[Better Rp Today]: Pt. 1, Active Interaction
Force2Reckon replied to Nina's topic in Thales and the Fringe Roleplay Archive
I've done some of this ._. and I didn't even realize I was doing it, at least now I can watch out for it and correct myself, thanks! Nice guide by the way. -
Out-Of-Character Minecraft Account Name: Force2Reckon How old are you?: 19 Time-Zone/Country of Residence: USA/Eastern Time/-5 GMT Do you have a good grip on the English language/good grammar?: If I did not at least have a basic understanding of the English language and grammar I probably would not understand the questions... so that is a yes. :3 Small 2-3 Sentence Description of yourself: I'm 19 years old and attending college currently. I will be going into my second year and have been an active member of a Dungeons and Dragons group I met there. I am also a very excitable, fun and silly person! :D How much time could you be on the server weekly?: Depending on the time of the year anywhere from 2-6 hours, that's per day not weekly, :P woops. I will also be on depending on the quality of the RP on the server, no offense but I have yet to join a RP server where the players do it right. Although I spent an hour or two as a wandering soul and saw some very interesting roleplaying going on so I am hopeful! What do you know about Roleplaying? Give a definition of what it means to you: Roleplaying is the ability to express some of your inmost desires, or just to get away from things for awhile. For me it is also a testing ground of personalities, seeing how the player reacts to your character, not just how they make their character react, is always fun and interesting, I especially enjoy being morally questionable, although I have never played a "villain" persay. What experience have you had in Roleplaying, if any?: I have one year of experience in college in my Dungeons and Dragons group, and two years prior of High School Dungeons and Dragons, and yes there is a MAJOR difference, maturity wise, and meta-gaming wise. I have spent the last 4-5 years of my life playing "role-playing" maps in games, although not as good as a proper DnD group they still gave me a place to stretch my legs and get away from some of the competitive Min-Maxing of modern role-players. I also have a year of Drama, sort of like roleplaying. In your own Words, define what the act of Meta-Gaming is: Meta-gaming is irritating, frustrating, and sometimes unintentional. Meta-gaming is the act of using information that you, the player, knows but you, the character, does not to determine your characters actions. For example me and a group of friends are fighting a major encounter and the DM says OOC that there is a Necromancer sneaking up on us. If I or a member of our crew were to turn around and attack the Necromancer without a reason for knowing he was there, such as a successful listen check, THAT is meta-gaming. That was also my first meta-gaming accident :3. In your own Words, define what the act of Power-Emoting is: Power-emoting? I'm assuming you mean power-gaming which is the act of "forcing" another player, or DM/GM controlled NPC, to make an action, for example if I said I attacked the dragon and Malek (an NPC controlled by the DM) casts a fireball, that is power-gaming, I am forcing my characters personality, or my action, upon Malek. Another fun fact Power-gaming is also called God-gaming... Course you probably know that. What do you expect this server will be like?: What do I expect? I always expect the worst, I'm expecting trolls and failed rping everywhere, what I'm hoping for, and it seemed my hope is well founded, is a server in which I can RP with a serious and mature community that actually has some founded roleplaying knowledge and etiquette. What other server(s) have you played on and why did you leave them?: I've played on several servers, and like I said I have left them only if they were a fail, or I could not get into the world or lore of the world. The only server that I didn't want to leave got shut down because their players just... stopped playing, it was frustrating cause I liked that world. Have you read, understood, and agreed to the rules?: Chyessum. That is a yes by the way. Do you promise to abide by said rules, and laws? This includes the Server, Forum, and Teamspeak set Rules: Yes, I found the answer to my question in the Wiki :3 How did you hear about us?: Found you while looking for a PvP server for my brothers. Have you previously made an Application? If so could you link us to your last Application?: Nope, this is my first application to your world! In-Character: Character Name: Belian "The Shadow Fist" What Race are you? (You may only be Human, Orc, Elf or Dwarf!): Human What Sub-Race are you? (note, you aren’t required to have a sub-race): Northener, will make more sense. Biography (Please make this at least 2 paragraphs long. This must include the history of your character and his life as well as age, appearance and personality, etc.): Born only two decades ago Belian does not remember his family, his father was a soldier in the Renatus military, that was all he knew, his mother died during child birth and Belian was raised by his grandmother in Arethor. When Belian was only 8 years of age, a messenger informed his grandmother that his father had died in a Hanseti ambush, and although his grandmother took very good care of him, she did not instill the respect and obedience Belian needed to learn certain principles. During this year Belian lost many of his friends to the plague, luckily both he and his grandmother survived. Becoming a bit uncaring for anyone other than himself Belian learned to talk his way into, and out of, many situations, and how to acquire anything he desired. When Belian was only 14 his grandmother became very sick, and Belian began stealing to feed his grandmother, and himself. Belian had never been good at much, but after getting into a bar fight during the Festival of Ale, the one celebration he never misses, and being severely beaten by a much older and more experienced fighter Belian devoted himself to becoming stronger, so that nothing could ever hurt him again. Around the age of 18 Belian had earned a name for himself in the street fighter community, "The Shadow Fist". This name stemmed from Belians ability to hit a person, where he wanted, when he wanted, no matter how well they blocked. The name was solidified while, during a raid on a fighting ring, he landed a blow that onlookers claimed "went straight through the guards helmet". Though this was not the case Belian earned a vicious reputation for being a downright dirty and unbeatable brawler, and a terribly fun, and dangerous, drunk. After being arrested during the raid Belian was forced into the army, where he served for a year as an infantry, learning how to wield a blade with efficiency. Belian accomplished many great feats, including the single-handed, literally, takedown of a 10 man squad of well trained enemy troops who were attempting a raid on the war tent. His many eploits on the field have earned him anything he wishes from the powers that be, and he has chosen his freedom. Now, 20 years of age, a hardened soldier and brawler, Belian has set himself to wandering the world, exploring and, unintentionally, getting into trouble wherever he goes. Although Belian is a little shorter than your average human he is also stout, strong and agile. Many years of fighting, both in the ring and on the field, do not seem to have phased him, he is cheeky and fun and never seems to take anything seriously. With simply cut brown hair and a complexion that speaks of a life of adventure and fighting, he may seem all jolly, and may look a simple target, but be warned he is as deadly with his fists, as the most well trained knight is with a sword. Belian awakens in the Sanctuary of the Cloud Temple, rested and ready to begin his adventures. What are your Character's ambitions?: My character desires new things, wanting to discover new lands and locations, explore forgetten places and experience a fun and free life. What is your character’s favorite tool? (sword, pickaxe, shovel, etc): When necessary he enjoys the use of a hoe, being lightweight and with a sharp point on one end, it makes a great climbing tool, a simple pick, and even a useful weapon, a pickaxe and sword follow close behind, only because of their much more significant weight and less usability. But Belian does not generally use tools, only when the job cannot be done with his own two hands, because the greatest tool of all is your own body. What is one of your Character's most skilled talents? Belian is a brawler, a powerful hand to hand, well anything, fighter. He is talented at hitting people in the weak points of their blocks and causing significant damage even to heavily armored opponents with each blow. A screenshot of your skin (must be in proper format, if you do not know how to acquire one, copy and paste this link into your browser: ( http://tinyurl.com/Lotcscreenshot ): Here are a few cause I couldn't decide what looked good, I also hand made the oasis you see him standing in, just one of the many places he's explored? :3 Other Information about your Character: Open-Response-Questions Each and every question must be answered with a minimum of a single full paragraph and entirely in RP. ((NOTE: I make a few assumptions in each of the following roleplays, such as the existence of a supporting archer for the bandits.)) Whilst traveling from the Cloud Temple you see a small halfling, being harassed by two armed warriors. They appear to be trying to steal money from him, how does your character respond? Upon seeing the warriors bullying the halfling Belian stops and surveys the surrounding area, checking for others in the bushes and trees, noting a slight glimmer off to the left of the path Belian slips off the path and behind what appears to be an archer, dressed similarly to the bandits on the road. Attempting to subdue the archer Belian deals him a quick blow over the head. The archer screams out in pain, whirling around to react and Belian places a firm blow in his face rendering him unconscious. The two men on the road shout out and begin approaching Belian's position, seeing his opportunity the Halfling runs off down the road. Belian quickly grabs the archers bow and fires at the two warriors, who begin to charge moving back and forth across the road. Belian drops the bow and ready's his fists for a fight. The first warrior arrives striking with a jab at Belian's stomach, Belian rolls around the warrior, landing a heavy blow with his elbow to his opponents forehead, staggering him. Wasting no time Belian grabs his opponents sword and quickly parries the incoming blows from the second opponent. Unfortunately Belian is disarmed, but taking the opportunity left by his opponents now precarious balance Belian lands a series of quick blows dropping his opponent to the ground, still concious but gasping for air. Belian whirls around landing a strong kick into the first warriors face before he can recover and knocks him unconscious. Grabbing his opponents swords and throwing them into the underbrush Belian says "Next time, pick on someone your own size" and walks off down the road. Your character wanders into Alras, and comes across a small stall, behind which a well dressed man is standing. He’s offering various wares, the merchant turns to you and says in a posh accent " 'ello there, what can I do you for today?" What is your character response? Belian looks questioningly at the strange man and asks in a mocking accent "Well ello there to you! Names Belial! Demon of Lies, you know, I was just wonderin' where I could be restin' up tonigh', lookin' for a place with a good meal too! You know, good ripe souls, thieves an' such." The shopkeeper eyes Belian strangely and Belian begins to laugh, his bellowing echoes out and he returns to his normal voice "I'm joking around *elongated for affect* stall-wart fellow! The names Belian, I am however looking for a good place to rest my head, with a good meal and possibly some more than friendly wenches, mind pointing me in the right direction?" After being given the directions Belian thanks the shopkeep and walks off, looking forward to the night ahead. Whilst wandering in the wilds, your character comes across a small hut, which looks abandoned. Inside it you see a chest containing a few iron bars, and a golden sword. How would your character respond?: Seeing the seemingly abandoned chest Belian rushes forward, ready to grab all the loot his pack can hold, upon reaching the chest Belian is pulled up in a rope trap. Frustrated for falling for such an obvious trap Belian reaches up onto his ankle strap and pulls out a small skinning knife. Using the knife to cut the rope took a minute or two, and recovering from the drop onto a solid floor, something Belian again cursed himself for not thinking about beforehand, took even longer, by the time Belian stood up there was an Elf standing in a tree not too far away with a bow pointed at him. Releasing a shaft the Elf pierced Belian in his shoulder, this Elf was obviously ready to kill. Belian leaps down, taking cover behind one of the still standing walls. Belian waits, and sure enough the young elf, inexperienced in combat, begins to climb down from his tree, taking the opportunity, Belian grabs one of the heavier stones in his pack and lobs it at the Elf. Crashing on the Elf's hand he collapses onto the ground as Belian runs forward and rapidly breaks the Elf's other hand and his knee's. Belian than takes the Elf's pack and bow and arrows, spits on the Elf says "Teach you to attack an unarmed opponent" and walks off arrow in his shoulder, leaving the Elf to die, slow and alone. Hungry and lost in the wilderness, you stumble across a small trading camp nestled among the forest, they greet you in the common tongue, how do you respond? Belian speaks up, loud though he is hungry, "Ah! Fellow travelers it is good to see you! I must apologize, but I am famished! Would you be able to spare a bite to eat?" after working out a deal to protect the caravan for a few days for food and a bed Belian thanks the warden and wanders to the campfire, grabbing a bowl of soup and a substantial chunk of bread he begins consuming his soup, slowly and carefully, dipping the bread into it, to help fill his stomach. After being approached by one of the guardsmen about his travels Belian launches into an exaggerated tale of his last adventure, into a tomb covered in large spiders, and the risen dead of the fallen monarch, who was obviously not happy at the intruders presence. Than, pulling out a trinket he had found in that tomb he exclaims about it's magical powers of protection and "sadly" parts with it for a small pittance of coin from one of the guards. After travelling with the band for a few days Belian grabs a weeks worth of rations from the food and "relieves" one of the guards, Belian than wanders off into the woods, never to be seen by these men again, full in both stomach and coin pouch. You hear word that bandits occupy the road outside the town in which you have been staying. The town guard have gathered, and are asking for assistance to help eliminate them. The leader of the party is offering a reward for any who offer their support. How does your character act on this information?: Upon the word "reward" Belian's interest peaks up, he approaches the leader of the party and says "I would gladly help! Although as an adventurer like yourself I would hope for a little more of a reward as I make my living only by my ability to help others". After talking with the leader for awhile Belian talks himself into a small grab of the loot in the bandits possession as well as a bet with the parties barbarian on who can kill the most bandits. After the raid they tallied up the total and Belian won his 20 coins by one kill. Having packed his bag with some of the smaller valuables in the bandit camp during the fight he took his share of the loot from the party, and enjoyed a feast and celebration with them back in the tavern. Anything else you would like to say?: As my character tends to take advantage of the situation (Neutral Evil, he cares more for himself than whatever is right or wrong) would I be needing a villainy permit? I looked at them and discovered that you need to play for one "elven" week to sign up for one, I know the timing, cause I found the Wiki post :P, also if you could give me your opinions on my background and some of my other stuff, even if I'm accepted, I still like to know other players opinions on my RPing, and I still have a LOT to learn! Thanks! I hope to beat some of you guys to a pulp with Belian soon!... Err I mean roleplay, ya, go with that!
