I think those kinds of servers are awesome, as it really immerses the character and roleplayer into the world. Definitions What is roleplaying?: - Roleplaying is the act of immersing oneself in an imaginary world by developing a character and playing the role. What’s metagaming?: - Wherein a person gains IC information illegitimately (through OOC means, perhaps) and proceeds to use it IC. What’s powergaming?: - Controlling another's character. This can be trying to roleplay as another character, to forcing a condition or action upon another without giving them time to react. Most lore can be found on our wiki.): - Having grown up in New Abresi her entire life, Piper was the only child who took a passion in her father's art: Locksmithing. While her younger sister was more excited by clothing and nobility, and her elder sister had become entranced by men, Piper engrossed herself in locksmithing from a very young age. She lived and breathed metals, and absolutely loved working with it. This was the thing that set Piper apart from many other young girls her age. While many girls began focusing on travels and adventures, studies, and romance, Piper spent much of her waking time in her father's workshop. But this wasn't the only thing that caught the girl's attention, and at about the age of twelve, a new hobby came into sight: Pickpocketing. It started off with a whim. She had the necklace in her hand before she even realized she'd taken it, and an excited child scuttled away from a market stall that day, a new world opened up to her. It began to turn into a serious problem. By the time she was thirteen, she was stealing from bags and purses. At sixteen, she'd taught herself how to swallow small coins and rings in order to retrieve them later. By seventeen, she'd robbed her first house, using the tools of her trade to teach herself lock picking. A delight in all things shiny and interesting caught her eye, and she found herself taking things apart—such as clockwork toys and other things that fit together in interesting ways. While she adored the thrill of theft, it grew to the point where she would see something she wanted, and know, absolutely know, that she needed it. Eighteen was the year her life changed. She hadn't realized the woman was a noble from Arethor. All she'd seen was the broach firmly pinned to her chest, and the way it sparkled in the sunlight was absolutely tantalizing. She used her typical method to retrieve it, and very nearly escaped with the others none the wiser, when a voice called after her. She looked back, saw the guards, and disappeared into the crowd. And a day later, her description was plastered all about town alongside the other wanted posters. Already, she knew people would begin recognizing her. Her family would be put at risk. "Couldn't'che return it?" Her younger sister, Victoria, inquired, "Don' think that cain 'appen." Her father, Noah, piped in, "They're lookin' fer a bloody villain. Pip 'ent a villain, bu' a noble lass like'at don' know'at." "Think I cain 'pologize'n git off scott free?" The criminal inquired, hopefully. She was met with a series of frowns. The next morning, Piper Josephine Pim disappeared, along with a few knick-knacks from commoners who would never see them again, and a mule from the edge of town. Together, Pip and Merry—her noble steed—travel the world as vagabonds, getting by from town-to-town by bartering varied trinkets from unknown origins. Without a home and without her previous life, Piper moves along to shape a new existence for herself. What are they like? (personality): - Social: Piper is a social butterfly, always seeking out others to speak to and chatter with. She loves drinking, she loves parties, and she loves finding little reasons to celebrate. Kleptomaniac: Piper is a compulsive thief, with sticky fingers and an eye for anything interesting or exciting. She has no concerns taking possessions off of people, finding them often more valuable to herself. Masculine: She prefers to hold herself in a masculine way, insisting she isn't a lady, getting into fights, and doing things like joining the Brute Squad. In a way, Piper has to assert and define herself by her masculinity. Open: Piper wears herself on her sleeve when she isn't attempting anything illegal. She is a very open person, usually willing to shake hands, exchange names, and even share food or drinks, with people she's just met. Empathetic: When it comes to material objects, she's blind to other people's emotions. However, seeing people in pain, seeing them distraught, or even seeing them remotely unhappy, will make her feel a similar way. She cares a lot about keeping those around her happy, even if she plans to steal from them. Analytical: She sees the world around her similarly to a giant machine, and it all works or breaks in those terms. As a result, she has very detailed problem solving skills, prone to working things out from the beginning to end to ensure best results. Street-Smart: She can read people relatively well, and has lived enough to have a decent understanding of what's a good idea, what isn't, and what could get her killed. Optimistic: She believes the best outcome will always occur, no matter what, and is content with any situation in that regard. Oblivious: Piper is oblivious to social situations. While she can read people, and usually can tell if they're aggravated with her, she has a difficult time determining when she's in a detrimental situation, and will often brush it off with excuses. What are their ambitions?: - Piper doesn't hold many ambitions right now. While she loves toying with trinkets and taking what she pleases, she doesn't see herself anywhere but where she is today. Supposedly, she'd very much enjoy having a steady home and starting up her own smithing business. However, her dishonest demeanor wouldn't allow for that. Do they have any special skills? What are their weaknesses? (Try to list a few of both): - Strengths Problem Solving: The great machine which constructs her mind and creates the world around her always has ways of working out. Problems are easy enough for her to solve, as she works them out similarly to how one would work out kinks in machinery. Endurance: Or perhaps stubbornness, Piper will insist upon things and hold herself strong, no matter what. She keeps her head high, her opinion taut, and her pockets secure. Furthermore, when bad situations arise, she deals with them, taking the burden or shrugging it off as necessary. Dependability: As a result of, perhaps how stubborn she is, Piper is always dependable. If she says she'll do something, she'll damn well do it. She holds strongly to her word. The only times she isn't adamant on being dependable is when she's attempting to scam somebody. Optimism: Piper always predicts a future wherein everything will work out in her favor. While she is somewhat skeptical, and does make efforts to be cautious about short-term fortune, this optimism helps her do what she believes is moral or necessary. Weaknesses Her Inner Magpie: Anything shiny, jingly, sparkly, or even funny looking attracts her attention, and an insatiable want tends to arise. She's made kleptomania a habit and thievery an occupation, and often, Piper finds herself stealing things before she realizes she's doing it. Extroversion: Her sociability puts her at risk, bordering naivety. She doesn't mine stopping to chit chat with others, and will do so gleefully. As a result, it can stop a potential scam, put her in a dangerous situation, or just eat up valuable time. Superstitions: Fear of magic makes Piper a bit superstitious. Old jokes have merit to her. She will never jinx a project or do something too out of her usual pattern, as she worries it could change or challenge fate. Stomach/Respiratory Problems: Occasionally, something she swallows will get caught in a weird place. Piper sometimes suffers from shortness of breath and coughing, as well as stomach and digestive problems. Give us a description of how they look?: - Piper has messy, strawberry blonde hair that goes just past her shoulders in messy waves and curls. She has bright blue eyes and a roundish, soft face. Freckles are spotted across her cheeks, but her skin is otherwise fair—if not reddish in hue. While Piper is relatively short, her features are fairly doughy, with a softness at her joints, a pear shaped body with larger hips, and a build that's above-average weight. Sunburns and acne usually finds its way upon her face and arms, and a few of her teeth are missing. She typically wears the clothes she was lucky to come by—a cream colored shirt that was left unguarded on a market stall, a bodice that found its way out of a burning tailor shop, trousers that nobody expected her to pick up, and boots that came off a beggar. A satchel bag lined with fish hooks hangs at her side (to keep out thieves), and her real possessions lie tucked in the pockets of her pants.
