Garith cackled between cigar puffs and subsequent coughs, lounging in a plush armchair in his office. “Could’ve done without the letter to his wife… but I suppose if he wants to air out his dirty laundry to us all. How intimate!” More chuckles escaped him before he paused in thought. “In what world is the firstborn son of an emperor a false claimant?” Garith muttered bitterly. “These royalists have the combined brainpower of a slug.”

“I almost hope Minuvas doesn’t awaken for his own sake. To see what these fools have done with his legacy. Unfortunately not a surprising action from the likes of these two,” Garith shook his head as he lounged in a smokey office.

Garith’s head bowed in reverence upon hearing this news. “Aye, because this is what the Empress would’ve wanted,” he spoke with a tone dripping in bitter sarcasm. “Who knew that Frederick grappled with such insecurity, being the runt of the litter. He would stoop so low to kill the good Duke— what he fails to realize is that this action simply strengthens Peter’s cause.” He shook his head. “I was hopeful that I would get to know Ivan better some day. Garith crumpled up the missive, his office now littered with the likes of these statements. He spun his chair around to gaze once again out his window. ”You were once the most loyal of Imperials, cousin,” he muttered. “When we met those decades ago, you wore a wig to rival that of Philip II.” A bitter chuckle escaped him. “I don’t know what’s happened since then… please make the right decision in this.”

Garith sucked on his teeth upon reading the missive, setting the paper aside upon a growing pile of statements being released during the chaos of the Emperor and Empress’ deaths. “The cretinous peers whom pledge to Frederick the False need their heads removed,” he stated to himself, abruptly pushing himself up from his desk to stare vacantly out his office window. “How quick they are to abandon the core of Orenian identity— being an Imperial. Absolutely sickening. Long live Peter Augustus. May God favor him.”

The humble ambassador puffed his pipe while reading this missive, tendrils of smoke escaping his nose. He reclined in his chair as he set his feet up onto his desk, one leg crossed over the other. “Interesting timing, that was, resigning and departing right before the assassination attempt. And after the glorious stunt his daughter pulled. Hmm, hmm, hmm.” Garith paused. “I should pen a letter.” And the ambassador did just that.

With @SeventhCircle 's clarification, I actually think the consolidation of nations is a good idea. I remember at the beginning of Atlas there were groups that got nation status but were pretty much immediately inactive. In addition, vassalization is something that shouldn't be taken lightly IC or OOC, which I think this system helps reflect. The saving grace here however is that the groups that don't get nation status can still have the opportunity to have a green pillar, land, mine, etc. It'll be interesting to see how this system plays out, but I have high hopes.

The Servatius' were not a rich family, but Roland hardly knew want as a child, as his father was a well-off merchant. Roland endured a relatively normal childhood, though unlike most Heartlander young men, he did not find himself very interested in learning basic combat skills, and as such fell behind the other boys in that way. What interested Roland more than fighting and swords, were things like magic and history, of which he could never learn enough to satisfy himself.
