    The Levy of Garenbrig
    Vassal of Numendil

    Honor and Duty

The Levy of Garenbrig, being a levy raised to serve Tar-Caraneth and her holdings, follows much the same doctrine as the capital soldiery.
Derived from the Barrowton Guard, defenders of the March, protectors of Canondom,

guardians of the people. Their purpose true and bound, the Guard protects Numendil, the glorious white City of Numenost, and all other holdings of the Tar. It is the driving force behind the fist of the Tar and their Knights.
The Levy of Garenbrig serves mostly to protect the western watches of Numendil, the cliffs bordering the dead Oasis, and the rugged Hills of Garenrbrig.

As written by Ser Garen Glennmaer, Captain of Numendil, every Numenedain soldier is expected to take on the following duties:

    Uphold the Peace.

    Keep Safe the Gate.

    Keep Safe the People.

    Hunt the Darkspawn.

    Slay the Beast.

    Help Thy Comrade.

    Serve Thy Liege-Lord.

Cleanse the land of all its Darkness.

    Rations and Wages

To Serve Numendil does not come without thanks. Food, Bed, Board and Wages will be provided every saint’s week to each guard and knight. Exceptional performance warrants promotion, and further benefits. Guards may be heightened to the rank of Serjeant, and entitled to higher wages and command over lower ranks, though these promotions are optional and come with plenty more responsibility. Those include training lower ranks, and organizing their trappings and rations.

Knights are entitled to further pay, should they deem necessary, though many opt for none.

    From Knight to Noble

It is not uncommon for the Canonist denizen to wish for more, to strive for Greatness.
Knighthood is the most Reliable path when one's Goal is to achieve Nobility in the eyes of GOD and their fellow man.

In Numenost, when a Knight attains the Position of a "Knight of the White Court", they are at a prime position to begin their ascent. In Garenbrig, the Knights are given much the same treatment.

For it is the Code of Chivalry that Knights live by, and it is this code that Allows for Greatness, and Encourages the Betterment of the Self.

Like House O'Rourke, Seregon, Glennmaer, and Arthalionath; Greatness can be achieved through Determination and Loyalty.

    Trappings and Ranks

Harkening back to the days of Old, when good King Uther ruled the humble hold of Barrowton, a beacon of light in a wretched Abyss, the Host of Formindon practice traditions of comradery, humility, honor and duty, much like their counterparts in the capital of Numenost.

With a home-town much steeper, wetter, and rough, the soldiers of Garenbrig, as well as their Knights, wear lighter and somewhat looser armor, leaving joints somewhat less encumbered to facilitate mobility on a harsh terrain.

Classical, tried and true armor of Plate, Mail, Gambeson and Surcoats. Large Greathelms, bearing the Cross of Lorraine and Horen, and reliable weaponry lacking excess adornment. What trim they bear is of bronze, instead of gold, for the aurum is far better suited to crafting the tools to hunt the dark. Adorn your trappings with Bronze, and you are given ample excuse to keep shiny. A green trim means a lazy Glennmaer.

    Guardsmen

    image-2024-04-12-220927548.png
A Garenbrig Guardsman charging headfirst into a host of Ratiki squatters

Guardsmen of Garenbrig are the core of the Levy. Loyal, well-trained, and well fed. Where one might expect a levyman in a feudal dwelling to eat his bread and drink his water, the Glennmaers know all too well that a hungry soldier is a dead one.

Dressed in the Surcoat of House Glennmaer, bearing their resolute tower, the Guardsmen of Garenbrig are expected to be steadfast and enduring, as the words of House Glennmaer encourage. `Do and Endure`.

No expense is spared in arming the levy. Whereas hosts of old might deem one man important, and the next cannon-fodder, the Formindon warband is armed to keep themselves alive, and swinging.

    Knights

A Garenbrig Knight posing for his portrait in the halls of Formindon, accompanied by his leal hound, "Corpsegrinder", and his trusty steed, "Binky"

Knights of Formindon and Garenbrig are expected to hold themselves as any other Knight of Numendil. Uphold the law, follow the scrolls and the code of chivalry to the letter.

To be a Knight is to present ones self as the finest Humanity has to offer. Whilst a Guardsman can be an adept fighter, a Knight must also be wise. Cunning. Compassionate. Respectful. Pious.
All these things and more must you show before you can ascend to the rank of Knight, and wear your own heraldry. Ride atop your own Elcir, and fight in not just the name of Numendil, but your own.

THE BANISHMENT OF ONE: HUMMINGBIRD AND NENAR, DRUIDS AND APOSTATES

The druids named thus are hereby banished from the Kingdom of Numendil, an all it's holdings. Lords/ladies of Numenedain vassals are to uphold this law as written:

The Druids known as Hummingbird and Nenar, are to be removed from the lands of Numendil and its Vassals, should they be found within them. Should they refuse to comply, they will be put to the sword with no excepton. Heresy will not be tolerated to any degree, show no leniency. They have one chance.

  3. At the foot of the Willow in Formindon's courtyard, Glyn emptied a patch of ground. The shovel cast aside, he arranged the armor of his friend out, along with his sword, as if he were there, clutching the blade close to the empty chest plate.

"Here you lie a hero of Formindon. Perhaps not in body, but in spirit. Your surcoat will lie here, your heraldry forever woven into the fabric of this good green land.

Your banner shall be entrusted to another, I will not let thy name die. The red and gold shall fly wherever we ride, in the name of GOD, and the radiant star. Forever will you be a part the roots of my home, and from your virtue shall sprout the peace we all strive for."

The Knight Commander rose then from his knees, taking up his shovel, before covering the armaments of his fallen friend.

  4. Commander Glyndwr entered his office. He slapped some parchments down onto the desk, pouring over them. Schedules, inventory, reports. Guards to be added. Guards to be removed. Funeral pyres and alchemical orders. A hard day, but not the worst. He pulled a bottle from his desk, Grandaxe Whiskey, pouring two cups, sliding one to the end of the desk.

"You not drinking tonight?" He asked across the room, the words bouncing around the otherwise empty walls. A moment of silence, realization, as he absent-mindedly wrote away like any other day, before looking up.

An empty couch, a dying fire. Paintings lining the wall and a statue of his Father's bust, all bought and sourced for him. By Her. The Princess who so often kept him company as he grumbled away in that office, away from whatever troubles waited outside.

A sigh, flowing from his nostrils as he chewed his inner lip, worry laden across his face. This night, the parchments would be the distraction, as the untended fire faded and the room grew cold.

    I am LECTOR.

That's right! My opinion matters most here since 80% of modern people who do spook testing read my minecraft book and now they bang blocks together like a primitive who learned that fire is hot! That's right, I've seen all of you with my book in your libraries! That's right, I've seen you Haensemen who made a plagiarized doc with the only new content being added images!

To this day you still come to my cozy Japanese weeb city and go:  "ERM, LECTUR, PLEASE TELL ME HOW TO KILL DEMON! IT NOT IN DA BOOK!"

Aurum testing is fine as it is, players are just cringe and like to test without zero prompt. That said, you little spook people give me plenty of reasons to test you! You look like Hot Topic Emos. You spout esoteric Xion slop. You openly defend weird bloodsucking bat people. You try to slander guards and holies. You nerdpost everything. Frankly, no one likes the cut of your jib but yourself! The Dark RP you seek to generate isn't real it's a mask for power fantasy.

Be more discreet and you won't be tested as often. Aurum just requires deep cuts and you can play it off by going "OWIE ZOWIE THAT STUNG OWIE" because you just got deeply cut. Peter Griffin seethed for a whole thirty seconds because he tripped and bumped his knee.

TL;DR players shouldn't test without prompt but spooks are delusional if they think they give zero prompt because their entire chosen personality and aesthetic are red flags.

    Realist thing i've ever read.

What magic(s) will you be teaching?

             Alchemy

Describe this magic or a creature as a whole:

Alchemy involves the process of crafting potions and other alchemicals, enabling those who posess knowledge to extract desired symbols from raw reagents gathered throughout Aevos, and combine them into useful substances. This extraction is achieved through different methods, encompassing both mundane and elemental methods, e.g. air, fire, water, earth. These substances that are created from said symbols are generally recognized within the alchemical community, but some are specifically taught to Alchemists from more specialized collections, e.g. Oyashiman Makeover.

Are there different sections or subsections of magic? Can those be elaborated upon?

Alchemy is a process that is made up mainly of three seperate steps. The first step is to extract the specific symbols required for the intended Alchemical. These symbols must first be identified, however, usually by looking at the written recipe for said alchemical. Once the symbols and signs have been identified in the recipe, the Alchemist must then identify teh herbs that hold said signs and symbols. This can take varying amounts of time depending on the Alchemist's education level. (In terms of Alchemical Education).

Extraction can be done in multiple ways, depending on the symbols required. For example, if a recipe calls for a certain symbol to be extracted with the "air" method, one must extract it specifically this way. The same goes for Fire, Earth and Water. If a sign/element is not specified, or specified to be Aether, the extraction method is that of Mundane/Aether.

Mundane/Aether Extraction: Grind the reagents down in a mortar and pestle. Saturate the ground mixture with aqua vitae. Any reagents that are of liquid form will be mixed with aqua vitae instead. If Aether symbols are being extracted, an aurum ladle must be used. Filter and then boil any mixtures, until powder remains. From this mixture, the symbols required can be identified and seperated, so that they may be used for crafting an alchemical.

Fire Extraction: Dry the reagents. Reduce dried reagents into a dust, through cutting, grinding, crushing or shredding. Set mixture alight. Reduce to ash. The symbols required can then be identified and plucked from said ash.

Earth Extraction: Crush, cut, grind or shred reagents. Grind together with salt equating to half the amount of reagents within the mortar. Sieve the salt from the mixture, and then identify and pluck out the required symbols.

Water Extraction: Solid reagents must be saturated with distilled water whilst raw. Then, crush reagents until a mush. If the reagent is a liquid, mix with distilled water. Poor over a dish, allow to evaporate over one narrative day. Symbols can then be identified and extracted from this.

Air Extraction: Dry reagents, then crush into a thick powder. Compress the reagents within a small space, such as a bellowed compression box. Compress, then decompress the powder, before blowing out onto a dish via the use of bellows. Identify and seperate required symbols from the powder blown onto the dish.

Once extraction is achieved, the Alchemist can then mix the symbols in the required manner to create their desired alchemical. Various bases can be used to mix alchemicals together, and said base often requires specific processes when mixing. E.g. some oils may require a cold mix, other bases might require heating etc. Somtimes, symbols must be added in a specific order, often to prevent symbols from mixing directly without any buffers, often causing reactions that vary in severity.

Some mixing methods can only be taught, and written recipes are not enough. These recipes also are usually accompanied by specific processes that are not included in core Alchemy. This alchemy is referred to as "Further Alchemy", and includes alchemical practices such as "Tawkin".

Other recipes labelled as "rare" are not common knowledge, and must be taught, though they are not considered further alchemy and are easier to learn.

Can you give an example of a casting emote, of a spell of your choice?

Galadain made his way downstairs into the Scholarium's alchemical lab. He looked over the recipe for a Tanglefoot potion, reminding himself.

"Two growth... three curtailment... one rigidity... and two earthen connection." He muttered to himself, before looking through the ingredients in their storage.

    He procured from the boxes:

Two pieces of Ameriddle, two pieces of paddfoot, and a piece of beardweed.

He walked over to the table, retrieving his mortar and pestle, and setting aside one piece of Ameriddle. He then placed the rest of the ingredients into the mortar, and ground them together until well mashed and mixed. Once finished, he placed the ingredients into a flask of aqua vitae, saturating them in the liquid, before boiling them down into a fine powder. He then took the last piece of Ameriddle, and ground it down into a dust, before adding half it's mass in salt into the mortar. He then ground the salt and ameriddle together, until well mixed, before sieving out the salt and placing the remnants onto a seperate dish. Galadain then took out his magnifying glass, before identifying from his mixtures:
"Two growth... three curtailment... one rigidity... and two earthen connection." He repeated, plucking out said symbols.

He then placed said symbols into a flask of water, before bringing it to a boil, letting out cool, and corking it up. On he glued a small piece of parchment, labelling it.

Can you give an example of a teaching-emote (interacting with another) of a spell of your choice?

"Right..." Galadain began, moving to sit himself down at his station, grunting as he did, like all fathers do. "We'll start your more practical teachings by making a potion, because in my experience, doing is far more informative than hearing."

Galadain procured from the draw of the desk:
A magnifying glass, a dish, a mortar & pestle, and some tweezers.

"Now," he continued, "We'll be making a Luminosity potion, because that's what I learned first, and I managed."

He then layed out, on the desk in front of the student, a piece of parchment, listing the recipe of a luminosity potion.

"Go into the storage, and find for me some reagents we can use." He instructed, as the student got up to search.

When the student returned, Galadain would look over the reagents, and correct the student where needed. However, the student would have already been taught about signs and symbols, thus this should be an easy task. ((For this case, the student would have brought back a bit of Nightglow and Aqua Nymph.

"Now, first we must extract the symbols we need from these reagents." He began, setting the reagents down before the student, along with his knife, a mortar, and a pestle.
"Chop and then crush it all up in the mortar with the pestle." He instructed then, watching the student go at it. "Now," He said, the student procuring their mixture, "pop it all into the flask of Aqua Vitae we have here." Galadain gestured then to the flask suspended upon the brewing stand.

Once the student had successfully poured in their mixture, Galadain moved to light the small furnace beneath it. "Now we must boil it down until a powder. This will take some time, so erh... let's play 'I spy' or something."

The studen and teacher proceeded to argue whether or not silent letters counted, which of course they do, before they both noticed the flask had boiled fully, the thick powder remaining in the flask. With an "Oop", Galadain removed the flask from the stand, setting it onto the desk to cool.

"Now, pour out the powder onto a dish, and use this magnifying glass to identify the symbols. Once you have, pluck them out with the tweezers." He instructed again, before patting his hand onto the parchment listing the required symbols. "No more, no less."

Once the student had finished, Galadain inspected the dish, approving of the student's pluckings. "Righto. Now we Mix."

Galadain then took out another flask. "What is the base for this potion?" He asked. With the Studen'ts correct answer of 'Distilled Water', Galadain procured a jug of such, pouring it into the flask. "Now, pour in the symbols you extracted, and then give it a good stir." Came his final instruction, handing the student a small crystalline stirring stick.

As the student finished stirring, Galadain took the bottle, before corking it, labelling it, and handing it back. "Use it well. To make it glow, give it a good hard shake." he informed before allowing the student to ask any questions they might have.

Once the student was satisfied, Galadain sent them on their way.

Say your student powergames during or after teaching, how do you reprimand that?

Were it obvious or confirmed to me that it was intentional, I would ask my student as to why they decided to Powergame in this manner. I would then correct them, and warn them about doing so again, and stress the importance of it in terms of the server, the student and the teacher. Were it however accidental, I would merely tell them what they did wrong and warn them to be more careful, and to make sure that they are informed on the specifics of the alchemicals they are making or using. I'd answer any questions they have or direct them to the proper resources as needed. Should they be fully taught and no longer an active student, then I would have to inform an ST if they were to continue powergaming. Otherwise, I would drop them as a student.

Just throwing in my 2 cents, with experience within a number of development teams, both professionally and as a pass time.

Starting to feel like this is just the circle of life with RP server Staff teams.

Java; it's a real shame to see you let down by limitations from a convoluted and essentially ineffective hierarchy of permission groups and staff members. Being criticised for not being self reliant when the structure they have in place makes that borderline impossible is pretty frustrating - acknowledging this themselves proves this even more. People in Development should be given the tools required to carry out their development task; not having certain permissions gate-kept to keep those higherup than yourself relevant within the development life cycle, especially when they're being more of a hinderance in the process.

Listening to your gripes whenever you pointed out your need for pretty trivial permissions, that you hadn't been given, speaks a thousand words about the environment being enforced by some of the more 'veteran' tech team members. Though from an outside view, with a few quotes I've heard from current and previous staff members, this can be applied to pretty much the whole of management who think that what they want is what the player base wants, or what the server needs.

it's pretty disappointing to see some of the decisions and choices within management regarding the priority of issues and development prospects, choosing to focus upon mechanics that cater more to their own ideas of what might save this slowly dying server from haemorrhaging players, rather than the forefront issues dissuading the player base from even logging in.

Not to name any names, or point any specific fingers, but pushing all of the resources into pvp mechanics opposed to making the server consistently playable is a bit dent-headed to say the least - giving a fraction of the server more ways to click each other doesn't persuade people to deal with the obscene chunk loading and crashes created by a culture of co-existing with, and putting more pressure upon a spaghetti backend. especially when it means giving up on some of the other features and systems that would have been better to see down the line if given the chance, with a more reliable, scalable and stable backend.

Using lack of availability or lack of personnel as management isn't an acceptable excuse when the environment you're trying to recruit new developers into actively stomps upon the [redacted]'s of said new developers (assuming you're even trying to recruit new developers, wouldn't surprise me if certain members of management would be avoiding this to keep their grip upon the server direction from the shakeup involved in new devs POINTING OUT ISSUES ... wait a minute... )

Management; Reassess your priorities, re-organise the way you're managing resources access levels and team cultures, do better.

    My boy wicked smaht
