  1. Salem stepped into the Keep of Sunbreak, pacing into the great hall. He would pause, pulling the letter he found pinned to the wall free. As he read, he would find himself nodding along. Carefully, he would return the letter to its place, smiling, "Those of us who devote our lives inevitably find ourselves needing to roam. May your travels glow with the guidance of the Lord of Sunlight, Sister."

  2. To those that remained in the Grove as the others boarded their vessels to move into a new realm, they might see a strange creature, one not previously seen among the brush. An ancient, decrepit squirrel wandered through the undergrowth, albino and white as snow. To those that attempted to commune with it, he would have no words, no sentences- except one.

    "Guide owl Home."

The great-great-great-great-great grandchild of a squirrel that once graced the figure of the Owl would sit nearby, watching Taynei, Owl, and the others ready themselves. It would follow them up from the Undergrove to the Fae Ring, meandering across the stone and wooden steps with the same slowness of an old man. It slowly climbed a small tree, more a bush really, near the Fae Circle, its red eyes blinking hard with each bright flash of green. When the deed was done, it turned slowly as the waves of Druidic Energies crashed over the realm of Arcas.

Over the coming days and weeks, the abandoned Grove would be the home of a growing number of squirrels. Much like the Druids who felt the pulse of pure agony, these squirrels mourned. Though there were no eyes to see, no ears to hear, none except those of the Aspects themselves, these creatures gathered. Perhaps some working of a soul long passed through into the Eternal Forest, they cautiously wandered into the Fae Ring where Owl passed on. They filled it, day after day, with all sorts of seeds- pinecones, acorns, sweetgums, samaras, pods, and nuts. The pile grew and grew until even the mushrooms composing the circle were hidden beneath them. At last, the albino squirrel emerged once more, leading a small pack of others that carried a long lost length of wood. After centuries separated from its master, the length of a long-dead Mother Tree branch would be dead itself. An unpolished emerald sat still clasped in a claw-like vice at the top of this stick, the length covered in brown and shriveled vines. The elder squirrel would seem to direct the others to the pile, and after several moments of struggle, the Staff of the Squirrel Druid, lost to the ages yet maintained by a line of squirrels still in some ways bound to the realm beyond, was placed within the last mortal destination of the Owl Druid. An eternal monument to her memory.

    Blessed be.

OOC: Several years ago, my Druid Veren died and one of his final acts was to declare his love for the Owl Druid. I've continued to be a good friend of Delmo's since we RP'd together as Druids back then. If it's not already clear from all the RP and OOC posts above, Delmo had an incredible impact both in fiction and in reality through Arinislia. Thank you, Delmo, for your incredible RP over the years and for all the memories it left with me and others. <3

What magic(s) will you be teaching?

    Xan Deity

Describe this magic or a creature as a whole:

The Mists of Xan is an ancient art derived from the Aengul Xan, Lord of Sunlight. Paladins are bound by a set of Divine Creeds that establish a fence for their mission, namely, to stay above mortal frays and protect the Descendant races. These include noninvolvement in Descendant conflicts, pacifism toward all Descendants who are attempting to do no harm, a moratorium on damaging other Paladins, non-assistance to any ‘dark’ orders, and a guarantee that other organization involvement and religiosity does not break any other Creed.

Should a Paladin fulfill their training and swear to fulfill these Creeds, their soul shall be ‘lit’ with the Flame of Xan, allowing them to call forth the Mists. The Mists come in three varieties of color, including silver, gold, and emerald, though the color differentiation is purely aesthetic. There is a significantly rarer color of the Mists, one that only appears when directly in the presence of Xan, that being sapphire blue. In all other instances, a Paladin’s Mists will present as one of the other three colors.

The Mists are historically known for their effectiveness against all forms of Taint and especially the Dragon-kin. Though, in recent years, the Mists in their passive form do no harm, these creatures will feel uncomfortable in the presence of the Lord of Sunlight’s power. The Mists can be wielded in a number of different ways, and unlike the days of the Vindicators and Wrymstalkers, all abilities are open to every Adherent.

In a more passive way, the Mists can be utilized to form objects, whether that be clothing or elaborate stories. This ability is known as Mist Weaving. In a slightly more active form, the Mists can be used to create a calming or courage-inspiring aura, known as the Lion’s Roar. Additionally,  Paladins may create stunning-traps, known as Ambuscade Runes, and maintain up to two of these at a time. Actively in combat, the Mists may be used to form armor and shields, enhance melee weapons, provide ammunition for ranged utilities, or launch lightning-esque stunning bolts known as Sun’s Spears. Finally, Paladins are capable of creating specialized forges that allow them to imbue the Mists into objects that can accomplish certain tasks, from calming the wearer of a pendant to forming a shield separate from a Paladin’s direct control. Truly, the Lord of Sunlight provides for his followers.

On a final note, a Paladin may wield their Mists for healing and for purging. As it comes to healing, a Paladin is severely limited, only able to fully heal very minor wounds and ‘seal’ more minor wounds (which is not much better than bandaging). In terms of purging, a Paladin is much more capable, able to release the fury of the Lord of Sunlight to destroy or weaken all manner of curses.

Are there different sections or subsections of magic? Can those be elaborated upon?

While there are no formal divisions of the Mists as there were prior (Vindicators and Wrymstalkers), there is a sort of informal division between passive abilities, combat abilities, healing, and artificery. As I described above, the passive abilities include Mist Weaving, Lion’s Roar, and Ambuscade Runes. The combat abilities include Holy Affinity, Guardian’s Bulwark, Mist Weave Armor, and the Sun Spear. The healing abilities include Mist Healing and Purging. And finally, Artificery is the art of crafting weapons and objected imbued with the Mists and are capable of performing some ‘holy action’ of the Smith’s choosing, within certain limits.

Can you give an example of a casting emote, of a spell of your choice?

Salem would take a step back from the battle, taking cover behind a large rock. While the battle raged on around him, he would close his eyes- a look of utter serenity filling his features. Slowly, his mouth would move in a silent prayer to the Lord of Sunlight. When his eyes opened, the normal amber gaze would be filled entirely with a glowing silver light.

Salem rises to his feet, stepping out from behind the rock. As he did so, he would close his fists tightly and from his enclosed digits would begin to flow a steady stream of silver particles, matching the glow from his eyes. They would swirl about his form lazily, as a morning dew would settle on the field.

As Salem paced forward toward the battle, the Mists would begin to swirl about his form faster and faster, some clinging to his robes while the rest continued in their ever-growing frenzy. The Paladin would continue to confidently pace toward the conflict.

Finally, the swirl would move inward, clinging fully to the Paladin’s robes. They would expand flatward, join together, and begin to resemble iron plate armor. By the time Salem would reach the battle, a fully-formed set of semi-transparent, glowing silver armor would cover his form. He would draw his sword, rushing to join his brethren in the battle.

Can you give an example of a teaching-emote (interacting with another) of a spell of your choice?

Salem finishes removing the last piece of his plate armor, turning to his student. He’d sit down on the rug cross-legged, motioning the student across from him to join. “Now, I am going to teach you how to summon the Mists to imbue your weapon with the power of Xan. Here. Take this.” he would unsheathe a small dagger, offering it hilt first to the student. The boy would take it hesitantly, looking to Salem expectantly, “Now what?” The Elder Paladin nods once, “Hold it out in front of you and close your eyes. Look inside yourself.. deep inside. Deeper than you’ve ever looked before. Search for the source of the warmth you feel inside you, the Flame that we conjured forth in the Chancery not long ago. Then, pray to the Lord of Sunlight to channel through that Flame.. to give you his strength, and bless your weapon with his Sunlight. Understood?” The student replies haltingly, “I think so.” He would hold the dagger as directed, eyes sealing shut. A moment of silence would elapse between the two, Salem looking on critically. After a few moments of silence, the student’s hands would begin to glow with a slight emerald hue, the light pulsing up into the blade. The short length of metal would suddenly erupt into silent, pulsating emerald electricity. As soon as the power manifested, though, it would fade. The student sways slightly, brow dripping with sweat. Salem reaches forward, carefully removing the dagger and setting it aside, then supporting the student’s shoulders. He’d smile widely, “Excellent. That’s what you need to do exactly. Your stamina will improve with time. For now, rest.. we will try again when you are ready.”

Say your student powergames during or after teaching, how do you reprimand that?

This would vary depending on the situation. If it occurred between the two of us in training, I would discuss what went wrong in OOC, likely through /msg. I’d then ask to void the power-gamed action and have them try again to ensure that they understood the problem and were able to correct their mistake. I would also ask them in OOC to explain why what they did was powergaming and how they could avoid repeating the mistake in the future. If necessary to illustrate the point, I would direct them to a portion of the guide.

If the situation occurred outside of my presence with another player, I would similarly contact the student in OOC to discuss the problem. Additionally, I would contact the individual who had the encounter with the student to apologize for the confusion. I would then speak to the ST dealing with the situation if necessary and discuss any reparative action either I or the student would need to take. As before, I would go over the situation thoroughly with the student and ensure they understood their mistake and how not to repeat it.

  4. Hello! I’ve been gone off the serve for a little bit, and while I was gone I deleted an email account associated with my old forum account. (which the profile name is currently ‘Inactive Account’. I also seem to have forgotten the password, and without the email, have no way of recovering the account. The account has over 5 years of content, rep, and association with myself contained within it, so I’d like it back. If any admin/FM/whoever deals with this stuff now could help be recover it, that would be greatly appreciated!

  5. What is your Minecraft Account Name?: Conspirator_

How long have you played on LotC?: Since December of 2013

How many hours per day/week are you available?: On Discord, I’m available a good deal of time. My time online varies according to school and extracurricular activities’ schedules. I'd say around 3 hours on discord/forums, about 1 or 2 hours IG depending on the day or what's going on.

Have you read and do you thoroughly understand Magic Lore?: Indeed.

What Magic Lore do you hold the most experience with?: My expertise continues to be in Druid and Paladin lore, though I’ve held characters that were Soul Puppeteers and Evocationists as well and know the lore around both those subsects quite well.

Write about a magic-related topic that you find interesting (e.g. How mental barriers work): I find the sun spear/light spear of Paladinism quite interesting. Essentially, it’s the summoning of a very concentrated ‘bolt’ of the Mists. It is launched, of course, like a spear and is horrifically effective against flying Dragon-kin in particular. Against the lesser aerial dragon-kin, a singular spear can fell them from the skies. Against the greater dragon-kin, it is known to take several to knock them from the sky. To the grounded foes, it is less effective, though it does still deal damage and weaken their use of dark magic temporarily. Against non-blemished foes or non-dragonic foes, it is completely ineffective.

Give a Summary of any Staff/Lead positions you’ve held on any Minecraft Server in the past: I have held a position on the AT, MT (before the merger), and ET.

Do you have a Discord account? (You may post it here, or choose to keep it private until you are asked for it. Note; Discord is required to communicate with the team): You have it.
