  1. A mali'ker scoffs as he looks the letter over, quickly crumbling it up and tossing it into a fire. "They will be met with death, destruction, and fire. The honorable mali'ker who do not follow their creed or any of their ilk will also be met with the same unscrupulous ire, for simply being mali'ker. Have we not learned from the ages of the White Rose, when we were mistaken for those cursed and evil Mori'Quessir? Our kind will be hunted again and again.. Our ancestors would be ashamed." The mali'ker shakes his head, returning to his forge and sharpening blades for what was to come.

  2. A mali'ker takes the letter within his hands, squinting at it. He turns it all around, as if viewing the numbers from different angles would assist him in understanding it. He gives it a total of thirty seconds thought before he shrugs, "Not worth it. I'll just ask 'em myself later." He then tosses the letter aside and goes about his day.

  3. "Better to just go circleless and teach I'd think, but I wish them all the best in bringing like minded folk to the aid of the Balance.." a mud elf sighs, tucking the missive away.

What magic(s) will you be teaching?

             Lutaumancy

Describe this magic or a creature as a whole:

Lutaumancy is a subsection of shamanism that allows one to spirit walk to Stargush'stroh, or the afterlife created by the Daemon Apohet, and now watched over by the spirit of the dead Kor. They are able to take others along with them to the ancestral realm, converse with ancestral spirits, channel visual and auditory visions of memories of the ancestors, and even call upon Kor to claim lost souls within the mortal realm.

Are there different sections or subsections of magic? Can those be elaborated upon?

There are no different sections to lutaumancy, however there are other sections to shamanism such as farseer and witch doctor, who interact with other spirits within Apohet's realm in different ways to achieve different end results. Some examples of these other sections of shamanism are farseers ability of farsight, and witch doctors ability to cast curses or brew hexes.

Can you give an example of a casting emote, of a spell of your choice?

    Kor's Blessing
Veld'urra closes his eyes, one of his long ears giving a soft flick as he calms his breathing and focuses inwards. The dark elven shaman's lips move silently, mumbling a soft, unheard prayer as his head begins to sway in focus. He then gives a soft gasp as he feels an icy grasp upon his very soul, and opens his eyes. He then raises his hands upwards and his mouth opens as he speaks his prayer out loud, beckoning the spirit, "Gothurz Kor! Hon'maturz! Skaat uizish!" As he speaks a faint white smoke pours from his mouth, white and tinged blue along the edge as it envelops him. His aura continues to pour out as he breathes and speaks, chanting louder and his voice booms across the empty air, "Ghulum zhaf'frum! Gothurz Kor! Hon'maturz!" With this his eyes glow a pale white light, and his mouth falls open revealing a similar white glow as his shoulders slump. The aura pouring from his mouth swirls and reaches for the nearby specter, and it would feel a natural pull towards the shaman, now a conduit for the spirit of the dead.

Can you give an example of a teaching-emote (interacting with another) of a spell of your choice?

    Soul Resonance (Auditory)
Veld'urra sits down with his student, lighting his pipe and bringing it up to take a long drag before he blows out a thick billow of smoke before him. He clears his throat before he begins speaking, "Now that you have learned to project your spirit into Stargush'stroh, you will learn to focus on a specific ancestor and channel their memories. It is important that we praise our ancestors, and we honor them by sharing their stories, their victories, their lessons. It makes them stronger, and by doing this we are keeping their memories alive by sharing it with others." He takes another long drag of his pipe before he sighs some smoke out slowly, "You will start out focusing like you would when going to Stargush, then you begin your chant.. call out to the ancestor you wish to channel, focus upon them, your connection with them, any and all memories. If you have any of their mementos or items with a strong spiritual connection it will assist in this endeavor, and when it happens.. you will feel it. It will feel as if they are right there with you, hand on your shoulder.. and then you will be able to hear them, their memory. Once you are more experienced you will be able to channel visions, but for now you must listen. I will demonstrate this for you first then you can try."

Say your student powergames during or after teaching, how do you reprimand that?

During teaching would be optimal, and to be expected honestly. I would encourage them to ask me any questions that they have even if they seemed like dumb ones. If they powergame during teaching, I would simply state what they are doing wrong and how they can fix it. It doesn't need to go much further than that as mistakes are a natural part of the teaching process. After they are done being taught, however, and they still powergame I would reach out to them and explain what they did wrong, and make sure they understand it. I would go on to explain to them how they can correct their issue, and clarify exactly what they can and can not do in greater detail. Depending on the severity of the problem, however, and if they do not seem to learn from mistakes and repeated reminding, I would go to the ST to get them involved with the issue.

    Origin and History

The Maki'ker of the Des'Nox were originally a nomadic clan. While they tended to keep to the Mali lands, they were almost hermit-like with their caution of outsiders, new members only joining after marrying into the family. As roamers, most children of Des'Nox grew up learning to hunt and craft things that could be sold for the betterment of the clan; some members even selling their services as mercenaries. However, over time the main family line found its way back into the fold of the Mali people, even assuming the reins of leadership over the Mali’ker for a few centuries and bringing them back into Ancestralism and Spiritualism after their own awakening. From the days of the Fringe until this very day, the Des'Nox seek to enlighten and protect their people as watchers in the night.

    Ancestral Awakening

Not long after the Des’Nox assumed control over their people from the hands of the Old Families under the banner of Haelun’or, an estranged priestess joined their settlement preaching Khel’s old ways of the Ancestors. The seeds of elder tradition having been planted, Clan Patriarch Dak’ir began to seek out any and all historical information. So far was he in his devotion that he pledged his life to these ways, learning to communicate with them to voice their wishes via the teachings of honored orcish shamans. The ‘Ker soon learnt more of his people… long forgotten histories, names, and eldritch orders. And soon he began to preach the Old Ways and bring the word of the Ancestors to the Mali’ker people once again. Those of his family would also become devout followers and over the decades various orders devoted to these Ancestors were created. One of the old traditional orders that held firm with the Des’Nox was the Ordinators.

    Vindication

Inspired by visions and sights of Ancestors that donned golden chitin and once protected ancient Mali’ker homelands, Dak’ir created the Ordinators who strove to enforce that same protection the Ancestors provided and spread the will of these Ancestors with sometimes vicious zeal. Members of this group became strange priests or zealous warriors that don the gold colored plate and enforce the will of the Ancestors. The Des’Nox sometimes take personal oaths to the Ancestors before taking the golden face. Their armors are marked with hanging scrolls with these written sacred oaths, trophies from battles or heretical purges, or idols made in dedication to their favored Spirits.

The sons and daughters of the night favor Luara and Kor the most for their connection to the Mali’ker people, bestowing many offerings and prayers to these Spirits. While not direct descendants of Velulaei, the Des’Nox value Luara’s physical gifts that embody her love for Kor as a source of pride and blessing from the Spirit.

The Des'Nox clan venerate the Ancestors above all else. They pray or reflect on the actions of their forebears for guidance. However in the recent centuries Spiritualism has become more prevalent, Luara and Kor being the chosen patron Spirits. As of now, no other belief is accepted within the clan outside of ancestralism. To turn your back on the Ancestors is to turn your back on your family. While other duties may pull the Des’Nox away from this focus, the Ancestors must be venerated above all else.

    Modern Des'Nox

To this day many of the Des'Nox have returned to their nomadic ways, traveling in smaller bands of tight knit families on the outskirts of civilization. Dak'ir Des'Nox was the last to hold the title of clan father when he went on his pilgrimage, yet his grandsons have returned to the lands of Almaris and beyond to take up that mantle and lead the family once more. Today they still follow in the footsteps of their ancestors, teaching any and all who will listen as they spread their faith and stories. Unlike Dak'ir, however, these sons of onyx sought the knowledge held within the Grand City of All, and seek to share what they have found to all who might find kin that reside there.

    Culture

While different sects of the clan may practice smaller traditions or variations, there are many common threads and beliefs that tie this nomadic family together, following the traditions and beliefs set forth by previous Clan Fathers and Ancestors.

    The Night

The Des'Nox hold a great affinity for the night. As they were originally nomadic, the night offered direction and protection from the usual daylight dangers. But to them, the night was so much more. In concealing themselves, using the stars as guides, and even assisting in night-time hunting. To them, the night’s fall was akin to a loving embrace, forever watching over them.

    Names

The Des'Nox have a strange way of naming their children. They use a combination of syllables from the parent's names as a way of symbolizing the unity between two mates. It's not uncommon for names to be passed down through the generations. (For example: Dak'ir's father was Dak'rezar). Traditionally, the mother's name comes first for their daughters and the father's name would come first for the sons. Full names not following this convention imply that the member was either a bastard or simply married (or adopted) into the family. This roots from the original clan father’s belief of passion. Des’Nox believe that the effort and care taken to create a child should represent that bond. Hence why the parents names are needed to create the new name. Bastards find themselves with a whole name simple because they are usually raised by a single parent. Those who abandon their children are cast out and exiled.

    Appearance

All members clad themselves in the colors of the night sky, various blues, silver, and black. Simple clothing or robes being the usual choice of clothing, however some Des'Nox tend to mix plates of armor into their attire as both a means of protection and as a form of fashion. These plates are almost always the same golden color of the Ordinators, to represent that these honored warriors are always in their hearts and minds.

While it’s inevitable that families and races mix, the main bloodline that the Clan Father is normally chosen is to remain pure. Those that wish to spread outside of the Mali’ker may do so by giving up claim to this title. Under no circumstances is it approved to mix with another descendant race, such as valah, under the understanding that this is a permanent curse upon any children.

    Rite of passage

In the early to mid teen years of young Des'Nox children, they go through a trial to enter adulthood. A simple test of survival and mettle. Historically, the nomadic clan simply left the child or children behind as they traveled between locations, returning for them at a later date. The only rule of this trial is that the child may not follow the clan. Traditionally, the amount of supplies given to the child is a representation of how much faith they have in their child surviving. For the most part, any tool or supply outside of a simple knife is frowned upon, seeing this as a failure on the part of the parent for not preparing their child appropriately.

For example: Giving your child a knife is nothing compared to giving it a bow and arrows. By giving them supplies, you're seen as not having faith in their abilities to survive. As well, all children must have found an acceptable ‘piece of night’ to complete their rites.

    Celebration

The Des’Nox have simple pleasures. Celebrating is something the clan frequently enjoy. Whether it be the birth of a newborn, the bond between two lovers, or even a successful hunt, a Des'Nox will turn it into a festivity accompanied by tale telling, drinking and music. They often favor various string and percussion instruments.

    Craftsmanship

The vagabond clan did what it could to make a living. While most were adept hunters and herbalists, coin was still needed for a living. Most clansmen were skilled craftsmen and tailors. From dresses to wooden toys and even carved jewelry, the clan honed their skills for the betterment of the family.

The most practiced skill passed down from generation to generation upon finally settling down within Mali lands was stone carving. The Des’Nox view themselves as adept stone workers in working with projects as large as carving out entire cavern systems to house the Mali’ker to as small as intricate jewelry.

    Black Stone Bracelets

Most notable of their craftsmanship are the simple black stone bracelets most, if not all, Des'Nox are seen wearing. Mainly being something parents gave their children or juveniles gave their allure, it represented their love for that person. They were usually crafted from dark colored rocks, such as onyx or obsidian. The Night Father called these stones ‘pieces of night’ as the clan’s love for the night sky is represented in these stones. It was thought that the more beautiful the bracelet, the more that person cared. As the clan was poor, it meant acquiring gems or carving stones would either take a lot of time to find or cost them more than they could afford. As it was mainly given to another as a clan tradition, these bracelets were almost never given to those outside of the clan.

Outside of giving this bracelet to someone the ‘Ker cared about, it could also be used during a proposal for marriage. The proposer would show their love for their partner through the materials chosen and the craftsmanship put into the making of the bracelet.

    Magic

Most Des'nox either show open distaste or simply do not care for voidal magics, believing it corrupts the mind and body, weakening it. In recent years, various shamanisms have become common with their worship of the Spirits coming more into the light.

What magic(s) will you be teaching?

             Druidic Communion

Describe this magic or a creature as a whole:

Druidic communion is the base ability that a descendant receives whenever they go through a dedicancy and after they're attuned. This ability stems from the three deities known as the Aspects, for the purpose of keeping and protecting the balance of nature. After attunement one would feel the ebb and flow of nature around them as an extra sense, albeit muffled and distant. This feeling can be jarring and difficult to adjust to, though after some time most do adjust well enough.

With proper lessons this extra sense allows them to better hone in on the 'sound' of nature, and make it clearer. This basic ability is the bedrock of druidism, and allows them to further make requests of druidism as well as focus and channel their natural energies within themselves. From base communion one can learn through lessons abilities such as tuning, growth, powersharing, surge, and ungrowing.

Are there different sections or subsections of magic? Can those be elaborated upon?

Communion is the ability to focus in on the sound of nature around you for the purpose of sending or receiving information. When you learn how to commune, you open yourself up to hear that flow of nature much clearer. This is expanded upon by learning tuning, how to focus in on a single voice amongst the cacophony of voices around you, or even several voices around you once you reach the proper tier. Tuning only applies to plants however, and to learn to hear the natural voices of animals one must learn beastspeak. This is essentially the same as tuning but for animals. With all communication through communion plants and animals do not know how to 'speak' as we do, so this communication is done with basic thoughts, feelings, and imagery.

Control is the other half of the magic, where a druid essentially learns to control the natural energies within them and feed said energy into natural sources, whether it be another druid's energy pool or a plant of some sort for the sake of giving it the energy to grow. The other part of this half of druidism isn't necessarily controlling nature but rather making a request of nature, such as making a tree branch sway, or vines to move and wrap around something or someone.

Through all of these abilities though a druid would find their natural energies drained, even if they weren't necessarily channeling it into something it is a tiring process that gets easier the more practiced a druid is.

Can you give an example of a casting emote, of a spell of your choice?

Celahir takes in a deep breath, closing his eyes and allowing all thoughts to drift away from himself for but a moment. The grass around the young druid's feet curl gently inwards, as if to touch the connecting druid before flexing back into place and swaying with the wind. His eyes flick open, now suddenly aglow with a bright, pale golden flame that flicks off the edge of his eyes in gentle, harmless wisps.

He looks up to the tree before him now with his radiant gaze, the song of nature much more audible around him. The young druid reaches out both physically with a single arm outstretched, and through communion opening a line of communication with the tree. A gentle smile spreads across his face once his singles out this lone voice, and he makes a simple request of it, a seed that he can take elsewhere and bury so that its children will thrive.

The tree gives a soft shudder in response to the young druid's request, regarding him for a long moment before a single green bud could be seen developing from one of the low hanging branches. Celahir closes his eyes with this, keeping focus with an arm outstretched as this delicate green bud grows. Like a time lapse this bud twitches and grows larger, before suddenly blossoming into a beautiful pink flower that outstretches and catches the sun.

The petals on this flower quickly wilt and fall away, and at the base of it within the stem a bulbous growth begins to form, growing larger and larger, purple and fuzzy. The bulb continues to grow, losing its fuzz and turning green as it slowly grows larger and smooth as the petal on the end completely diminishes. The already low hanging branch dips lower with the weight of this growth, and rests in Celahir's hand a single, ripe, juicy green apple. He opens his eyes, a bright smile spreading across his face as he gives the tree his silent thanks, dipping his head some, and plucks the apple off of the branch.

Can you give an example of a teaching-emote (interacting with another) of a spell of your choice?

(Before any of this I would provide the student OOCly with the link to the druidism guide that provides the correct emote counts for their tier)

Celahir sits before his student, legs crossed underneath him and a fresh patch of grass between them. "Now that you've learned how to open yourself up to the song of nature, I will show you how to sort through all of those voices and we will begin with this," he brings forth a closed fist, opening it up to reveal a seed resting in his palm. "Though this is only a seed it carries the same energies that we druids can sense, and you will reach out to it. First, meditation. Open yourself up to the ebb and flow of nature around you and then we will proceed."

The student does as he asks, closing their eyes and meditating. To give his student some extra practice, Celahir takes no care in digging a hole between them, loudly tearing into the earth and hindering his concentration. This brings forth a slight grin to Celahir's face, seeing his students frustration. "Focus. You will have to do this while so much more is going on around you, a little digging is nothing." He proceeds with planting the seed, nestling it within the soft earth he had dug up and pushing the soil over it. Once the student had achieved opening up his connection, Celahir motions down to the loose earth.

"This will be difficult but I know you are capable. Start by closing your eyes and just.. feeling all of those voices around you. Meditate on that, and then turn your attention to this single, little voice here beneath the earth. Imagine you are in a crowded room with everyone talking, and what it is like to tune into a single voice amongst that crowd to have a conversation. You can do it."

The student closes their eyes once more, listening to the cacophony of voices all around them as instructed and attempting to parse out the lone, little voice of the seed before him. It is quiet and sleepy, waiting. It takes some time for the student to get a connection to this single voice, but once this is achieved they open their eyes and look to the dirt patch. Celahir smiles brightly. "Wonderful.. Wonderful there you are. It's very faint but it is there.. Now I will show you how to feed your energy into this seed, and you can ask it to grow. It's sleepy but eager to blossom and feel the sun, so I think it would happily take your request. Focus on that voice, make your request, and keep that focus.."

The student nods, closing their eyes once more and focusing on that single voice they are already tuned in to. The student makes their request, asking the little seed to grow. Once more, it takes some time for this young student to reach their goal but eventually it comes to fruition. The loose earth splits and rises gently, before a single green stem rises up out of the earth with a bud growing atop it. The plant reaches up higher and higher as the student concentrates, before the bud suddenly blossoms into a beautiful white flower, catching the sun.

Celahir laughs, grinning brightly and reaching over to pat his student on the shoulder. "Wonderful job! Wonderful. Now you've got the basics.. parsing out the single voice, focusing your energies, and making a request.. and it's important to remember that you are requesting nature, not commanding it. If it does not do as you ask, you have not failed, sometimes nature can be very stubborn. However, I would like you to practice this further in your off time. It will get easier as time goes on, but practice is important if you want to be able to do this in stressful situations."

From there Celahir would encourage them to practice more, and watch over their progress before proceeding on with further lessons.

Say your student powergames during or after teaching, how do you reprimand that?

During teaching would be optimal, and to be expected honestly. Before every lesson I would make sure to give them the guide so they can look at the proper emote counts, and what they can do with their abilities. Spoiler

He took her hand in his, and they smiled, sharing an evening together beneath the stars. They made so many promises to each other, as the young and hopelessly in love do.

The body of Arveldir Des’Nox, wrapped in linens of beige and turkish blue, would arrive at the doorstep of his first cousin and adoptive father Dak’ir Des’Nox. Along with the body there would be a letter, one sent out to many others in neatly written handwriting, though of a kind unknown to all recipients.

To my dearest family and friends, should this letter be taken from my possession and a copy reach your hands, then regretfully I have passed away. Do not let this fact sadden you, but rejoice knowing that I have lived a full and happy life. Rejoice knowing that I am lucky enough to have fathered four children of my own, my gifts to this world. Take heart the lessons and the laughter that I have given you in my life, and I ask you forgive my wrongdoings.

To Celahir, take to heart everything your mother taught you. All of the lessons she gave to you were worth more than you know.

Remember to be kind to others, and to pass on even a fraction of the

love and happiness she held would make the world around you heaven on earth.

To Yae’vel, I hope one day you can truly find your path to happiness, it is all your mother would have wanted for you.

No magical abilities will give that to you, no earthly possessions, only the good company you keep and a loving family around you.

To Ardreth, do not lose your way in this world. You were born of love, hope and purpose. You brought happiness into our lives, love into our hearts.

Though I leave you in this world along with your mother, remember what I have taught you, no matter how alone you might feel you never truly are,

family will always be there for you if you just take the time to look.

To Arv’urra, I ask for your forgiveness leaving you so young without a father.

Know that if I could I’d have parted with you all of my earthly knowledge, but our time together drew short.

Please take care of your mother as I would have, and listen to her well.

To Inurra, the light in my darkness, remember the times we spent together, the camping trips, the hunts, the smithing lessons, our beautiful child.

Take all my earthly possessions, use the money, tools, and clothes to raise our boy up to the man he’s meant to be.

To Dwyn, thank you for all that you have done in my life, for taking me in as a child when no others would, for raising me into a decent man.

Never forget that even the lowliest of orphans could grow into a father, a prince, a friend.

“We’ll be together forever, right?” she asked, their hands ever intertwined and afraid to let go. “Forever.” The boy smiled, his bright lemon eyes glowing with happiness.

    Spoiler

((Well it’s finally here! After seven years on and server and five long years playing this guy, I’m finally saying good bye to my oldest character. In the time that I first created him as a little orphan dark elf, and played him, OOCly I found someone truly special in my life, moved across the country TWICE, got married, and we’re looking to have a kid (hopefully) soon. It’s like saying good bye to an old part of my life, so long Arveldir! Thanks to everyone who partook in my journey both in game and out of game, love you all!))

  15. “He did what?” Arveldir sputtered, an immediate sneer approaching on his dark and stubbly face as he’s told the news. He had been far too busy elsewhere, too preoccupied to take part in the festivities or take notice of the very current political matters. His face fixes into a scowl, though it immediately lightens as he’s further explained to, a jovial expression taking place of the look of contempt. “Oh but he won? Good man, then. Long live the king,” he simply raises a glass, drinking away the evening with his apprentice.
