In a complicated world Jauques is a simple man, living a simple life, in the simplest way he can. Son to a farmer and miller’s daughter outside what was once Marna, he grew up uneducated and poor, often times skipping playing with the other children in lieu of helping his father reap the crops. A bit of this social exclusion made him take on a quiet and calm personality through his teenage years, and that demeanor kept with him throughout his adult life. Not much of note has taken place in Jauques life, but perhaps it is that lack of excitement that spurs his dream of traveling the continent. With money left over from selling his family’s land to make way for the new city of Carolstady on his hip and his trusty pitchfork over his shoulder he sets off down the road leading out of the gates of the city, not quite knowing where he’s headed to.
