Your character has just arrived in a swampy, dim town. As they look around, their gaze is met with shacks and cabins. It smells of rotted wood and wet moss. They duck and step into a tattered tent, illuminated by a series of candles suspended in the air. At the back of the tent, an old hag raises her head, “What brings you to this dingy town? She begins, then pauses to study your face—”Ah, it’s you. I’ve been expecting you. Sit,” she gestures at a cushion, “Tell me your story.”
((How do you respond?))
Sally doesn't answer immediately; her eyes scan the interior of the tent for a few brief moments, a habit of a careful traveler, who always takes surroundings into account, only stopping for a little bit on suspended candles before her attention goes back to the tent's inhabitant.
—”I don't know why you've been expecting me, given that I would normally avoid this... Charming place," she says, briefly nodding in the direction of the tent's exit, then continues, ”But there is no harm in telling you a bit about myself, I suppose," she shrugs.
Sally then makes her way to a cushion the old hag gestured at earlier, carefully taking a seat and gathering her thoughts.
—”To keep it simple, I am something of a mercenary. Don't misunderstand though, I only take a job I am comfortable with, and if there is no fighting involved then it's even better," Sally places a hand on the hilt of her sword. ”I know my way around the sword, but only fools put themselves in unnecessary danger, you know? It's mostly a means for me to keep traveling the land."
She suddenly stops talking, seemingly deep in thought...
—”To tell you the truth, I always wanted to learn magic, but in the town I grew up in, it's easier to find people who are good with a sword or a bow to learn from.” The girl finally continues, glancing at floating candles again, ”As to what led me here... I was asked to gather some herbs and got a little bit overconfident in my knowledge of this area.” She chuckles. ”Mind trading me a map of these lands so I don't get lost again?”
