Im applying knowledge to my character that he could not have known. In your own Words, define what the act of Power-Gaming is: Power gaming is doing actions not possible within a roleplaying experiance. This would include fighting on after taking 15 arrows to the chest, being tied up and guarded by 5 men and somehow escaping, that sort of thing. You offer no way for the other side to win or even make progress towards their goal, so you will always win. This breaks the spirit of role-playing. His father was a master smith, and Balin wanted to be just like his father, so since the day he could pick up a hammer and tongs, he was in the forge smashing things. Then one day, reality hit. Hrothgar Stoneskin had lived his days, and passed away when Balin was young. Devistated, Balin promised himself to become as great as his father in the forge. Before he could, however, an orc raiding party happened upon his town. Unable to warn his family, Balin picked up an axe he was forging, still red-hot, and ran to his house. By the time he got there, the orcs had left, and his house was aflame. There was one orc standing outside however. Overtaken with anger, Balin sunk his axe into the orc’s back. The orc wailed in pain, the blade was still red-hot from the forge. It finally fell dead, and Balin stood over his kill. Fortunately, his family had survived the attack. Eventually, the town settled back into its routine, but Balin was troubled. He realized what a joy it was to be in battle. Open-Response-Questions Whilst traveling from the Cloud Temple you see a small halfling, being harassed by two armed warriors. They appear to be trying to steal money from him, how does your character respond? “Oi!” Balin shouted at the two lightly armored men. They both had leather studded armor, with rusty iron longswords. They turned and smirked at him, he was a good foot shorter than them. “Quick picken’ on my friend there!” He yelled, attracting the attention of the nearby guards. The two men looked at the guards, then to each-other, and bolted, leaving the halfling behind. When the halfling just looked at him, Balin simply said “Yer’ Welcome” and walked away. Your character wanders into Alras, and comes across a small stall, behind which a well dressed man is standing. He’s offering various wares, the merchant turns to you and says in a posh accent " 'ello there, what can I do you for today?". What is your character response? Balin had never been to Alras before, so he was taken by surprise when the shop-keeper openly confronted him. “’ello there, what can I do for you today?” The posh looking man said. “Well, have you got any food? I’m starvin’ ” Balin replied, eyeing the wares in the man’s stalls. The merchant pulled out some legs of lamb, and Balin offered him a fair price. Satisfied with his purchase, Balin wandered off to find a smithy. He had dispatched a few brigands on his way to Alras, and he wanted to get it sharpened again, the bandit’s armor put a dent in the blade… Whilst wandering in the wilds, your character comes across a small hut, which looks abandoned. Inside it you see a chest containing a few iron bars, and a golden sword. How would your character respond?: Balin was stumbling through the woods one day when he came upon a small hut, rotting in the woods. The thatch was decaying, and the walls falling in, it was obvious it was abandoned. Curious as he was, Balin walked through what he thought was the front door, it was hard to tell with all the holes in it. He was surprised to see that there was a heavy oaken chest inside. He was even more surprised to find a golden sword and a few iron bars! He decided to take the iron bars, but leave the golden sword. He knew that gold didn’t hold an edge well, and it would only slow him down out in the woods. So, he took his iron bars, and left the decaying hut in the forest. Hungry and lost in the wilderness, you stumble across a small trading camp nestled among the forest, they greet you in the common tongue, how do you respond?: Balin was stumbling through the woods, blind and hungry. He thought that after that decaying hut he had just left, he’d find a settlement, and he was right. The camp was small, but it was a camp nonetheless. To his dismay, it was inhabited by men. Preparing himself for their taunting words, he walked into the camp. He was surprised, however, to find the men with open arms, welcoming him to their camp. “Have ye got any food, perchance? I just stumbled through the woods for a good while, and I’m hungry as hell”. The men offered him some deer venison, and he wolfed it down, hungrily. To repay them in gratitude, he gave their leader one of his iron bars he had picked up from the decaying hut. They were grateful, and Balin left with more food than he thought he could carry, thanks to the men in the camp. You hear word that bandits occupy the road outside the town in which you have been staying. The town guard have gathered, and are asking for assistance to help eliminate them. The leader of the party is offering a reward for any who offer their support. How does your character act on this information?: Balin was sleeping when the guardsmen came running through the streets, yelling. Still groggy from sleep, Balin pulled on his boots and ran outside to see what all the fuss was about. “I need any able bodied man to join us at the front gate! Bandits hold our roads hostage, and we mean to retake them!” the Guardsmen were shouting, “Rewards for those who join us!”. Thinking of the food he could buy with his hefty reward, Balin ran back inside the tavern and put his armor on. The guards were just leaving when Balin caught up to them. They traveled quietly to the bandit’s camp, all of whom were finishing their dinners. The guardsmen gather around the camp, and charged the un-prepared brigands. Balin managed to bring his axe down upon one of the bandits before he could move from his supper. The fight was short, the guardsmen outnumbered the bandits three to one. Balin, happy with his work, looted the bandit leader’s tent, and returned to the tavern for some warm mead. Anything else you would like to say?: I hope this one works…
