Gardain Flint stems from the Emberhorn clan, however his childhood was not an easy one. His mother died in childbirth, and his father had left the clan prior to Gardain’s birth. Being brought up as an orphan was not an easy life, and often he was looked down upon, and was only helped out of a sense of pity, or more often in return for labour. This quickly led to Gardain Flint despising his very existence, and once he turned 14, he packed his bags and quickly made his way from the clan, trying to find his own calling in the world.
After a week on the road, he ran out of all the gold he had saved up and quickly found himself begging passing travellers for food. One of these travellers was a human named Anitor Overgast, a merchant who took pity on the young dwarf. Allowing Gardain a place in the merchant caravan, Gardain quickly became very close to the various people there. Soon, he got to learn the trade, and came to be a valuable member of the merchant caravan, and after only a few months of travelling with them, the 20 or so people strong caravan became Gardain’s new family.
Travelling Arcas with this caravan, Gardain got to see much of the world, and learnt much of other people’s cultures. Life was good, and he was happy. This would change however, as one day, right around the time of Gardain’s 23rd year, the caravan got ambushed by bandits. This was not the first time, however it would be the last, as the caravan got severely overpowered by the bandits. Most were killed, some were taken prisoners, and only Gardain escaped. Finding himself alone in the world, scared and angry, he turned to drink and found himself making money through very unorthodox means, often through criminal enterprises. Gardain was a broken man, and the only thing that kept him alive was a burning desire for revenge. He spent many long years tracking down the bandits, and when he finally found them, he also found the prisoners of the old caravan had been long since been dealt with. And when he looked upon himself, he wondered if he was any better than the bandits which had stolen his life from him, as he too had murdered, stolen and taken lives just like they had in the past years.
With no desire to live, severely depressed and spiraling further and further into a pit of despair, he found himself without options to carry on. It was then, however, that he met a dark elf called Cordelia. She helped him onto his feet, gave word of encouragement and promised him that she would help him through these dark times of his life. After travelling with Cordelia for several months, Gardain only grows more and more infatuated with her, as she has quickly become his one source of purpose in life.
