In your own words, what is powergaming, and why should it be avoided in roleplay?: If I was to tell another player something out of character that their character would not know, then they use that information in the roleplay, that would be metagaming.
In your own words, what is metagaming, and why should it be avoided in roleplay?: Basically being a Mary-Sue. Overpowered, especially when overpowered without valid reasoning.

Edelweiss was born to a pair of loving parents in Haelun'or. The edelweiss flower symbolizes qualities of adventure and great sacrifice, due to it's location. To retrieve the flower, one must scale dangerous mountainsides to reach the top, the only place where it naturally grows. Nearly fifty beings in one year will die making the trek for the precious flower, but Edelweiss' father survived the journey and brought it back home to his girlfriend, soon to be wife. Edelweiss is an only child born to a family that was never the highest in the social hierarchy, but they were also not social pariahs either. They were comfortably average, or as Edelweiss would say, mediocre. She grew up despising the middle class she was born into, and longed for a higher social ranking. She was planning on marrying up, and had even met a nice man to marry, when disaster struck. She found her promised sleeping with another. What made things worse, however, was that he was caught with another male. Heartbroken, Edelweiss stormed out of his home to be alone. She has an affinity and love for fire (perhaps she is a bit of a pyromaniac, but she would never admit to something so barbaric), so she was planning on perhaps burning leaves or something alone. But her boyfriend caught up to her and explained himself, saying how it was a "mistake" and that he was willing to suppress his desires to marry her. She didn't understand why, because she was of a lower ranking than him; what would he have to gain? She had always been so focused on the social construction of her society that she failed to realize that he had fallen in love with her regardless. So she left him, her heart in pieces. Thinking of her name and what the flower symbolizes just fuels her rage and disdain towards her social status and love life, and she, on multiple occasions, has thought about changing it. She doesn't speak to her mother though, since her father died, so part of her wants to keep her name in honor of him. She's at a crossroads currently, unsure of where to go or what to do in life. She wants something different, something exciting--anything but mediocre.

She begins, then pauses to study their face—”Ah, it’s you. I’ve been expecting you. Sit,” she gestures at a chair, “Where do you come from? What do you hope to make of yourself?”
