Abdul (Razzaq's father) sat himself next to Razzaq's mother, his hand wrapped around hers. Several old midwives bustled around the cramped room, fetching towels and fresh water for the labor-induced woman. She clenched Abdul's hand firmly and let out a sudden cry, the midwives abruptly stopping their tasks and rushing to the aid of Razzaq's mother. She let out another cry and increased the tightness of her grip on Abduls hand. Four long hours of painful screaming and pushing was to follow and eventually a new life was brought into the world. Razzaq's mother fell silent. She had succumbed to the trauma of giving birth. Abdul said nothing. He only held the newborn in his arms, failing to avert his gaze from his deceased wife. He just kept rocking the crying baby...
Twenty-three years on-wards, Razzaq and Abdul saw themselves in the sandy Caliphate of Athera, living a fairly normal life. There were some financial complications so Abdul had to give up his business of owning a barbershop and began working in the Tobacco fields along with his son. The wages weren't the greatest but the money was steady and his salary was just enough to provide a shelter and food for the two of them. On the eve of Razzaq's twenty-fourth birthday, rumors of a great exodus had surfaced. The rumors turned out to be true, to the horror of the citizens of a continent that had been home for so long. A giant worm had been disturbed from its idleness and emerged from the deep depths to engulf Athera. Luckily, the father and son escaped by boat but were separated once the ships landed. For two years Razzaq remained separated from his father, living an average life amongst the contemporary yet familiar walls. He helped with the construction of the city, nearly forgetting about his father. That was until he finally bumped into his father during an execution in Felsen...
