How do you avoid powergaming in roleplay?: Metagaming is what happens when players use personal knowledge in a game that their characters would never know. Metagaming is any approach to a game that exceeds or operates outside the prescribed rules of the game, uses external factors to influence the game, or goes beyond the presumed limits or environment set by the game.
How does metagaming disrupt fair roleplay?:  In role-playing, powergaming is term for a role-player whose style of play indicates that his goal is rather to improve his character's values, stack gold and defeat as many enemies as possible instead of developing the character's personality and contributing to the story. Powergamers who play RPGs generally attempt to make their characters as effective as possible within the game's framework, possibly (but not necessarily) by exploiting broken or badly worded rules.
