Naranias Half-Ear was born in 1637 in the Princedom of Fenn to a snow-elven mother, Lerennia and a human father, Boram. His parents met when Boram and his group of merchants and craftsmen visited the Princedom having travelled all the way from the Federation of Sutica. Lerennia was intruiged by the dark-haired man and shortly after convinced him to stay with her in Fenn where they married. Five years after Naranias was born, his parents took him to flee from Axios on one of the many ships that sailed the day the Cloud Temple fell. They got separated. Little Naranias desperately tried to find his parents, meeting an human girl that was equally lost. It turned out that her parents were killed before they could get aboard, and when Lerennia and Boram finally found their son, two blue, shy eyes peeked at them from behind him. The boy stubbornly declared that the girl was his new little sister. The couple took the girl in, adopting and naming her Erryn. Finding a home in the new settlements of the Princedom, Naranias and Erryn were raised as siblings, with the brother taking up arms and training as a soldier while Erryn showed a deep interest in arcane magic. When they were 16 and 17 years old, respectively, Erryn attempted to summon magical fire, unbeknownst to her parents. Naranias usually nurtured his sister's interest for science and the arcane arts, so he curiously watched, still dressed in his battle garbs from training while Erryn delightedly managed to summon a handful of flames. Pushing further, the young and unexperienced mage soon reached her limits, but despite the warnings of Naranias decided to push further. Seeing the flame grow, he wanted to stop her, but feared what the sudden disconnect would do to her. Only when their parents came rushing in did Erryn lose control, unwillingly unleashing a fireball that engulfed her and their parents, hurling Naranias through a window and searing his left side. The family home collapsed ontop of Lerennia, Boram and Erryn, killing them instantly. Having lost everything he loved, Naranias grew bitter and cold, refusing help and blaming himself for not stepping in when he should have. Magic became something he hated for taking away his family, distrusting mages and relying on his skill with the longsword to stay alive and feed himself. Turning to alcohol and wandering the lands, the half-elf worked as a sell-sword here, as a bodyguard there and did everything to distract himself from his loss, until he came upon an old man in a tavern while sulking over a bottle of mead. The man seemed very interested and wanted to know why he looked so miserable. Maybe it was the honey wine, maybe a need for release that he long denied himself - Naranias gave in to his inquiries and told all about himself, his past, his loss and his life ever since. Sympathy in his eyes, the old man encouraged him to not give up on this life just yet. As they talked through the hours, the orphaned half-elf could feel a burden lift from his heart, at least in part. When it was time to part, the old man revealed himself to be a teacher of the arcane arts. Surprised, but not appalled, Naranias thought about many things he had experienced in the last years. When he left the tavern, he felt a little less broken, a little less done with the world, a little bit more alive. Now he wanders the lands, looking for company, adventure and new sense in the world to live his life for those he lost. PERSONALITY Naranias is pragmatic, a bit eccentric and often somewhat offensive, making no secret of his opinion and often amusing himself with the small misfortune of others. Sarcasm is one of his main weapons and a wall he raised around his heart. But deep inside, he cares deeply about life and and the world, seeing a beauty in the wild and untouched landscape of Atlas where many would see only danger. Injustice is something he can't stand, although he will grind his teeth and play by the rules if he has no other option. Especially children and good-hearted people sometimes break through his hard shell and experience a warm and friendly side of him only few ever see.
