    How do you avoid powergaming in roleplay?: Using knowledge your character should not have or did not earn yet to gain the upper hand against someone else. For example, if a character used knowledge against another character that was gained through a discord chat or some other application that your character wouldn't have access to that would be considered metagaming.
    How does metagaming disrupt fair roleplay?: Attempting to force an encounter to go in your favor, be it through actions forced upon your opponent with no chance for them to avoid/counter it or avoiding/countering your opponents actions against you to an unrealistic degree. For example, *I stab my blade through your heart before you even blink* would be powergaming by fatally wounding someone with inhuman speed and no chance to react.

After looking around and taking in the area for a moment Nilovok would suddenly snap back to reality and recognize that the well dressed man had asked him a question. "I'm sorry what was that? I was slightly lost to the void for a moment..." He'd reply before giving a sheepish grin. 
The well dressed man would repeat himself
"Oh, adventure I suppose." Nilovok would think to himself for a moment. "Oh that's right!"
Reaching into his bag Nilovok pulls out a small piece of paper and charcoal
"Do you know where the nearest library is?" Nilovok inquires. 
The man would give directions
Nilovok would write down the directions on his paper
"Thanks!"
Pulling out a coin Nilovok would hand it to the man before heading off
