  1. Out-Of-Character Information

The simplest section of the application! Simply answer these questions so we can get to know you a bit better.

What’s your Minecraft Account Name?: - Same as the username - weatherman321
How old are you?: - 20
What time-zone do you live in?: - (UTC-06:00) Central Time (US)

Have you ever roleplayed before - if you have, how?: - Back in the day I roleplayed actively on a Garry's Mod server. It was a small, close-knit community of experienced, mature roleplayers. Because of that, metagaming and powergaming weren't really a problem (personally, I found that the times when I 'lost' opened up the most interesting paths for character development). To sum up the experience, it was tons of fun.
Have you been on any other roleplaying servers?: - As far as minecraft goes, I haven't found any communities yet that share my fondness for RP.
Have you applied to this server before?(Please link past applications): - This is my first time applying.

How did you hear about us?: - Someone mentioned you on /r/mcservers
What do you think the server will be like? - I've always thought that minecraft's open-endedness offered a fantastic opportunity for players to create from the ground up a living, breathing, fully immersive world. I'm hoping (and it seems like) LotC will realize that potential.
Have you read and agreed to the rules?: - Yep.
What’s your favourite rule / the rule you agree with the most?: - The rules against powergaming. In my experience this is a mistake made by novice and veteran RPers alike. You guys said it best on the wiki- the great thing about RP is that losing can be fun too!

    Definitions

This is simply so that we can get an understanding of how much you know about roleplaying. Feel free to Google the answers, but make sure that you write the reply in your own words, not another website / person's!

What is roleplaying?: - Roleplaying is acting out a character that is not yourself. You respond to situations presented to you the way your character would, not yourself.

What’s metagaming?: - Metagaming is making character decisions based on information your character would reasonably have no way of knowing. For example, you are out adventuring when you hear in OOC chat that someone is about to attack your town, at which point you immediately turn around and go back to defend, even though your character should be unaware of what's happening.

What’s powergaming?: - Powergaming is 'playing to win.' Often if one allows their character's ambitions and their own ambitions to become mixed, they will roleplay in a way that attempts to force a specific outcome. This is done without regard for other players, not giving them a way to respond to what is happening. For example, rather than typing "/me stabs player," it's better to type "/me attempts to stab player."

    In-Character Information

Now you actually make your character - be creative but stay reasonable! Make sure they make sense and that they follow lore. Try to come up with a character that you actually want to play.

What’s your character called?: - Valandil (Often called simply 'Val,' much to his dismay)

What race are they (and sub-race)?: - Wood Elf

What sex are they?: - Male

How old are they?: - 98

Give us a brief description of their life - their story, childhood, family: - Valandil's family has traditionally been heavily involved with the Druidic Order since time immemorial. When it came time for Valandil to join the order, however, he resisted his family's wishes. Valandil hated the idea of being restricted by rules and tradition. He did not want to spend years locked away studying dusty old tomes; Valandil wanted to see the world. He craved adventure. He craved freedom. His family, of course, was not pleased to hear this. Tensions steadily rose between Valandil and his family until one day, finally, Valandil left the home of his ancestors. Since then he has traveled great distances, seen a great many sights and met a great many people. Though he still spends most of his time in nature, one can often find him travelling on the road or working odd jobs in towns and villages.

What are they like (personality)?: - Among those who have met him, Valandil is notorious for his impish personality. Mischievous and having a penchant for speaking in riddles, it is not uncommon for him to get on people's nerves. Although he is a prankster, he could hardly be called mean spirited, and he would never play a trick that would cause harm to someone. In fact, if he is teasing someone, it usually means he is quite fond of them. Valandil is also known for being uncommonly enthusiastic about seemingly insignificant things - a hot bowl of homemade stew, a children's game of tag, the way the light plays upon a piece of jewelry. He actively seeks new experiences and is always eager to know more about the world. All in all, he can be said to have a carefree, happy-go-lucky personality. The only times he becomes uncharacteristically solemn or even angry are when someone wantonly destroys nature or displays particular cruelty. He holds a deep respect for nature, and he cannot abide the wicked.

What are their ambitions?: - Valandil has an insatiable thirst for adventure and discovery, and is always in search of new things. One day, he hopes to bring something of great value back to his ancestral home and prove to his elders that they were wrong about him. He is also on a never-ending quest to find the perfect cherry pie.

Do they have any special skills?: - Having spent many years surviving on his own in the wilderness, he has developed a skill set befitting of a woodsman. He is adept at foraging for food and materials and at tracking prey when hunting. His preferred hunting method is the bow, and he has become quite skilled over time. Partly as a result of his ancestry, he is in tune with nature, and can glean information from natural environments that others might not notice. Aside from forestry, he carries with him a pan flute, which he has been known to play from time to time in inns and taverns. He is also fairly nimble and agile.

What are their weaknesses?: - Being small in stature, he is not able to wield a sword nor use heavy armors effectively. He is also unable to sustain heavy blows, nor is he able to operate very well in harsh environments, such as blazing deserts or freezing tundras. Besides all this, he is somewhat of a coward, and will lose his nerve very quickly if faced with a formidable foe. He is also hopelessly addicted to sweets.

Give us a description of how they look (not a screenshot yet!)?: - Brownish-hued skin, dirty blonde hair (quite short for an elf, and pointing straight back) dyed with a streak of green, brown eyes, a rather elongated face, one earing. Small in stature.

Anything else you want to say about them?: -

Admittedly, I wanted to create a character that had a lot of flexibility. I intend to use this character to explore the map and get better acquainted with the various peoples, cities, nations and other lore. Also I can use that time to get a solid understanding of how gameplay works on this particular server. After all that is done, who knows? Maybe I'll stick with this character or maybe I'll create a new one.

Please give us a screenshot of your character’s skin: -
