Definitions
What is roleplaying?: Some would say it's like having another persona. I could agree to that. That persona most of the time can be, then, put into a character. You would most likely base the appearance of your character off of their personality traits and occupations.. as well as their actions. And all of that combined, one could also place them in a certain time period or event.
What is metagaming?: I would say that metagaming is sort of like taking your character's ambitions/goals as well as their OWN knowledge, and basing their actions and choices off of that. You could also base them off of obstacles, weaknesses, or past events. As well as, your character's knowledge, and your own knowledge are two different things. So if you know an event is about to happen, but your character does NOT, you would have to play along with that, as your character cannot know something is about to happen. That is.. without clues, events, or hints given IN the story itself.
What is powergaming?: In a nutshell, this would be where the player would make their character seem almost undefeatable or unable to be harmed, giving them unfair advantages.
-In-Character Information-
Character’s name: Lanii Avarayne
Character’s gender: Female
Character’s race: Halfbreed Wood Elf/High elf
Character’s age: 157 years
Biography: In 1324, Lanii Avarayne was born in a sacred forest 8 miles west of the, now established, silver city of High Elves. Although her father was High Elf, and her mother WoodElf, the High Elves would not so kindly welcome Lanii, even as a mere child. When she was 14, her father tried to enroll her in school within the other High Elves. But, being different from the rest made being social with her own kind difficult. They snickered and sneared, for her skin was pale like their's, but her hair a dark brown, and her height a little shorter. Sometimes even the teacher would look at her sternly.. some even asking to have her pulled out of their lessons.
After 4 unbearable years, she finally moved out of the town ruled by High Elves, with her own father not even trying to stop her, and ran to the homestead in which her mother lived. Her parents were not.. always getting along.. Her mother strong on her beliefs with Malin, and her father sticking his nose up often. And so she made her decision to live with and help her mother in the forest for 87 years. Being one of very few of the younger elves, she was welcomed back kindly. But given her racial mix.. not many of the men in the woodlands would find interest in her as she got older, either. She thought maybe if she met one of the Mali'fenn, she might actually find a permanent friend. Unlikely, she thought.
However, this didn't really bother her much, for her interest in finding a significant other lacked, and so she focused more on her productivity. As her mother had been too busy working small jobs to pay off debts, Lanii took it upon herself to learn archery, and animal tracking from a family friend, as well as welding/blacksmithing. By age 94, she could almost catch anything she wanted, with her own weapons, too. Although her mother passed away 2 years later, she died happy knowing her daughter was able to fend for herself.
At age 105, she finally sold her land for a handsome price, allowing her to have a home of her own, maybe rather closer to the silver city so she may be able to fetch more supplies and/or potions. Just a few months after living in her new home, she found herself watching as High Elves would wander the paths of the forest in search for supplies such as firewood, cooking herbs, and brewing herbs. However, she always tried to stay hidden when she would see them. Though, she thought it funny to confuse them as they walk, and hear the sounds of her playing her flute, and with the same elves, the same song.
Between ages 123 and 129 she found her new interest at the sea. She decided to join with some of her mother's old friends one their fishing trips. Though she was never quit good at fishing, nor really enjoying the food it brought, she found a passion in sailing. This gave her a large amount of experience with her trading skills. She visited Holm for a few weeks. She met a few mercenaries there who gave her more information and insight about the community and quality of life in Alras. She seeked more adventure, and so the lifestyle and jobs of a mercenary fascinated her. She visited Alras at age 136, but to stay there for 5 years for basic combat training. At age 141, she started to be sent on several missions in Salvus and the Kingdom of Renatus. Mostly, however, for mere unpaid debts from humans. Though it wasn't the adventure she was seeking, it paid well, and so she didn't complain. Soon enough, with more than enough money, she decided to return home to the forest when she was 145.
One night, at age 152, she caught site of a male High Elf walking slowly through the forest while she was hunting. His name, was Satone Yelfrik. He looked at the ground all around him, mumbling to himself. She approached him, asking if there was something he was looking for. Fortunately for him, she did have a few of the things he was searching for. Being invited, she brought her supplies, and walked with him to his campsite. They traded, as well as he kindly offered her tea. She was rather surprised.. a High Elf.. treating her as if she is normal in his eyes. In over a year their visits became more frequent. He would sometimes teach her a few minor combat strategies, and in return she would catch him food and bring him the supplies for his alchemy studies. Soon after, they would travel together, keeping each other company and protecting one another. Her feelings for him had began to change when she was 153. Almost as if she were falling in love with him gradually.
Personality Traits: Independant, Kind, Creative, Sometimes reckless.
Ambitions: Hoping to be a Mercenary for more dangerous tasks as well as a Sailor to seek more adventure in her life. She also seeks to, someday, live in a nation where half-breeds are welcomed and treated as equals.
Strengths/Talents: Playing the flute, hunting, making one-handed weapons, and persuading. She prefer's night over day (easier travel and hunting without disturbance). Her tolerance with ale is rather high, as well. Can match most of the birds of the forest to their sounds.
Weaknesses/Inabilities: Skin is easily sunburned, as well as she can easily be fatigued in heat. Isn't welcome in most High Elf-ruled Nations or Settlements, lowering her chances of finding places to sleep and dine when traveling.
