Chimoya

Klaas was born to a poor family of farmers in the Orenian Empire. Living on the farm, he had a tough life, having to help out his father a lot with the taxing labour of maintaining the farm, so their family could make it to the next day. In his free time he liked to practice with a sword, as he figured that it's a dangerous world, and to survive one must learn to fight his own battles. Eventually his training bore fruit; when another guy tried to steal the woman he loved, he challenged him to a duel - Klaas with his many years of practice managed to best his opponent, striking open his stomach which caused his guts to spill in the mud of his poor farmers village and kill the guy. Besides the now-dead man the victorious Klaas earned the love of that woman. However, nothing lasts forever and five years later Klaas wanted to visit his lover only to find she had tragically died in a fire. 

After this loss, Klaas fell into a depression and became an alcoholic - drinking every night to numb the pain of his sad existence. He was poor, miserable and heartbroken. In this state he had nothing to lose, and so he started taking on dangerous jobs, escorting merchants over risky routes, collecting debts, hunting bears and wolves that happened to come to close to villages for their liking and sometimes robbing people for some coin to get by. And so, Klaas wanders, - a hand always placed on the hilt of his sword, ready to fight without much regard for his own life and secretly hoping that the next battle would be his last.
