  1. Not sure. How are seasons explained? If Thanhium replaces cold months, what will become of the occasion of winter? Also, nothing stops the creation of northern and southern poles in the current world. The borders of the map do not display the end of the world, and there is supposed to be much beyond the borders of Athera.

The worlds and realms in LotC are flat. Surprise.

  2. Lord of the Craft often times parallels our own world, making it easy for roleplayers to entwine themselves in the stories they create. However, sometimes this idea of OOC realism goes too far, and we forget that the worlds we play in is a little more than a map with some fancy builds, and there is oftentimes method to the overall madness. By extension, this also means a lot of the real-world elements we rely on, and presume to be fact In-character, aren’t actually as factual as you would first assume.

So I've begun this little project to shed some light on the madness of our Lore, let us begin!

Welcome, to Lore of the Craft!

    Punny, right!?

Does LotC’s world have an equator, if not, why do we have snowy places?

Most would assume that the Realms the descendants have inhabited, poses the same imaginary, horizontal line which goes around Earth. This divides the world into two hemispheres, North and South, the further away you are from the equator, the colder it gets, similarly the closer the warmer. This is all fine and dandy, and makes sense logically in our own world, however as you have no doubt noticed, cold regions in LotC seem to be scattered, misplaced. North and South doesn’t dictate where the cold, or warm is, it’s seemingly random.

I’m sure many of you have heard of Thanhic ore, or Thanhium, a rare Dwarven material which serves largely in the construction of Ancient Dwarven machinery. Thanhium is largely useless unless refined, an art which has been nearly lost, it does however hold some interesting properties that are essential to this explanation. You see, Thanhium actually drains the heat from the air, noticeably cooling and freezing the surrounding area, specially in mass quantities and deposits.

So therein lies the answer, it’s not the equator or sun which defines where the cold is, it’s actually mass deposits of Thanhium in the ground. This also explain the cliche of Dwarves living in snowy mountains, as their Ancient ancestors started the trend to ensure they had a healthy supply of Thanhium at all times.

If you’re ever interested in the independant lore on Thanhium and Thanhic ore, I suggest reading up on it! Its applicable useage as mage-killing weaponry has yet to be noticed: https://www.lordofthecraft.net/topic/109124-the-dangers-of-thanhium/

I'll occasional update this with neat lore tidbits, I hope you like it!

  3. This was done on short notice and impulsively by two GMs out of the entire team. Ask a few GMs and maybe they'll say the same thing.

Don't try to spread misinformation. The entire team was aware of the VAT, and the entire team will be aware when and if it's removed. There is a process to these kinds of things, and you can wait until a decision is made.

The discussion we'll be having is in roughly 3 hours, and by then, I presume we'll have an answer. This isn't about ignoring the players, it's about making all the GMs aware of what's happening. We're a Team, and we're going to talk about this as a Team.

  4. So no doubt a lot of you have seen the recent list!

Edit by Kowaman: The list contained usernames that hackers will try to bruteforce (crack the password). If your account is migrated, you will not be at risk. So #1 concern should be to migrate your account if you haven't, and assure you have a secure password.

Welp, it's an unfortunate part of the internet, but tends to be those out seeking your information. For those of you unaware, there is a list of MC names (many of those being some of LotC players) which have been posted on some website, with the intent of being cracked, and hacked. I wouldn't be too alarmed, as this does happen from time to time. Also note, it was most likely done by someone random, who simply logged onto the server, and picked up the user names of those online.

So if you're on the list, and worried- or simply worried in general, I suggest changing your password. Always remember to have a long password, with a mixture of lowercase and upper case letters, with symbols and numbers. This will ensure the least possible chance of someone hacking your account.

    A good example is: r@eLp7aYeR7489

I hope this addresses some concerns!

Edit: I'm also unsure if I want to start linking the site, as I'm unsure if it's safe or not. I'm sure you can find it in the status updates, or a friend. I don't suggests going on the site, simply change your password for peace of mind.
