James grew up in Haense where he how to wield a blade from his father who was a guard there. He became very good very fast, and his father began to send him to tournaments. He was a cocky lad due to his many victories, and one day, he decided to skip Church thinking he did not need God. The day after, he lost his first duel, and cried for days. He was dumbstruck by this event, and went out drinking. This led him to get into a street brawl where he broke his arm. Unable to fight, or pay the doctor, he became a priest to make up for his sins. However, he still practices the blade, hoping to one day be as good as he was before, if not better.
