In your own words, what is powergaming, and why should it be avoided in roleplay?: In order to avoid powerplaying, I would be more mindful of my responses, keeping outcomes of actions vague instead of making sure they result in a specific outcome, making sure not to control another player's actions or responses, and only keeping to my own character. It's important to respect the autonomy and decision-making of other roleplayers, so I wouldn't overstep and try to force my ideas for how the story will go onto them and will have to work alongside their character's actions and abilities. If my character is fighting against someone who would story-wise be stronger than her, then I wouldn't suddenly make my character have the skills to defeat that player. I will keep my character's actions and abilities realistic to my character's set abilities, backstory, and skills, and any character development that she goes through.
In your own words, what is metagaming, and why should it be avoided in roleplay?: It really breaks the immersion for the story and the players involved, and it can also ruin the story's progression, what could have been a good story arc about finding clues, having characters put information together, maybe hearing rumors from others and having in-character discussions with other characters and learning information that way (or maybe false information) gets ruined when it could have added a lot to a story and given it a lot of possibilities for character arcs, relationship building, and good stories. All those possibilities can be skipped because of meta-gaming. Some information that is purposely held secret (in-character) is held that way for a specific roleplay or story reason by that player and when someone metagames and reveals that information, it can derail that player's plot for their character in a way that's counterproductive and doesn't build up their character or the story in any meaningful way.

Character Name: Agathe
Character Race: Human
Character Gender: Female
Character Age: 23
Physical Description: Weighs around 130 and is 5'4. Has pale skin, very light brown hair and brown eyes. She wears a blue dress with an apron.
Roleplay Scenario:

Your character has just arrived in a swampy, dim town. As they look around, their gaze is met with shacks and cabins. It smells of rotted wood and wet moss. They duck and step into a tattered tent, illuminated by a series of candles suspended in the air. At the back of the tent, an old hag raises her head, “What brings you to this dingy town? She begins, then pauses to study your face—”Ah, it’s you. I’ve been expecting you. Sit,” she gestures at a cushion, “Tell me your story.”

((How do you respond?))

Example: "Oh, Me! Well there isn't much to say about me. Not to say that I am a bore! Why I would never say that about anyone, not even myself. Oh what to say, what to say." Agathe fiddles with her hands, absentmindedly scratching her thumb with her index finger as she clutches her hands together "I suppose it is a bit of a tale for why I have journeyed this far. To make matters short, I have come to live my life. On my own that is!" Agathe beams as she glances towards the entrance of the tent to the dim outdoors "I spent most of my life cooped up you see! my father was a merchant, a successful I would surely say! He'd tell me stories of all he'd seen.. well not exactly him telling me specifically but I would often hear his regaling his wondrous tales to his clients" Agathe pauses a second, her face scrunching up in thought "Not exactly his tales usually either, now that I am dwelling on it, my father didn't travel far himself, he stayed reasonably close of course! No doubt to stay near family.. But still those stories I overheard inspired me! I too wish to see all I can! It has been such a delight so far and I have learned so much! I've learned you can't just drink water from rivers. I never knew it was unsafe, I never had to drink anything that didn't come from the kitchen staff. It's been a lot of work so far, all this walking, washing my own clothes, buying my own food, and the mud around here is.. quite plentiful! But I know I will learn fast. I mean how hard can it be, I have gotten this far.
