  2. A small man squats above the gutted carcass of a deer in a nameless swamp at the edge of the world.  The spear of light in the distance caught his attention, but it was the dull roar that shook leaves from the trees that caused a wry smile to spread across his face for the first time in... Lords, it must have been years.  He tore a strip of bloody meat from the corpse and chewed thoughtfully.

“War on the earth ‘n dragons in the skies... Just like old times, ain’t it?”  He chuckles to himself before returning to the task at hand.

  3. This is a really interesting idea, and I’ve always been a sucker for giant runestones. That being said, from what I can see there are a handful of issues with the lore that jump out at me when I read it.

    1.  Every good deity magic has a strong aengudaemon behind it. They need a place in the universe, and the magic should reflect not only their domain, but their personalities and goals in the material realm. Garumdir seems interesting in concept, but there is not much meat on the bone when it comes to what exactly his goals are. Why did the daemon create these stones, and why would he give away portions of his power to mortals?  You state that he did so to ‘protect his great works’, but that does not exactly say much.
    2. The abilities that come with this magic seem a bit broad. The Lore Team is generally very hesitant when it comes to accepting disciplines that can do a little bit of everything.  From what I can see here, you are trying to paint with a bit too broad of a brush in terms of abilities.  Also, no time shenanigans.  Take it from me, anything that manipulates time is just begging to be abused.
    3. A lot of aspects of this lore seems similar to Runesmithing, which is an existing magic that has much of the same flavor as this one. Like Jenny said above, I would suggest that if you are looking for something along these lines that already exists, you should reach out to the community and see what their thoughts on the matter are.

In all, I feel like something like this has potential, but you have a long ways to go.  I can’t see this being accepted in its current state (especially considering the complete restructuring of magic that is currently in the works) but that does not mean that something like this could never be implemented. Keep writing, and I’m sure you’ll come up with something special.

  4. In the depths of a swamp a robed figure sits, alone with nothing but its thoughts.  Even so far out into the wilderness, word of Nin's death had reached the ears of the creature called Shamblebones.  A dry voice, like stone rasping against steel, breaks the silence that so often filled the mire.

    "And so, one more falls..."

    Staff History

I have not been a member of any staff team to date.

    Ban History

I have never been banned from either the server or the forums.

    Blacklist History:

I have not been blacklisted for any reason.

What do you want to join the Event Team?

I have always been interested in collaborative storytelling. There is something special about telling a story with other people involved - Even when everything goes off the rails, the end result is a truly unique creation, something that one person alone could never come up with. I am curious to see what I can do when I work behind the curtain this time. I would like to write stories that people can interact with, and collaborate with people who wish to do the same.

Why should we accept you onto the Team?

I am a decent writer, and fairly experienced when it comes to roleplay. As a member of the Event Team, I feel I could offer interesting and memorable experiences to the community. I am also open to working with people to create events specific to a group or area. I would love to provide interesting roleplay opportunities to people who feel they are being left out of the fold, and work with players on an individual level to create the best experience possible for all involved.

What kind of events do you aspire to create?:

I enjoy writing on all ends of the fantasy spectrum, from dark, grim fantasy to comedic satire more akin to a Terry Pratchett novel. Some of the most fun I have had on the server has been while wandering the roads, and I would like to continue to do so as a member of the ET, serving up events when they are least expected. When I played a ghoul, I learned just how effective one marauding corpse could be in creating an enjoyable scenario on both ends.

    What makes a good event?

Good writing quality, clear emotes, and interesting environments all go into creating a memorable event. However, above all this is adaptability. In an environment like this, a good event has to be able to function even when the players refuse to follow the laid out itinerary. If they want to stab the mysterious old man instead of listening to his quest, you had better have a backup plan. Nothing ruins a good time quite like railroading, and it is more important for characters to interact with others than it is for them to follow a specific plan.

Create three in-depth event scenarios. I’m not looking for some prelude or whimsical idea here -- we want an indicator as to your talent and potential to be on the ET. You don’t need to write a word-for-word script, but we want a solid structure and plan as to how you’d organize and carry out an event:

The Hunt for Sinobah of the Storm

Sightings of a group of men, dressed head to toe in piecemeal armor, sweep through the land.  The group goes by many names, and many bounties hang over their heads, but the reports all agree on one thing:  They are armed, and extremely dangerous.  The pack is lead by a woman - One who calls herself Sinobah of the Storm.  Rumors call her a witch, a woman who sold her soul for mastery over the wind and rain.  By being meaner, tougher, and scarier than all others, Sinobah has managed to unite the bandits of the land into a unified fighting force.  As their numbers grow, so too does the savagery of their attacks.

The bounty placed on Sinobah is considerable, but there are more pressing concerns to deal with.  Groups of brigands roam the land, using the name to spread fear throughout the countryside.  Small knots of men begin haunting the roads, taking anything that is not nailed down and terrorizing smaller settlements.  In each encounter, the men allude to a camp, hidden someplace out in the wilderness, from which they operate.  In time, the camp is located - either by players, or through an official bounty board posting - and the planning begins.  Attacks on the camp are met with hordes of savage, unwashed men and the terrifying evocations of the witch herself.

Players would then be embroiled in a small-scale PvE event inside the walls of the bandit camp, and from there will have to face down Sinobah of the Storm, and a handful of the more vicious cutthroats the camp has to offer in an RP-based battle.  Victory hinges on the party's skill, integrity, and numbers - If they fall, Sinobah will certainly rise to power once more, and continue her reign of terror until challenged again.

    The Red Avenger

As travelers wander down the roads at night, they may pass by a certain swamp.  From between the trees on the roadside slides a black-haired man draped in a thick red cloak and an iron mask.  He names himself Dante Sorrowslash, and carries a pair of strange, curved swords at his side.  Those who have the misfortune of encountering the masked man are met with drawn blades and a heart-wrenchingly tragic backstory involving a pair of orcs, a burned home, and a child who was raised by wolves.  Attentive travelers would come to notice that the foreboding voice is coming not from the strange warrior, but from a bush on the side of the path.  Further inspection would reveal Dante for what he truly is - An illusion conjured up by the wizened old halfling hiding in the shrubbery.

The hobbit, who goes by the name of Grandy Witherwood, explains that Dante is one of his creations.  He retired to the swamp to find solace and peace, but was instead greeted by noisy, disruptive merchants and mercenaries constantly passing through.  He invented the character Sorrowslash in an effort to scare off intruders but as is plainly evident, that plan backfired spectacularly.  With no other option, the old halfling attempts to bribe the travelers with a selection of enchanted baubles, all while extracting promises to never speak of him to anyone else.

    The Tragic Anvil

Buried in the heart of the Orcish desert is a weathered anvil.  When stumbled across a wide, rusted grin breaks the surface of the iron, and the object begins to speak.  It claims to be the vessel of a lesser spirit of creation, and implores its discoverer to carry it to a forge so that it may craft objects once again.  From there, it is up to the players to decide what to do with the anvil - They can either drag it to their settlement, or leave it in the desert for the next wanderer to stumble across.

If the anvil is ever used, the quality of the objects will far surpass the user's ability, as if the tool is somehow guiding their swings.  However, they all share one disturbing quality - bad luck seems to follow the holder at every turn:  Arms and armor forged on its surface are destined to break at the most inopportune time, jewelry clasps will come undone, even something as inconsequential as an iron nail crafted on the anvil will work its way free of the wood it is buried in.

An astute blacksmith may notice that with each forging the anvil grows slightly heavier, eventually rendering it nearly impossible to shift.  The spirit inhabiting the anvil grows in strength alongside its weight, and its true purpose soon becomes clear:  Every item crafted upon the anvil's rusted surface gives it a bit more strength.  By intentionally sabotaging its own works, the spirit is able to keep smiths coming back to it to forge them anew.  From there it is up to the owners to decide what to do with the object, whether that means smashing at its stubborn surface with hammers, or perhaps casting it into the desert to be found by another unfortunate soul.

  6. An old, grizzled man wanders the roads of Atlas.  Every traveler he passes is asked a similar question:

"I'm lookin' for th' type o' person who ken replace a missing hand.  I ain't usually one t' look for help from wizards, but y'know what they say about desperate times, aye?"

  7. 10 minutes ago, ThatWeirdGirl said:

Doesn't he get banned and lash out at staff members near constantly? There's a difference between being short tempered and reactive (I can admit I am both) and being toxic.

I think the main issue with this ban is the circumstances surrounding it, not the target.  The administration took a private conversation that was not officially associated with LoTC, and used it as ammunition against a troublesome player.  The fact that evidence of that sort was used as leverage against iMattyz is a problem, because it sets a dangerous precedent for banning players in the future.

  8. I think the lore is solid, but I think there is a serious issue with the implementation of a death counter for undead creations.  the 'three death' limit is extremely restrictive and, ironically, in a way makes the relentless hordes of the undying more vulnerable than the people they fight against.  Limits like these are mechanical restrictions that are frustrating to work around, especially with a playerbase like Spooks who often serve as antagonists.
