Anielle Astrange was born on the outskirts of Markev, Haense to Roland and Helena Astrange. The couple had initially hoped that they'd be blessed with a male heir to carry on the family's farming business, but were given a daughter instead. Helena unfortunately died during childbirth, and Roland Astrange was left with their only child. Choosing not to remarry another woman, Roland and his sister, Margot, raised Anielle alone on the farm. There, Anielle began to develop the appreciation and understanding of hardwork, a trait she values and hopes to see in people.
Though Roland loves his daughter, the thought of never having a son of his own made him ever so miserable. So, he tried to make Anielle into the son he always wanted. He trained her to use a sword, molding her personality and skills with the weapon around Hanseti culture. Unfortunately, due to her father's rusty swordsmanship, Anielle was injured and blinded when training with her father. Relearning how to operate without sight proved be to a challenge, and for a while, Anielle felt useless on the farm. Not wanting to be a burden, she convinced her father to continue learning how to fight with a sword.
After several years, Anielle's skills in swordfighting grew better, and she learned to overcome her handicap for the most part. To this day, her blindness proves to be a sensitive subject for her. With this insecurity, she began to create an arrogant persona for herself in order to battle her feelings of self inadequacy. Often, she boasts of her ability to fight well despite being blind.
While living on her father's farm, she began to realize that she found the thrills of adventure and sword fighting to be more enjoyable than farm life. Anielle wanted to make a name for herself, she wanted to venture off into the world to master sword fighting; to reap the glory and fame she always desired. Her father was growing old, and she knew that he and his sister would not be able to labor on the farm for much longer. She wanted to give them the right to die in comfort rather than working themselves to death.
Finally, Anielle Astrange left the farm at age twenty in order to pursue her dreams. She refuses to return home until she can make a name for herself, and to earn a job that will allow her to make a respectable amount of wealth for her family.
