  1. Far from the icebound plains and wintered fields of Morsgrad stood a woman, silver now tangled amongst her dark hair. Her brow creased heavily as she looked to the north and for just a moment she allowed her thoughts to stray back to days long passed and faces long lost.

“For so long I prayed to forget, yet... it would seem it is a mother’s burden to remember,” she murmured, though the wind swallowed her words no sooner than she had spoken them. ”May the Father guide you child, and aid you where he failed me."

  2. I almost never get genuinely angry about things that happen on the server, but for once I suppose I am.

Making bad decisions is okay - I don’t fault you for that. Not correcting them however, is unacceptable. Please do the right thing! Not just for his sake, but for the sake of the community he has, and will continue to should his ban be lifted, put so much effort into supporting as well. There is still time yet.

And thank you Qaz. This is a really well written post, I truly hope it can make a difference.

  4. Hi! I’m a little late but I’ll just drop this here anyway ?

The wiki is definitely confusing to navigate when you’re starting out, but luckily most of it you don’t need to use. Because of the in-game time system (one week equates to an in-game year), most of the cities and settlements you find there were abandoned a long time ago. The current continent where the server is set is named Arcas, and it’s been inhabited for just over 25 in-game years now. If you look at the wiki page on Arcas you’ll see a list of currently inhabited settlements.

I would recommend starting out with a young character as this gives you time to learn lore naturally at the same time your character is learning it, but this isn’t required. In wood elven culture your character would be considered a young adult at 50, but you can apply with a character of any age from 18 (their age of physical maturity). If your character is aged from 28-90 years old, they would have been born during the server’s previous map ‘Atlas’.

Here’s a brief overview of the cities a wood elf is most likely to have come from:

    • Irrinor – This nation was founded fairly recently, so your character wouldn’t have grown up there, but it currently seems to be the primary wood elven settlement in Arcas.
    • Aegrothond – Aegrothond is also an elven city, though it isn’t sub-race specific. It’s located on an island and has a very sea focused culture.
    • Sutica – A multiracial trade-focused city which accepts all religions/magic/etc.
    • Llyria – Llyria probably won’t have been around long enough for your character to have been born there. It’s another multiracial city which is very magic/knowledge oriented.
    • Gladewynn – This nation no longer exists but your character could have been born there. It was a wood elven nation in Atlas.

You’re definitely not expected to make your own skin – as long as it fits the medieval/fantasy theme of the server it will probably be fine. As Unwillingly pointed out, the LotC Skin Archive is probably the best place to go, there are loads of skins posted on it all the time but even if you’d rather use a different skin, I’d recommend checking out the skin archive first to see if the skin fits with the other wood elf skins there.

Take your time with your application, but remember that it doesn’t need to be perfect. The majority of applications don’t get accepted straight off the bat and if you make some mistakes the community team member reviewing your application will place it on pending and work through it with you to help you correct it. If you haven’t already, I’d definitely suggest that you hop on the server and take a look around the cities as a wandering soul (unwhitelisted player) to help you choose which settlement to come from and get a feel for the server.

This is starting to get a bit long, but if you’d like to know anything else feel free to message me on the forums or through discord (my account is Aqua#5363)! You can also ask questions as a wandering soul on the server or in the new player discord

Anyway, good luck with your application!!

  5. You’re one of the best people I’ve known on the server and I’m sure what you’ve done as a moderator and a player on the server has made a difference for so many people! It’s super sad to see you go but I wish you and your family the best ? Thank you for everything.

  6. Edyth’s lips twist into a faint, indefinable line as news of the event reaches her. She turns away and casts down her gaze to the rough floorboards under her feet.

”Paragons keep you,” the woman murmurs, burying her head in her hands as she remembers the keeper who had saved her life in Vilachia and the man Cassio who she had known since she was a child.

  7. Aww!!! I wish you the best man, even though it’s really sad to see you go. I really want to thank you, you’re basically the person that got me invested in this server and I probably wouldn’t have stuck around if I hadn’t met your character. It’s going to be a real loss for LotC, to lose a member of the staff and community who contributed so much!! I’ll miss you ?

  8. A young girl who couldn’t be older than ten presses a hand to her mouth as she overhears talk of the Owynists, eyes growing larger with every moment.

“But.. Surely they couldn’t mean us?” she murmurs through her fingers, a trace of worry in her words. The child turns away, a frown now heavy over her features as she goes about her day.

  9. Maria-Clara Des Rosiers lets out a frivolous sigh, throwing her arms high into the air in a rather dramatic manner. “Ze coronation is ‘appening and I ‘ave no more zan a Saint’s Day to prepare!” The young girl mutters, wringing her hands together anxiously. “Ze preparations must begin immediately..”

Describe your knowledge on the descendant races

Humans make up the largest proportion of the server’s player base. They aren’t very different from the humans we see in the real world, although some have been known to live a little longer. While they follow a vast number of distinct cultures, they’re largely divided into three sub-races: heartlanders, highlanders and farfolk. Each of these races is descended from the first human king, Horen. Humans also range a lot in height and build. Some are barely five feet, while others stand at well over six feet tall. The curse of mankind is their brief lifespan – the average human lives less than a century, although there are a few who have survived for nearly 150 years.

Elves are descended from Malin. A little taller on average than humans, they stand anywhere from around five feet to seven feet tall. They tend to have a slender build and their ears are, of course, pointed. Their complexion, eye colour and hair colour, however, varies widely between the four elven sub-races: wood elveshigh elvessnow elves and dark elves. Elves are not hindered by the length of their lifespans as the humans are and can live to be a thousand years old, allowing them to acquire a great deal of wisdom and knowledge over their lifespan. While they mature physically at the same rate as human, elves are not culturally accepted as adults until they reach several decades of age. Their long life comes at a cost. The curse of the elves is infertility which is why large elven families are rarely seen.

Orcs are the descendants of Krug. They have exceptional physical capabilities which by far exceed the norm of any other race. They’re easily recognisable as they’re the largest and ugliest of all and they even have tusks! Orcs are divided up into three very different sub-races. The uruks are the most common, about six to seven feet in height and have similar intelligence to humans. Ologs are by far stupidest, but what they lack in brains, they make up for in brute strength. They range anywhere from ten to twelve feet in height. The smallest (standing at around four to six feet) and weakest of the orcs are the goblins, who’s intelligence and cunning are a fair trade for their lack of physical ability. The curse of orcs is their insatiable lust for war and blood.

Dwarves share the common ancestor Uruguan. Their stocky build, short stature (roughly three to five and a half feet) and beards make them very distinguishable from the other races. Dwarves love clan life and tend to make their homes in grand and elaborate citadels and fortresses deep within mountains or underground. There are four sub-races within the dwarves: mountain dwarves, cave dwarves, forest dwarves and the less common dark dwarves. The dominant religion of the dwarves is the Brathmordakin. The curse of the dwarves is their greed.

Describe your knowledge on other pieces of lore that you believe to be relevant

While I know a decent amount about the human nations, cultures and religions that I’ve been involved with, my knowledge on some aspects of the lore is rather limited. I don’t think this will be a significant disadvantage to me however, because I love learning about lore, and I’m more than happy to read up on and do some research on anything that comes up which I don’t already know about.

Detail what drives you to become a member of the application team

I like meeting people and I want to help the server grow. Having a good and friendly community is something I believe is really important and that all stems from how we handle and teach the people who are just starting out on LotC. I think it’ll be fun to get to know new people and help them get into rp! It’s something that I love, and I want to make sure that other people get the best introduction to it that they can. I want to help make the overall caliber of rp and ooc conduct on the server the best it can be, and I see the AT as a way to do that.

Provide an alternate way to assisting new players apart from reviewing applications

Answering questions, helping them integrate into existing communities on the server and even just being patient are all things that can really help new players. When your new, it can be really daunting to go up to other players and include yourself in rp. Sometimes people just need a confidence boost, a point in the right direction and a few pointers. One way to help this is to initiate rp with them at cloud temple and give them a few tips on what to do next, so they have a goal. Also just sending them a message in game or through discord to ask if they need anything might be handy. Talking to people in the wandering soul chat is a great idea too, because it can really help people get a better understanding of the server and feel like they know somebody before they’ve even started playing yet.

Survey the application process and provide any possible improvements which could be made

One thing that I had a lot of trouble with when I was trying to apply to LotC was finding information that was up to date. Often the lists of nations and such are quite old and difficult to find. As a new player, when you’re already overwhelmed by the amount of lore on the server, this can be really frustrating and confusing. I also think that major free builds like Dunshire, which still have a lot of activity and rp despite not having nation status, should be included in the list of current nations. While updating these lists and maps is a small task, I think it could make a really big difference! Other than that, I really like the way the application process is looking. I think the difficulty of filling out an application is relatively well balanced. Not too easy and not too hard.

Provide any additional information that you believe is needed

My timezone in Oceania means that I'll be online when a lot of the other AT members aren't. I'll be able to get to the applications submitted during off hours a lot faster, meaning that those players don't have to wait as long to start playing.

Another thing I should note on is that this is my second forum account. My main forum account is Aqua_.
