Definitions
In your own words, define what the act of roleplaying is: Roleplaying is when a person goes beyond the boundaries or limitations of himself, such as time or age, to fulfill a role as a character which would normally be impossible to assume. This is almost always in hand with fantasy; people create elaborate personas of characters they wish to represent.
In your own words, define what the act of meta-gaming is: Metagaming is a person acting on information that is outside of their character's possible knowledge.
In your own words, define what the act of power-emoting is: Power emoting is making an action on another character which they are unable to act upon; most commonly seen in dialogue such as "Thorin kills Niernen", or something to the same effect.
In-Character Details
Character Name: Peracil Antestus
Character Race: Human
Character biography - Make this at least 2 paragraphs long, which must explain your character’s history, appearance, personality, age and any other details you deem necessary: Peracil Antestus, bastard son of a drunken father and a dying mother, has never experienced anything but hardship. An imposing figure of a man, he stands tall at 6'1. His hair is of a rich chestnut brown, and his eyes are deep blue. His clothing gives away his modest upbringings, as he dresses in neutral brown workman's clothing. He is most commonly characterized by his competitive demeanor which drives him to achieve his goals to whatever end.
Peracil Antestus was born in poverty to unmarried parents; his father a drunk, and his mother slowly dying of an unknown disease. He was raised in a hostile environment, with his father and mother constantly fighting over every problem and trying to blame it on the other; the chief of these squabbles being over money, his mother would claim that his father drinks their money away while his father claims that his mother is draining their money through her medical pursuits. He became accustomed to such petty squabbles quickly, and through some miracle he was born with a natural sense of adaptivity.
Peracil experienced much of the same troubles until he came to the age of fourteen. It was then that he realized that if he did not support his parents and himself, they would die. Peracil's adaptivity came to light one fateful day when he strolled through the market trying to find any job he could to feed himself. Fate would have it that he came upon the stall of a certain Cotrel Lebascus, an opulent merchant who had no heir. When Peracil asked Cortrel if he had any work he could help with, Cortrel became the first person to pick up on his ambition. As Lebascus lacked an heir to his estate, he immediately became enthralled with this poor young man in whom he saw so much of himself. Cortrel put Peracil to work immediately with a test to examine his problem solving abilities. This test was simple: Cortrel has noticed that he has been losing revenue somewhere along the line. Peracil is to find out where he has been losing money and how the problem could be corrected. If he could solve the problem, Peracil would become heir to the estate of Lebascus.
Immediately Peracil began his investigation at the ground level by reviewing Lebascus's business ledgers. (He had been taught basic reading and mathematics at a local church at a young age.) There he found that Lebascus had kept meticulous records of every transaction he had made. As Peracil read on in the ledgers he began to notice a pattern: every 230 days, his average income would drop by a rate of less than one percent. Not content with only finding the problem, Peracil set out to solve the problem itself by investigation of the source of these income inconsistencies.
As Lebascus's business revolved around the trade of imported gold and gold products which were imported at a low price from a foreign mining operation and gold product refinery, much of his trade was conducted overseas. Peracil had a sudden realization on his fifteenth birthday after almost three months of no new information that the business meetings were held every 115 days to arrange the agreements for the proceeding period. It occurred to him that unbeknownst to Lebascus, his foreign operations were slowly sucking him dry by increasing the price of their products by minimal amounts every period of time. After twenty years, this small percentage increase had increased massively to over 50 percent inflation. He immediately rushed to Lebascus and confided in him his findings.
Lebascus was so impressed by Peracil's ambition and problem solving that he immediately named him heir to the estate of Lebascus as well as his apprentice in the way of merchanthood. Peracil excelled under Lebascus and his entrepreneurialship would flourish for the next six years of his life. Peracil became learned in the matters of foreign affairs, of market competition, and of monopoly. Especially interesting to Peracil was the concept of Monopoly: the idea that a man could become immensely powerful if he were to destroy his opposition. He soon implemented this in the silver trading industry; Lebascus Gold Products was now not only the premier gold company, but the only gold company in the city.
However, even though Peracil had rapidly ascended the ranks of society, he had forgotten his poor mother in his thirst for power; she died of what later would be discerned as longterm complications from his birth. Peracil became distressed and turned to Lebascus, his surrogate father, for support. Little did Peracil know fate had fixated on Peracil and soon Lebascus fell mortally ill.
Lebascus died in his home with Peracil by his side. Suddenly Peracil realizes that the entirety of Lebascus's business and estate now belonged to him. He vowed to use his newfound opulence to further his dream of a total monopoly, as he had yet to demand a large presence in global affairs. He swore to change this and has forever since been working towards his dream of enterprise.
Open-Response-Questions
Each question here must be answered with a minimum of one full paragraph, and detail the scene you are given in the way it would happen in roleplay. These questions should be answered in first person. Be detailed, not short.
Upon entering the Mighty Human City of Arethor, you come across a shop-keeper calling out to sell his wares to passers-by. The shopkeeper is not a Human, he is a poor dwarf looking to make a living in a new city. What is your response?
Peracil approaches the dwarf with a glint in his eye, for he knew that this Dwarf was a gold dealer by trade. Peracil could not risk allowing foreign competition to interfere with his plans for monopoly. "You there, Dwarf. I believe you're in the gold business and I would like to make you an offer," said Peracil. "Well, business hasn't been goin' so great.. What might this offer be?" inquired the Dwarf. "I am prepared to offer you 500 minas to cease your business here," asserted Peracil. The dwarf eyed PEracil's heavy money bag enviously and after a short pause accepts Peracil's offer.
You’re wandering the Oren Road late at night, when a large Orc begins to threaten a nearby dwarf. There is no help nearby, and the situation looks like it will escalate into violence soon, what does your character do?
Peracil is walking down the Oren Road at night when he witnesses a dwarf being threatened by an Orc. His first reaction is an urge to help the Dwarf. "Us merchants should stick together," he thought to himself. He readies himself to back up the dwarf until he got a better look at the Orc. A towering Orc by Orcish standards, mean and angry looking, is not someone you want to interfere with. Peracil sighs and walks right past the pair, as he knows that his involvement will not end well.
Whilst walking down the road to Malinor, you stumble upon an old man. His walking stick , looks weak and frail, and just as you are about to ask something, the stick breaks, and the man falls to the ground. As he falls down, a bag of Minas falls to the ground, and splits open. As you watch the multiple coins spill out, you peer down at the defenceless man. What does your character do?:
Peracil immediately thinks of Lebascus, his childhood mentor and friend. "He and this man are very similar in appearance," he thinks to himself, and he bends down to assist the man to his feet immediately. Peracil retrieves the man's money and gives him his own walking stick. "Thank you, my son.. I grow weary. What were you going to ask of me before I fell?" the old man questioned. "I was going to ask if you have ever met a man by the name of Cortrel Lebascus, who was a friend of mine," says Peracil. The old man looks him dead in the eye with a look of utmost loathing and walks off without saying a single more word.
