    Briefly explain the lore behind this construct or creature:

    • The Hoi-Zi were created by the daemon Metztli who searched seven years for a candidate for her little science experiment. She selected primates, gifting sentience to the alpha of a group of monkeys. He became known as Hou-Shen, the Monkey King. With this gift of sentience, he was able to build a kingdom of Hou-Zi that rapidly expanded in the jungle of Asul. Malin became aware of this presence and sent ambassadors to the quickly growing city of Jing-Taiyun but was turned away. At the request of Metztli, the Monkey King set his sights beyond the jungle in hopes of expanding his kingdom in her name. This led to the First Great War of Malin. The war went on for decades of on and off peace as the Monkey King and Malin fought for dominance of Axios. The Hou-Zi conquered almost half of Axios before the death of their leader, Hou-Shen. Demoralized, they retreated, and Malin and his forces began to reconquer their land. The Hou-Zi were unable to return to their city of Jing-Taiyun as a primordial being known as “The Poison” threw it into ruin. The Hou-Zi scattered into the jungle, unsure of what to do next.
    • Metztli--feeling as though The Poison meddled far too much in the downfall of her creations--revived the soul of Hou-Shen, returning him to his people. They regrouped, and like before, built their city of Jing-Taiyun within years. Their need to conquer still remained, and the Hou-Zi made a second attempt at the conquering of Axios. This time around, Malin was absent and the elven race was separated. While this initially seemed like an advantage, they soon learned that the three races united was no easy enemy. All of Hou-Shen’s sons were slain, and the Monkey King’s forces retreated in defeat back to the jungle of Asul where they were forced to remain (as it was within the terms of their surrender).
    • For a race that once had the resources of almost half of Axios, they were now limited to the small jungle of Asul, and resorted to civil conflict between families over things like jade. Hou-Shen, disheartened at the state of things simply walked out (lmfao), leaving the Hou-Zi in the plagued city of Jing-Taiyun. The families realized their useless squabbling led to their downfall too late, and all they could do was abandon their city and scatter again into the jungle. To this day, they still await the return of their King, so they can be once more be led into GLORIOUS battle. Again. ‘Cause apparently they didn’t learn the first two times :’D

     

    • There are three sub-types for this race:
      • Lobai-Zun -- most common sub-race, shades of brown, shortest lived (80-100 years).
      • Fei-Zhu -- resemble baboons, colorful fur, 5'-6' tall, live up to 150-250 years.
      • Hei-Zhu -- resemble silverback gorillas, strongest of the sub-races, 6'5-7' tall, live to about 250-300 years.
