Vice Chancellor Elphias stood outside before the great doors of the Adamantine Cathedral, addressing the crowd of Clergy and Ordermen.

“Brethren in GOD,

It saddens my heart to announce that our beloved Clement III is abdicating the sacred Exalted Throne. However it is our duty as members of the Church to find an Apostolic Successor for our Holy Mother Church and to carry on its sacred traditions. In accordance to such, I hereby call the Members of the Synod to Marna for Conclave to select a successor for the office of Vicar of GOD.”

The Vice Chancellor then turned on his heels as the great doors of the Cathedral opened, the following Bishops marched forth in procession of chants to the Saints and Exalted, preparing for the following election.

My fellow Brothers and Sisters of the Faithful,

It is with a heavy heart I write these words that I now pen down. Since I was a boy, at the age of fourteen, I served in GOD’s Holy Church. For twenty six years I have served dutifully and faithfully to the Pontiff, Everard IV, and gave my all to him and the institution I served. When his Holiness passed away some years I go, I felt that GOD guided me to to serve him as the Head of the Faith. I still believe such, however I believe I misunderstood what he guided me to do. I believe, truly, that he called me into this position to merely keep the Church alive and flourishing, to maintain its influence and protect it from threats against our Faith. And with great effort I have done so at the cost of my health. I have kept the Church from the Abyss, I fought alongside the Faithful in the Third Crusade and against the Hordes of Undead on the fields of the Haense. I witnessed many of GOD’s Children flock to the Church to take up the cloth, from Priest to Nun. I continued the work of his Holiness Everard IV, and now, I believe it is time I step down from my position. I fully believe the Pontiff to come after me will be the one to bring the Church to new heights, a place I once dreamed I would bring it.  

Now, I ask all as my final act as High Pontiff, to pray for the Church and for my successor. May GOD guide him on his path and may he bring glory to the Creator’s name. And I hereby swear undying and unwavering loyalty to my Successor as the High Pontiff of our Faith. Amen.

Clement III stood in the Adamantine Cathedral as he heard news of this.. undead incursion against Haense. With a flick of a hand he ordered his Knights to gather the Order of Saint Lucien. With shouts of orders and direction the district became alive with activity as young men grabbed their arms and armor from the Smith.

The older Pontiff strode to his chambers and neatly folded his hands before him as he gazed at the suit of armor he wore during the Third Crusade. He signed the cross before him as he took a deep breath, a simple thought came to mind.

Brethren of the Faithful flock,

We the Pontificate are saddened with the news we must share to the faithful of the Church. An ‘Acolyte’ by the name of Lynch Tuvic-Sarkozic Ivanovich, which is known in the Kingdom Renatus and the people of Belvitz. It has come to our attention that this man has claimed to be an ordained Priest of the Canonist church, and has served as a Court Chaplain to the Kingdom of Renatus. We had spoken to this man briefly, in person and by letter, and it has been brought to light that this man was never ordained by myself or by the Bishop he claimed to be ordained by. Therefor this man was an Acolyte at best and therefore any ceremony and/or communion performed by this man in Null and Void in the eyes of GOD almighty and the Canonist Church. When we offered him to come to us and the Archbishop Novatian he flatly refused, proclaimed that it was an insult to him and to his Majesty, the King. As well as that since The Kingdom of Renatus and Belvitz look to /him/ for guidance, none in such places will go to any actual ordained Priest of the Church set to the region besides himself. However we believe the Kingdom of Renatus to be faithful to GOD and loyal to the Church, and we do not believe they support this man in any capacity since these actions taken place. 

This man is a false priest, who is not trained fully to interpret the Holy Scrolls of the Canon, and leads his followers astray from the light of GOD and his Church. It is with this and his blatant cutting of ties with our Holy Mother Church that we hereby declare Lynch Tuvic-Sarkozic Ivanovich and any followers of this man this point forward EXCOMMUNICATED from our the Most Holy Canonist Church, barred from the sacraments she administers and of the salvation she promises under Her yoke.

Let it be known, in the Year of our Lord, 1647, on the 16th of the Malin’s Welcome, the following decrees doth flow from the blessed pen of the Vicar of GOD to all the faithful and to whom it may concern:

• He called Lynch Tuvic-Sarkozic Ivanovich, heretic and blasphemer who leads good holy men astray with his words and rejects the pontifical authority of our Holy Mother Church, is declared anathema.

Proclamation of Friendship and Trust

11th of The Deep Cold, 1644

As children of the same Creator, our great Fathers Horen and Malin once worked in harmony to fight against the suffering and deprivation that had once existed in the realm. Since the initial diaspora of  brothers, attempts have been made to unite these children; To no avail previous attempts had failed due to the lack of spiritual connection stressed by the unions. In order to bring about a new synthesis of the brothers, this solemn declaration has been drafted.

"The eldest was Malin, who rose tall and fair-haired from the rich loam of the forest. And he took a likening to the beasts of the earth and the fruit-bearing trees, and resolved that his home should be a sanctuary for lesser beings." (Godfrey 1:10)

The Dominion, being the greatest sanctuary of Malin’s children on the continent of Atlas, along with the territory presided over and ministered to by the Holy Canonist Church have therefore decided to enter into a mutual agreement of friendship and trust. The goals of this declaration are to further unite GOD’s children and keep them away from the division which the Isolator so greatly fonds.

"So Iblees went out of the land of Horen’s people, and set to working iniquity among the other brothers. So he went into their camps in other guises, and he tempted them with sin, and said the Lord pardoned them for their faith." (Godfrey 2:7)

As a symbol of good will, Prince Khaine had sent the Canonist Kingdoms of Atlas the location of a Site that would pique our interest. In such, the Church has sent the Order of Saint Lucien to discover these ruins and its origins. In conclusion the Order has discovered the remnants of a old Church-like structure that predates our Holy Mother Church. We take this as the kindness that it is and the Church calls upon all its members and faithful to show locations of Pre-Elven sites that may be found scattered around the Continent. As we both share a common ancestor, it is only fitting to aid our brothers as we would ourselves. This unselfish spirit shall mark a new age in relations with the Dominion and its citizens.

Together- and only together- can we achieve the peace and harmony in this world to create an everlasting paradise between The Church and the Dominion, to create a land we can inhabit together as the Creator intended. It is the Church's stance that the Sons and Daughters of Malin should not be shunned but embraced in opens arms as friends and comrades, as together we all have a common enemy. An enemy that is both one and legion; Iblees and the abominations he plagues us both with.

The Sun was high in the sky during the afternoon, shining brightly against the rooftops and streets of Marna during the Conclave, perhaps a sign of what was to come. Bells soon began to toll throughout the city as news spread, the great doors of the Adamantine Cathedral bursted open for all to see.


The Archbishop Bernard stands beside the Pontiff-Elect; he then begins to recite the Prayer of Penitence

we have wandered and strayed from your ways
like lost sheep.
We have followed too much the devices and desires
of our own hearts.
We have offended against your holy laws.
We have left undone those things
that we ought to have done;
and we have done those things
that we ought not to have done;
and there is no health in us.
But you, O Lord, have mercy upon us sinners.
Spare those who confess their faults.
Restore those who are penitent,
according to your promises declared to mankind
in Horen our Lord.
And grant, O most merciful Creator, for his sake,
that we may live a disciplined, righteous and godly life,

It is then when Jack of Mardon, Archbishop of Rhodesia, was presented to the clergy, bearing an immaculate white frock and scarlet mozzetta.

Archbishop Bernard continued; “With the Lord Creator our witness and guide, it has been divined that the Most Reverend Cardinal-Bishop, Jack of Mardon, born Jack Amador, has been willed to fulfill the seat of the Church Pontificate. Do you heed the call of Our Creator to bear this vocation?

“I do so believe.”

“You have been ordained in our church, your household names forsaken and your life devoted in sole service to the teachings of our Creator. The vows of your past vocations remain firm; now you must make the declaration of assent.”

Archbishop Bernard then reads the Assent, preserved from a different time.

“The Church of Faithful is the One, Holy and Rightful Church of the Creator , worshiping the one true God, The Creator. It professes the faith uniquely revealed in the Holy Scrolls and set forth in the Faithful creeds, which faith the Church is called upon to proclaim afresh in each generation. Led by the Holy Light, it has borne witness to Faithful truth in its historic formulates, the Articles of Faith, The Book of Saints. In the declaration you are about to make, will you affirm your loyalty to this inheritance of faith as your inspiration and guidance under God in bringing the grace and truth of Horen to this generation and making Him known to those in your care?”

“I, Jack Amador, do so affirm, and accordingly declare my belief in the faith which is revealed in the Holy Scrolls and set forth in the Faithful creeds and to which the historic formularies

of the Church of The Creator bear witness; and in public prayer and administration of the sacraments, I will use only the forms of service which are authorized or allowed by Canon.” replied Jack.

Do you accept the Holy Scrolls as revealing all things necessary for eternal salvation through faith?

"I do so accept them."

"Will you be diligent in prayer, in reading Holy Scrolls, and in all studies that will deepen your faith and fit you to bear witness to the truth of the Word?"

"Will you lead your people in proclaiming the glorious Word of Horen, so that the good news of salvation may be heard in every place?"

"Will you teach the doctrine of Horen as the Church of Faith has received it, will you refute error, and will you hand on entire the faith that is entrusted to you?"

"Will you be faithful in ordaining and commissioning ministers of the Church?"

Will you be gentle and merciful for Horen’s sake to those who are in need,

To cleanse all that is in contradiction to the canonical order, should such appear; to guard the Holy Canons and Decrees of our Saints and Pontiffs as if they were the divine ordinance of Heaven, because I am conscious of Thee, whose place I take through the Grace of God, whose Vicarship I possess with Thy support, being subject to severest accounting before Thy Divine Tribunal over all that I shall confess;

I swear to God Almighty and the Favored son Horen that I will keep whatever has been revealed through Horen and His Successors and whatever the Saints and my predecessors have defined and declared.

I will keep without sacrifice to itself the discipline and the rite of the Church. I will put outside the Church whoever dares to go against this oath, may it be somebody else or I.

If I should undertake to act in anything of contrary sense, or should permit that it will be executed, Thou willst not be merciful to me on the dreadful Day of Divine Justice.

Accordingly, without exclusion, We subject to severest excommunication anyone -- be it Ourselves or be it another -- who would dare to undertake anything new in contradiction to this constituted Tradition and the purity of the Faith and the Faithful religion, or would seek to change anything by his opposing efforts, or would agree with those who undertake such a blasphemous venture."

As his oath come to close, Bernard washes the face of Jack and anoints his forehead with scented oils.

"Cleansed of worldly taint, you are reborn in the Creator's vision. Your heart blessed in the eternal compassion and truth of Horen; your soul aflame with the benevolent justice and fervor of Owyn; your body awash with the incredulous miracles and charisma of Godfrey; your mind attuned to the unworldly wisdom and vigor of Siegmund."
 

Bernard then garbs Jack in the pontifical cloth, and bestows the pontifical ferula.


"By this you are known to all as preserver of truths and lord spiritual."

"I announce a great Blessing; we have a new Pontiff!"
The Most Eminent and Most Reverend Jack Amador, High Pontiff of the Canonist Faith who takes to himself the name:

CLEMENT III

Jack sat in silence for sometime, taking time to control his breathing before standing up to look upon the faces of the Synod.

“Brothers.. I stand here today because GOD guided me to his Holiness one faithful day. I was a boy of Fourteen and had no place in the world. I had fought in a single battle and was spared Death. I taveled throughout Mardon and I happened to stumble upon his Holiness, and he took me in. He gave me some food and we spoke at length about GOD. It was that day I gave my life to GOD and his Church. For twenty one years I have served faithfully, and have been ARchbishop of Adelburg for most of my time as a Priest.”

Jack chuckled a moment, thinking back on it.

“I served the People of the old Empire well. I spoke to the Nobles and Commoners, to soldiers to farmers, to Soldiers to Heathens. I made strides to bring people to the light of GOD and have been overall rather successful. Bring countless members into the Church’s ranks from Priests, Monks, and Nuns. This past decade or so I served as Vice Chancellor of Holy Mother Church and helped organize and deal wth issues regarding the Church. I held meetings with other parties and Faiths in the name of the Church. I made strides for the Church to be recognized in other places of the world, in other Kingdoms and Nations. His Holiness and I had many talks at night, about the world and GOD. What is occurring and present circumstances. I stand before you all and I must admit.. I am terrified. The mere idea of being elected terrifies all. It is not a position one desires or should covet. It is a position that GOD calls us too. We are sworn to let GOD guide our hands to write down a name. So we shall do. I tell you know before GOD almighty and my peers here, if I was called to his position I would continue on the work of His Holiness Everard. I will reorganize the Clergy to make sure all are able to hear the word of GOD, from here in Marna to every dark corner of this new land. To protect the Church and defend its institutions from harm from those that seek to tear us down stone by stone. But also keep my arms open to embrace those that seek the Light of GOD. For if we meet with just the sword then we harm more than we save. We shall hold the sword and yet the olive branch. Mercy and Love. Faith and Order is what I promise to you.. May GOD grant me the strength if he so calls me.”

And with that, Jack signed the cross before him and took a sheet of paper, writing a name upon it and muttered a silent prayer to himself before dropping the note into the box.

After the Archbishop Jack did the last rites to his Holiness, and sent the news of the High Pontiff's death, he managed to get some solitude in his own rooms. The older man merely stood there with back to the door, shocked at the day's events. After a few moments.. he merely fell to his knees with a loud thud, weeping into his hands at the loss of his mentor. The final days of his Holiness' life all Jack could think was when he was fourteen, and it was Everard that took him into the Church and taught him the ways of GOD.
