In your own words, what is powergaming, and why should it be avoided in roleplay?: To avoid powergaming in a roleplay server, in my opinion the key is to staying true to your characters lore and ideologies. Every action should stem from who your character is and what they believe, not from a desire to dominate the game. This means embracing your character's strengths, weaknesses, and flaws while staying within the narrative framework of the world. For example, if I were roleplaying, I would stay true to a character who is deeply money hungry, driven by a relentless need to acquire wealth through any means necessary—be it cunning schemes, risky deals, or bending the rules. However, this wouldn't mean my character would also crave power. My focus would be on amassing riches, not controlling others or becoming the most dominant figure. This approach keeps the character grounded and consistent, avoiding the trap of powergaming. As a dnd owner and player I always take this outlook on what im doing because it keeps me proggressing and feels the best.
In your own words, what is metagaming, and why should it be avoided in roleplay?: Metagaming disrupts fair roleplay because it involves using knowledge your character couldn’t realistically have to influence their actions.

Character Name: Bly Hye
Character Race: Human
Character Gender: Male
Character Age: 18
Physical Description: I stands at a solid 5 feet 11 inches, with a skinny, unmanaged build that reflects years of paperwork and talking without much physical work.
Roleplay Scenario:

Your character has just arrived in a swampy, dim town. As they look around, their gaze is met with shacks and cabins. It smells of rotted wood and wet moss. They duck and step into a tattered tent, illuminated by a series of candles suspended in the air. At the back of the tent, an old hag raises her head, “What brings you to this dingy town? She begins, then pauses to study your face—”Ah, it’s you. I’ve been expecting you. Sit,” she gestures at a cushion, “Tell me your story.”

The rancid smell of rotting wood and stagnant water doesn’t faze him; he’s encountered worse in his quest for profit. His eyes scan the tent, searching for anything resembling opportunity amid the gloom. "It matters not how dingy a town is if it has opportunity for business. Now, tell me what’s here that’s valuable?"
