Charles was born in the Imperial city of Providence, the only son of a reasonably wealthy merchant family. His father was Sir. Richard Butler, a former soldier, now merchant. He was a strict man man who wanted to leave a legacy worthy of his name, and Charles mother was Mrs. Catherin Butler, she was a kind and caring mother who was there to provide support for Charles when ever he needed it.

He was named after his grandfather, Sir. Charles Butler 1st, a soldier and knight in the Imperial army who served during the War of Two Emperors. Charles was tutored at a young age, learning to read and write by age 6 and was later put into private school, where he learnt about economics, history, science and business, but was also made to take part in physical activities in school, being told by his father to "Push to be the best, no son of my is going to be a weakling."

By the age of 13 he was a top grade student and was one of the fittest students in the school, coming in 3rd and 4th in two different school competitions. This made him popular at school and all the attention, plus the constant work given to him by his father made him a very tired and over worked child, but he was still happy thanks to his mother. But it still wasn't enough for his father, he wanted Charles to be better then he was, he wanted his son to be his greatest work yet, so when Charles turned 14 years old, he was sent to a military school, this was to ensure he had an education to work in government and in the army when he was older. This was his first time away from home, and for the next 4 years he trained hared in a fort near the borders of the Empire, here he learnt how to clean armor and wear armor, he learnt how to hunt and prepare  food, he learnt how to use and weald a sword and he learnt how to ride and take care of a horse. At age 19 he was released and was sent home.

But when he returned he found out that his mother had died to illness and that his father had lost a large chunk of his wealth. Charles father wanted Charles to get a job in the government so that he can be guaranteed a good life and so he could support him in his time of need. Charles, determined to make his father proud and to prove himself went off to make a name for himself to make his father proud and to honor his mothers memory, but only after a year of being gone he was called back home for his father had become gravely ill and was bedridden. Charles rushed to return home but was too late and was told that his father had already died. Charles was distraught and used the last bit of his fathers wealth to ensure he was given a good burial. After this, Charles, believing that he failed his father and his mother was determined to bring honor back to his family and so once more set off to prove himself to the world and to make a name for himself.
