Definitions In your own words, define what the act of roleplaying is: Roleplaying is assuming the role of a character; acting and speaking as they would. In your own words, define what the act of meta-gaming is: Meta-gaming is using knowledge that your character In-Characterly would not have access to, such as learning someone's location through Out-of-Character means and using that in-game or learning someone's name from mechanics rather than finding it out In-Characterly.. In your own words, define what the act of power-emoting is: Power-emoting is forcing an action onto another character without giving them a choice to respond or resist. For example, "The Bandit stabs John Doe in the face, killing him instantly." In-Character Details Character Name: Richard Sterling Character Race: Human Character biography - Make this at least 2 paragraphs long, which must explain your character’s history, appearance, personality, age and any other details you deem necessary: Sterling is fairly average in stature with a lithe build. His hair is a dark brown which is often tied back for practicality. His face is for the most part, without impurities save for a somewhat prominent scar running across his cheek, which he refuses to divulge information on what caused it. His eyes are a piercing blue, which compliment his cold and calculated nature as he passes his gaze over his surroundings. As of late, they have been accompanied with light bags under his eyes. His clothing is somewhat base, save for a few items of finery; often wearing his waistcoat that bulges with several tools tucked underneath, over his clothes he dons a belt of several pouches and a scabbard for his sword which is engraved with markings and a red gem embedded into the hilt. Over his black gloves, he wears a signet ring of unknown origins and around his neck he wears a pendant with the same symbol as on the ring. As stated, Sterling is a calculated man who often always evaluates something before taking action. He is often abrasive to those around him who he does not know and if he engages in conversation or takes an action, it can be almost certain there are ulterior motives behind them. Sterling was born and bred in Arethor into a middle-class family of merchants. He was given every possible opportunity for education and went from grace to grace, often excelling in subjects of literature and the arts. He was always very ambitious and strove to achieve to measure up to his father, who was a successful businessman. By the time his education had finished, he was something of a master of the rhetoric, bearing a silver tongue that would help him gain a number of friends and contacts across the Empire. Currently, he is making his way through life alongside Gormadoc Twofoot; a Halfling who he has built a brotherly bond with. What he is searching for is unclear, but for now he is taking life in his stride, in a very 'bon vivant' manner. What are your characters ambitions?: Sterling's ambitions are to achieve higher places and build a homestead of his own; perhaps even expand it in the name of progression and industry. Please provide an in-game screenshot of your skin here: Is there anything else you would like to say about your character: I have listed all I need to on my biography! Open-Response-Questions Each question here must be answered with a minimum of one full paragraph, and detail the scene you are given in the way it would happen in roleplay. These questions should be answered in first person. Be detailed, not short. Upon entering the Mighty Human City of Arethor, you come across a shop-keeper calling out to sell his wares to passers-by. The shopkeeper is not a Human, he is a poor dwarf looking to make a living in a new city. What is your response? As I enter the Dwarf's establishment, I look upon him with some apprehension. I had never truly gotten along with the other races, however as I look around his shop I notice that it was a miserable, decrepit place; filled with cobwebs and forlorn of any finery. Swallowing my pride, I address the Dwarf, "Any new wares, Dwarf?" as he lists his inventory, I collect a few tools from his range and place them upon the counter. "Ah, I think that will be all." I say politely as I place a few Minas on the counter in payment, feeling somewhat empathetic to the destitute shopkeeper. Saying my thanks, I make my exit with a shadow of a smile on my face. You’re wandering the Oren Road late at night, when a large Orc begins to threaten a nearby dwarf. There is no help nearby, and the situation looks like it will escalate into violence soon, what does your character do? As I walk down the Oren Road, I catch sight of a confrontation between a rather large, lumbering Orc and a Dwarf who is quite literally 'dwarfed' by the size difference. I briskly step side behind the bushes, evaluating the situation. I only catch a brief few words that are overshadowed by the inane roars and intelligible blubberings of the Dwarf. Examining the Orc, I know fully well that it could overpower me; however, a challenge is a challenge. I step from behind the growth and stride towards the ruckus with my chin held high, attempting to defuse the situation. Almost immediately, the savage Orc turns on me, snarling in his barbaric manner. He roars out in a broken accent, "Little whelp! I gut you!" and lunges forward to strike me. Desperately ducking and weaving out of the way of his hits, I draw my dirk from its scabbard and begin slashing at the Orc as I continue to maneuver out of the way. After about ten minutes of fighting, the Orc collapses to its knees from fatigue. I look upon it with disdain and then look upon the Dwarf with the same sour expression. I stow away the dirk, I leave the Orc in a heap on the ground and then walk off down the road, with both of them watching my departure. Whilst walking down the road to Malinor, you stumble upon an old man. His walking stick , looks weak and frail, and just as you are about to ask something, the stick breaks, and the man falls to the ground. As he falls down, a bag of Minas falls to the ground, and splits open. As you watch the multiple coins spill out, you peer down at the defenceless man. What does your character do?: I hurry to help the old man up, concerned for his well-being I ask, "Are you alright?" he simply nods and I sit him down somewhere safe as I return to gather his belongings and put them all back in his bag. Afterwards, I put the bag over my shoulder and escort the old man to Malinor. We exchange cordial words and make some small-talk. Upon reaching the nearest establishment I purchase him a - hopefully more sturdy - walking stick. As he attempts to give me a few coins, I politely decline and we both go on our way.
