Born and raised in The Kingdom of Hanseti-Ruska, Nicholas Denethor is merely the son of a Kaedreni farmer. Having 2 older brothers inheriting their fathers farm, he decided to go shape his own future in the Capital City of Markev.

His childhood was at first untroubled: No wars ravaged his home and only the occasional bad harvest or illness troubled his mind, until one day bandits robbed the Farmstead, located at the Czena River, of 7 year old Nicholas' family and killed his mother, Judith. This event gradually distanced Nicholas from his father, Harald, who started drinking to fight the sorrow he felt from the death of his wife. The farm had to be taken over by Nicholas' older brothers, then 17 year old Robert and 15 year old Odo, as he never learnt farming and his brothers didn't find the time to teach it to him. For years he managed the finances of the farm, always having been good with numbers, or helped with simple repairs. When he was 13, an old man, whom Nicholas assisted in his daily life, as he was too old to properly care for himself, taught Nicholas how to read and write. Most of Nicholas' free time was spent in the tavern with his friends from neighboring farmsteads or aiding people in need, making Nicholas' a popular fellow in the area surrounding his home, this all changed , however, a few days after he turned 20 and fell sick, rendering him unable for enlistment, making him unable to fight against the Staunton Uprising to avenge his King. Following his recovery from illness Nicholas decided he did not want to live the rest of his life like this. One day a caravan of traders, on their way to Markev, came by their farmstead. Nicholas promptly decided to join them on their way and after a long journey, spent mostly by listening to troubling tales of the travelers of a arrived in Markev. With only the belongings he was able to take with him, he now is in Markev, without a plan, but with ambitions and ready to shape his destiny.
