Haakon grew up in a time of great turmoil, having seen his family estate burnt down and his family made bankrupt by actions of merciless raiders. Forced to by his poverty, Haakon left his family and struck out into the world with the intent to return to his family rich enough to rebuild their home and to help his people. It was at the age of 17 that he joined up with a local mercenary company and earned his ‘stripes’, training at length with his father’s heirloom axe and making somewhat of a name in his company as a great fighter! Over four years he saved up plenty of minas and decided to return home to his family.
But tragedy had struck again, and his family found themselves nearly hopelessly destitute and down a member; his father had perished of the Plague - the same kind as had once blighted Felsen - and left very little behind, bar the axe and. . . a letter. Within, Haakon found directions to the Kingdom of Norland, and made all haste to join their kingdom, having brought his family along in hopes of finding a new home for them all.
