Grimm was born to a living mother and father in the kingdom of Haense, in the year 1730. His father was a woodcarver, and his mother stayed home and raised Grimm and his 4 older brothers, and 1 older sister. His mother had been a religious scholar before getting married, and taught all of her children about the religion of the kingdom, the Church of Canon. Grimm was close with his sister because his brothers were all off living their own lives by the time Grimm was very young, but his sister was only 4 years older than him. Also, Grimm’s brothers were all deeply interested in religion, but Grimm had little interest in those things. Grimm believes that the Church of Canon is true, he just doesn’t much care for learning about religion in any detail. He also didn’t take to woodcarving much so his father mostly let him explore the woods around their home, and got him a bow so he could hunt for extra food to sell. When he was 16 Grimm joined the Brotherhood of Saint Karl (the primary military force of Haense) as an infantryman in the Chapter of the Crow, but during training he was switched over to a more specialized scout division that had just been started. It was a small division within the Chapter of the Crow meant to be a smaller more elite force of highly mobile troops. The scouts were trained in stealth, awareness, and other wilderness survival skills. Grimm excelled in his training and was noticed by some of the higher ups. He advanced in rank quickly, and by the time he was 25 he was the head of the scout program, and commanded all the other scouts. Grimm’s primary weapon was a bow, but over the years he trained himself to fight with knives and axes as well. At 28 years old some of Grimm’s scouts brought him back reports that there was unrest in his home city, over some rumors about embezzlement in the city government. Since Grimm’s scouts also worked as a peacekeeping force he was going to go try and settle the city, but was ordered not to. The unrest escalated into riots and Grimm’s mother, father, and sister were killed. When Grimm heard the news he got very angry, and in his rage yelled and physically intimidated several higher ranking officers, getting him kicked out of the army and thrown in jail for a year. When he got out of prison he left the country and from then until now he goes around doing things to try and further his agenda, which is to start a new nation in some unclaimed, unexplored territory. He now hates any kind of authority, and doesn’t really like being around most people unless he’s in charge of them. He’s had very few close friends, and to be friends with him you have to know him long enough that he puts down his rough and hard demeanor. Once he does that he is a relatively nice person, though still a bit gruff, he basically just takes a long time to trust people.
Grimm stood there for a moment not looking at the man (who he assumes is the mayor), just long enough for the smile on the man’s face to waver. He then turned and said with a somewhat annoyed expression, “My purposes are my own. Rest assured that I mean no harm to you or this city.” The man looked taken aback by the intensity with which Grimm spoke. “I mean no offense good sir, but your response seems a bit rude.” Grimm grabbed the man by the front of his shirt and got up right in his face, speaking these words forcefully and clearly. “I.. Don’t.. Care.” Grimm let go of the man’s shirt and stepped back. The man patted his shirt back down, but didn’t say anything else, he looked a little scared. Grimm said “I don’t want to hear anything else from you. I don’t want to be here, and if you want me to leave, then make sure nobody in this city gets in the way of what I have to do.” Grimm stood there for a few more seconds, and watched as the man opened his mouth to say something, then thought better of it. Grimm turned sharply, and walked into the city.
