In your own words, what is powergaming, and why should it be avoided in roleplay?: Using knowledge gained OOC (out of character) in an IC (in-character) setting, often to your advantage. I.E. I learn by talking to an admin the lore function of some random secret rock, then proceed to spout off about how much my character knows about it despite them never learning of or hearing of the rock in-universe.
In your own words, what is metagaming, and why should it be avoided in roleplay?: Making yourself extremely powerful without sufficient time or storytelling reason or generally steamrolling others with your character's powers in-character. This includes stating your attacks land definitively within emotes, pulling new powers and abilities from thin air to avoid loss, etc.

Guriek was once one of the mighty Clan Raguk, years ago when they were still mighty and vast in number. He was raised on blood, steel, and glory in the name of their clan as stood fiercely among the races of the world. As a young orc, Guriek was sold completely on the ideals spouted to him by his elders.

The glory of his ancestors, of his clan, of his people. It was proven by strength, combat, and conquering. While others toiled away in mines and forges, Guriek joined the warriors. He trained, he bled, he learned.

And when the time came, Guriek ran into battle alongside his brothers-in-arms. They slaughtered their enemies regardless of race in glorious combat, but for Guriek it was not so glorious. All the training, all the stories, none of it could prepare him for the screams or the sounds bones and flesh made as they were broken beneath his shield and axe.

As the battle came to a close and they proceeded to slay their injured foes who remained, Guriek could not find the will to carry out the act. For this he was imprisoned, punished, and shamed.

For failing his duties on the battlefield, Guriek was branded a traitor and deserter by his clan. Marking his flesh with burning steel and leaving him with only what was on his person, Guriek was sent into exile by his own people.

Though he tried to join other clans of orcs, the branding on him marked him as an orc of ill-reputation and dishonor. He found himself turned away at every corner until Guriek eventually came into the territory of the Wood Elves.

Though not fully accepted, his use as a mercenary has been taken into account by most of the settlements he came across. He now works as a hired protection for traders, travellers, and businesses.

Character Name: Guriek The Clanless
Character Race: Orc
Character Gender: Male
Character Age: 70
Physical Description: Guriek is a fairly standard sized orc at 7'5" with a large, muscly build. His right tooth is chipped and a scowl is often placed on his face.
Roleplay Scenario:

Guriek looks upon the city that sprawled before him, face remaining unchanged. It was a bustling hub of noise and life, too busy for his taste. Too many people with motives, schemes, plots, he didn't enjoy such things. Still, perhaps there was work to be found. As he thought this to himself, a strange approached him and bombarded him with questions and overly-energetic excitement he was not accustomed to.

"Hmph." responds the Uruk, turning from the man and walking away. He didn't have an interest in the showboat or his questions, if there was good work to be had then he would find it in the closest tavern.

Well done! This is one of the best applications I've seen in a long time. I have sent you a request on Discord so I can help set things up with you.

Now that you’re accepted, you will spawn in Cloud Temple as a player and be able to interact with the world around you. If you need any help, you can message me in game by doing /msg Sockages. Lastly, if you need any guidance in-game, and I am not around, please do /creq along with a message as to what you need, and another Community Team Member will get to you as soon as possible!

After reading the below information and logging into LotC, I highly recommend sending this in chat so a Community Team Member can help you out:

/creq I have just been accepted and would like a Wilven Monk!

When joining, the bot may be down that normally automatically whitelists you after the acceptance of your application. So, please go into the wandering soul channel (#ws) and ask for a Community Team Member to accept you!

I highly recommend you join the LotC discord using the invite link below, and please look through the New Player Hub!

In addition, I recommend taking a look at our Settlement Guides. Below, I’ve linked the settlements you may be interested in based on your character’s biography!

If you aren’t interested in any of those, take a look at our Settlement Guide Hub!
