebrating Saint Thomas.

If you want to stay up to date with current events, simple look at the notice pillar in the market square, which will always have an up-to-date listing of all events!

Next up: The Abresi Tavern is under new management!

Now renamed to “The Silver Maiden”, it is under the care of Christion de Silvarios (Semperosa)

Quickly establishing himself and his crew, the Tavern has been doing very well, with many evenings seeying a packed interior, full of drinking, talking and sometimes brawling folk.

We look forward to the Tavern playing host to the Pub Quiz again, come next month. Keep an eye out for that!

Last, but not least, as two small shops in the city that deserve a special mention.

For far too long, the supply of food to the city has been an arduous and complicated affair. Many things have been tried, few worked and generally speaking, the city has been facing starvation (nearly), which is bad. Much has been done in an attempt to promote/deal with this.. and at long last, we have a permanent solution:

Both Ager and Shattenburg have set up automated shops (with cunning npc's to advertise the respective locations) to provide a stable supply of food to the city. Should you find yourself in need of sustenance and none of the local foodshops are open.. look no further then this pairing of excellence!

    Shop Spotlight:

This week, the spotlight falls upon Sofetios' bookstore.

An excellent store in of itself, Sofetios excells and makes the cut for his drive to go beyond “the basic shop”-idea. He organizes events, drawing crowds and generally improving the atmosphere in the city.

A job well done and may much merchantile success befall you in the future!

Keep in mind: The final end-time for the tax-payments is:

januari 16th (tomorrow, thursday) at 1pm est / 6pm gmt.

  14. ((Hey, still banned, and I can't get on to pay taxes... Please don't evict me yet? I'll need to clear out my stuff, being unbanned on the 28th. House is plot 10 on summit boulevard, I believe. The sign at the front reads Leon's Manor.))

Get a friend to pay them for you.

Anyone can pay taxes for any plot in the city, keep in mind that the system has been designed specifically to be able to cope with situations exactly like the above. Simply have someone else buy the appropriate amount of tax papers and have them deposit those in the chest linked to your plot.

    Silus grumbles.

"Last time I tried to pay the place was locked up. And how much do I need to pay for Merchant Lane 12 anyway?"

When did you find the place locked up?

Also, if you attempted to pay and found yourself blocked from doing so, why did you not contact an official about it?

Lastly, the information and specifics on taxation for any plot can be found in the basement of the Taxation Office, where chest linked to your plot will list the taxation amount, as well as the corresponding number of tax papers that it requires you to deposit.
