Týrök was born to Ólaf Svensson, a member of the Rurikguard in Ruriksgrad, and his wife Mínerva Jerrikdóttir. From the age he was strong enough to hold a weapon, his father trained him, grooming him for the military and due to his considerable size, this quickly fell into use of the two handed axe. During the siege of Ruriksgrad, Týrök's father would die in the fighting, resulting in him and his mother fleeing in the night once the city fell. Týrök and his mother would then become vagabonds, moving from town to town, during this time Týrök would continue his training, doing physical labor to build up money to help support his mother and eventually pay for a tutor. This lifestyle would continue on for many years before the duo would return to the Earldom of Nordengrad where Týrök would get a job in construction, saving his money still. Týrök would raise enough money to convince one of the Red Brothers to train him in melee combat and the basics of infantry tactics. After many years of training and learning, Týrök would leave Nordengrad a trained man ready to seek out adventure and make his own story as a mercenary.
