    In your own words, what is powergaming, and why should it be avoided in roleplay?: To avoid powergaming, I focus on ensuring that my character's actions and decisions are realistic and open to interaction from other players. I make sure that any actions my character takes, especially in combat or conflict scenarios, are attempts rather than guaranteed outcomes. For instance, instead of saying, "My character slashes the enemy," I would say, "My character attempts to slash the enemy," leaving room for the other player to respond appropriately. This approach respects the collaborative nature of roleplay and maintains a balanced and immersive experience for everyone involved.
    In your own words, what is metagaming, and why should it be avoided in roleplay?: Metagaming disrupts fair roleplay by introducing knowledge that a character wouldn't naturally possess, which undermines the authenticity of the roleplay environment. For example, if a player uses information from out-of-character conversations or from other sources that their character wouldn’t logically know, it breaks the immersion and can lead to unfair advantages. This not only disrupts the flow of the story but also diminishes the enjoyment for other players who are adhering to the in-character knowledge constraints. By avoiding metagaming, we can ensure that the roleplay remains genuine and fair for all participants.

Roleplay Scenario:

You’ve just arrived in a swampy, dim town. As you look around, your gaze is met with shacks and cabins. It smells of rotted wood and wet moss. You duck and step into a tattered tent, illuminated by a series of candles suspended in the air. At the back of the tent, an old hag raises her head, “What brings you to this dingy town? she begins, then pauses to study your face—”Ah, it’s you. I’ve been expecting you. Sit,” she gestures at a cushion, “Tell me your story.”

Aria Lycan sits down, adjusting the cloth covering her eyes, and begins, "I come from a small, hidden village deep in the forest, where my parents, Eamon and Liora, raised me. The village is peaceful but isolated, with little knowledge of the outside world." The old hag nods, asking, "And why did you leave such a place?" Aria responds, "I left because I wanted to learn more about the world beyond our village; I needed to grow beyond its boundaries." The old hag then inquires about the cloth, and Aria explains, "I wear it to blend in and protect myself, as my dark eyes are distinctive and could draw unwanted attention." The old hag, understanding, says, "A wise precaution; may your journey for knowledge be safe and fulfilling." Aria thanks her, feeling more determined to explore and learn.
