I think that is ignoring the fact players have a lot of pent up frustration with how current and past admins for the past three years (and longer) have straight up let every single community down with their decisions. I tried RPing with the old Hnorian's and they actively ignored me or did nothing in regards to the complaints I levied IRPly, and the only time they did was to 'dunk' on me. Even people who don't care about the Elf Sphere of LotC just see this as a massive loss, this was a movement going on for IRL months and we were frankly just ignored up until Hnor got backed into a corner and they miraculously manage to survive when they did actively nothing to prepare for coming conflict and outright said in Discord they were not even going to log in, so they could avoid dying. Players get sick and tired of anyone getting OOC protection when they frankly fucked up. The 'vitriol' is just merely a symptom of a problem that stems from the community environment and how staff have decided to deal with most situations. Though we did actually contribute to RP, we had 30 or so players on yesterday when old Hnor only mustered 11 and attempted to disrupt what we were doing in the tavern but we just pushed past until they basically retreated and instantly logged out when they knew admins wouldn't be paying attention, I should also mention this whole RP movement has been going on for months IRL so it wasn't like it came out of no where. Most people are gonna want to mald because frankly with all that transpired IRPly we should have won, Hnor had no standing force, had failed to secure allies and had failed to sway any from Ivarielle's side to support them. Feels pointless to RP on a server where there seems to be no consequences to sides that should have lost.
A little late replying to this, but I did go out of my way to try and include you in stuff like snail racing. I won't touch on the stuff regarding the decision -- as I think we were seeing two completely different things happening inside Haelun'or -- but I would be happy to RP with you and the rest of Ivarielle's gang in the future. Just shoot me a DM and I'll come host a snail race on your new turf!

A little disappointing to see how much vitriol this seems to have sparked with a lot of people (see: the people more willing to spend effort malding in here than actually contributing to RP in Hnor lmao), but you gotta crack a few eggs to make an omelette.

What should you hope to achieve in this role? :Abuse my radiant charisma and existing international rapport to make sure the blessed Silver State's international interests are properly represented to our fellow nation-states.
I also develop a terrible itch if I am not involved in Haelun'or's politics for more than a century, and it's almost at the 60 year mark since my retirement from the seat of Maheral.

Malaurir Ikur "Ikur Sullas" Sullas -- famous restaurateur and local Republic enthusiast -- puts the missive in a lovely frame and hangs it in the foyer, next to the copy of his Okarir'tir appointment by Kalenz Uradir in the 15th century 1E. Eighteen and a half minutes later he rises from his incredibly comfy chair to adjust the framed missive, as it was off-kilter by about three degrees. He resumes his perusing of Hansetian sports news in the paper.

The journal is copied for Haelun'orian readers, but appended with words from the city's Sohaer. The page, then stamped and marked, was distributed. As was all knowledge spread under the blessed doctrine of maehr'sae hiylun'ehya.
"Even this Republican sycophant would agree, in no unclear words, that the High Elves who followed the Republic abandoned their own city and retired from their jobs in public service to go and live under oligarchies and kingdoms, under the lesser, the moment the winds of change blew through their city. Like old leaves and old dust they were spirited away with the summer breeze, and now the heroes of this nation are laid bare. Celiasil beds Wood Elves in Elvenesse, the blessed bookkeepers who would abandon their people have either disappeared or shovel snow in Karosgrad for a pittance to buy parchment, and after four years all the Republic has produced in a desperate attempt for a few days extension of its half-life -- for the sake of clawing its way into another hour of relevance to the High Elven people -- is this document reeking of sour grapes and shipped to Haelun'or from the abandoners' refuge in Haense. Where we walk in Larihei's shadow, our dear chroniclers of Haense would walk in the Great Abandoner Nelgauth's.
Despite its rotten foundations, as were the foundations of the Republic upon which it heaps ahistorical praise, I will not dismiss the merit of this document. It is, after all, history. History from a primary, albeit biased, source. Instead, I will focus on what makes this essay is at least somewhat accurate. The Republic was a dream. Temporary. Ephemeral. Gone without a fight or without notice from the dreamer, and only remembered by way of a journal. Nay, the Republic faded not the day the current system was signed into law, but the day the Republicans abandoned their people and left the Silver Walls to comingle with the lesser. To chase frivolous heights of corrupting pleasure abroad and, in the process, forsake the ways of purity. The High Elven Republic, the Mali'aheral Republic, the Haelun'or republic, had died long before the system that would replace it was formed. Cut away a thousand times by inefficiency, frivolousness, contests of popularity, and impurity. It was only once the crazed, enraged, degenerate children of Larihei did sacrifice the final dregs of purity and run to be among the lesser that the husk, bereft of all blood and life, finally crumbled away. Good riddance. May we remember it as the failure it was, and never again repeat it."
Othelu Orrar
Sohaer of Haelun'or and Leige of the Protectorate of Blazengard, in accordance
with the Silver Council of Haelun'or and the will of the High Elven people.
Appended to the appendix and left in the inn are the former Maheral, Ikur Sullas's, few comments.
"Vacation. Not flight. I live on the beach in a tent, because my home has been (understandably, as I have not paid taxes) repossessed. This is fine. Leadership took much out of me."
Much love,
The Second Malaurir Sullas

TO SUMMON THE MALAURIRAN
NOTE: THIS HAS HAPPENED BEFORE, DO NOT BE ALARMED
Lovely citizens of Haelun’or,
These past few Elven days have been a bit hectic, and Galanthil Elibar'acal or Maehr'indor and I have been thoroughly unable to relax with our supply of mint tea and biscuits. It is truly unfortunate. Mr. Maehr'indor is quite old, and unsuited to this sort of very spirited back-and-forth. I am, of course, not old -- more middle aged -- and markedly more suited to these situations. As is our ancient custom, when things get particularly confusing we must summon the COUNCIL OF MALAURIRAN to set things straight.
To the Malauriran of days gone by, as the previous Maheral please heed my call. We shall meet on the morrow, whenever is convenient for a good amount of us -- most likely in San'evarir, as it is a lovely venue.
For all else reading this, please listen to your lovely Silver Council in the meantime. They are democratically elected and here to serve you. Just as you allow the Malauriran to execute our traditional purpose, allow those in office to execute their constitutional imperative.
As a further clarification, Mr. Galanthil was not, in fact, ousted, but rather decided he is much too old to be bothered with a fraught political environment. In his many historic roles -- as both Evarir, Okarir'mali, son, husband, father and grandfather -- he has served admirably, and has most decidedly earned his rest.
xoxo

PROGRESS IS THE REPUBLIC IX: MAHERAL
Lovely citizens of Haelun’or, as well as anyone else who is particularly invested in our leadership or my personal hijinks,
It is the tradition of the Maheral of Haelun’or since time immemorial to appoint their own successor. Unfortunately, instead of disappearing into the aether and leaving you all guessing as to my whereabouts (as I would very much like to do), I actually have to give my two-weeks’ notice.
Nothing particularly upsetting has happened recently to cause me to quit, other than the empress dying. That was un-good. My deepest condolences to the Empire and her citizens. I will be sending a gift basket -- or perhaps one of those arrangements that are edible. Anyway, I think it is high time I close out this Maheral part of my life, lest something unfortunate happen that forces me to stick around. Nobody likes a book that drones on too long.
With that in mind: my friend of centuries, Galanthil Elibar’acal shall be my replacement until he can find someone else to pass the Maheral’s black mantle.
xoxo

Ikur Sullas, Maheral and second on the Ascended's "Do Not Bird" list, receives word of the Empress's death. He sighs a wistful, mourning sigh and laments alongside his wife, the Laurir Aiera Sullas. The two drink grieving tea. It is mint. It is not different from normal tea, only that context makes it grieving tea.
A few hours later, the "Fun Times with the Empress" scrapbook is complete, filled with transfigured images of the Imperial Princess -- and later Empress -- purchasing a stuffed Celiasil doll, losing in honorable Snail Racing, drooling in the library and laughing about assassination jokes in the way only a fellow leader-of-nations could. Ikur sighs again. He files "Fun Times with the Empress" in the Silver State's "Valah Who Were Cool" archive under "H".
also, 2 b Frank with u, Frank, ur a crackhead. IDK how u managed to do NL stuff while also being a functioning human while also helping me do my own NLing as Herathus. Boggling.

Ikur Sullas, Maheral and First Comedian of Haelun'or, squints at the missive. He nods, following the logic and appreciating the earnestness.
"No mention of my pranks! Disappointing!" he ultimately concludes.
To the drawing-board he returns.

NO ESCAPE FOR THE DILIGENT: II
(SOME EXCEPTIONS ALLOWED)
Or, less gravely,
NEW MAELUNIR ANNOUNCEMENT
The likeable Laurir Maehr'tehral has taken a extended -- possibly permanent, but nobody tells me about these things -- leave of absence from his former position as Maelunir, I must of course appoint a second one. For her diligence in duties as Tilruir'lauriran, LAURIR ANETHRA URADIR has proven herself a marvelous choice. I rescind my previous statement that Nelgauth Maehr’tehral may retire when he is dead, and now assert that Nelgauth may retire when it is appropriate. Laurir Uradir, however, may not retire until her service to the Silver State has left her an empty shell floating in the wind. Oho.

13th of Malin's Welcome, 1797 (1 SE)
To Elmali’thill of elcihi’thilln,
As the shifts of time change and we bid farewell to Laurir Dele Seregon, former guardian of health, maehr’sae is ever-lasting and must continue to be upheld.
As such, time for an election has once more come upon us, and the Haelunorian rites to self-nominate, and to vote, come to fruition across the Silver City.
To be the Okarir’hiylun of the Silver Council, one shall serve as administrator of the state’s citizenry and residences, the executive of the city clinic, the executive of the city inn.
Nominations are to be performed as per protocol. They will be delivered to the blessed Maheral or Maelunir to be entered as an electable candidate. For a nomination to be valid, the candidate will present a short speech, demonstrating how they fulfil the prerequisites to serve, along with declarations of appropriate experience.

The problem I have the most with these new systems is that it takes importance away from time spent on rp and puts it more in time spent on grinding. That means that pixels carry more value than experiences.
Further, the emphasis on grinding and “economy” foisted upon us is antithetical to the way lots of us (High Elves included) have developed our society over the years. It’s forcing us to change our culture and RP to suit arbitrary mechanics, rather than allowing us to accent our existing RP with stuff.
Also nobody talked to us (we post-scarcity super-xenophobes, yknow) before deciding to start development on these mechanics. Now not only do we have to change our rp to suit new mechanics but those mechanics were forced on us without our involvement at all.
It’s been very stressful for NLs in particular, as we have to manage all the new regioning shenanigans, mineman foreign relations, coordinate grinders, make sure people are integrated/housed/occupied with these newfangled systems, sweat this economy bull and whatnot on top of our existing duties. And this is on top of RL jobs and obligations.
Anyway stuff needs to change. Don’t get rid of vortex entirely, tho, Nickrocky put in too much effort and made something neat, it just needs work.
And community input.
edit: there's a necessity for mina-sinks in order to combat massive inflation on the server, but weekly netflix subscription to existing (or at least properly living) aint it chief it's so stressful
maybe like minas->vortex stamina iunno
