Mars Ultor is a proud Andunian, and was raised on a small farm in the Empire of Renatus by his grandfather Gaius Ultor. His grandfather had taught him all the legends and histories of his people, as well as the stories of the undead hoard that brought about his people’s downfall. Growing up on these stories, Mars believes in his heart that the Kingdom of Adunia can be reborn someday, and has always been on the lookout for any sign of such an opportunity. His grandfather instilled in him all he knew of hunting, fighting, and strength, in preparation for the day he would become a man. The day Mars turned 17, his grandfather dropped a sword at his feet, and challenged him to a duel. Seeing this as a test, Mars took up the blade and fought against his old yet extremely skilled grandfather, praying that Garth Haryn would grant him strength. After several minutes of intense swordplay, Mars’ youth and training proved him the victor, earning him the first smile he’d ever seen on his grandfather’s face. Standing from the dirt, as proud as he ever was, Gaius Ultor blessed his grandson by Rymeuk Elendil, Vercator Varmir, and his own sword, bidding him to strike out in the world as a true Andunian man, to seek his destiny. Packing his newly earned sword, provision and some equipment, Mars left his grandfather that very same day as an equal. He has been traveling alone since that day through the lands of Arcas, exploring the world and taking work where he can find it, constantly searching for a sign of his beloved Adunia’s return.
