Tormund Orvalis was born into what appeared to be a loving family. His parents, Galvin and Hendora Orvalis, sought to give their son a bright and proper future. By the age of 9, they enrolled him into the academy of Haelun’or to study amongst the elf-folk to become a scholar of the arts. The academy was an unforgiving place for a child, especially for humans as the elves would berate them for their impurity as often as possible between studies. His parents would hush the complaints of their child, saying that it is what it takes to attain the high education. This left Tormund in a pretty bad state, he felt alien in the environment and had no friends to help him. Age 11, an elven girl named Valri’an approached Tormund and offered him companionship and aid, and stood up for him against the bullies. He finally felt accepted in the school now that he had a friend. At age 14, developed a crush for Valri’an and a year later, mustered the courage to confess his feelings for her. She was hesitant of it, she feared that they would be targeted for an impure relationship, but Tormund reaffirmed to her that he would be there, and they would fight it together.
Everywhere, both inside and out of the academy their relationship was berated by the people of Haelun’or. It reached a tipping point when the mockery turned personal at age 19. The bullies targeted Val’s family and honor, and eventually she couldn’t take it anymore and ran off crying. Enraged by this, Tormund had enough. He slugged one of the bullies in the face, knocking him to the ground, teeth and blood laid scattered. This obviously resulted in Tormund being caned in discipline and suspended from the academy for a year. His parents were furious with him and grounded him for the duration of the suspension. With no sign of Valri’an in sight, Tormund was once again in complete isolation. During his grounding, his parents fought and Galvin walked out. He cursed the man but still cared for his mother. He spent the remainder of his isolation playing with his fathers cards that he had left behind, and playing with some dice to try and create a new game to keep him occupied. By age 20, Tormund returned to the academy, students shuffled away from him and the teachers looked down upon him even more. Valri’an had began to hang out with other groups, avoiding Tormund as whispers uttered his name from the edges of his hearing. At age 21, Tormund received a letter from Valri’an stating she wanted to speak with him that night behind the academy grounds behind the Gazebo. Wanting to finally talk with her, he went. It was a trap, surrounded by the bullies wielding clubs and daggers, he turned the tides, beating up the bullies with their own weaponry. The bully he had punch, the one with the dagger, the one who insulted Valri’an, Tormund had knocked with the club he snatched. The elven bully stumbled towards the cliff, Tormund raced over to try and save him. The bullies screams as he hung onto dear life from Tormund’s hands alerted nearby staff of the academy who came out to aid Tormund in recovering the elven bully. The staff scolded all four of the students, but none received as harsh of a punishment as Tormund. Despite the testimony from the elven bullies, Tormund was expelled and sentenced to jail for assault on the elves.
He spent the next four years in Haelun’ors Dungeon, playing with his cards and showing his card games to the other prisoners. Eventually, a visitor came for Tormund, a robed figure with no discernible face, informed Tormund that his mother had fallen ill, though due to his actions, Haelun’or refuses to treat her illnesses. Tormund was shocked and asked if the robed figure could do anything to help. The figure spoke of a special magic that could grant him the ability to heal his ailing mother, a type of power to heal that would not require the botany knowledge or the divine connection of a priest. A magic called Shade, that could help change his life around for the better. Tormund stated he would be unable to do so given his sentencing, let alone knowing where to look. The figure snapped their fingers, a dark, viscous portal opened beneath Tormunds feet, as the portal swallowed him, the figure merely uttered Llyria before Tormund went through the portal. When he got through the portal, he fell into the center of the Cloud Temple of Arcas. Tormund knew not what had happened or what this magic the figure spoke of truly was, he only knew one thing: his mother is ill, and the only chance to help her lay in Llyria.

“I’m in search of knowledge, I seek answers to my questions that not many truly know.” *he nods his head to the gentleman before brushing past him to continue onward* “I must be off, farewell.”
