Zal'Ak was born into a family who, at the time of his birth, betrayed their clan. The father was killed while the family was trying to escape the warriors sent to execute them. Him, his mother and his older sister managed to escape the walls of the city. After travelling for days on end, and struggling to survive, Zal'Ak's mother dumped him in the streets of the nearest city in hopes of survival for her and the older sister. Zal'Ak was taken in by a priest, where he was raised under a religious household. Zal'Ak was a problem child. His inherited lust for blood quickly became a problem for the priest as he entered his adolescent ages. Zal'Ak refused to devote himself to the priests religion and consistently got into fights with other children who ridiculed him for his race. He could never pay attention when the priest would attempt to educate him, resulting in Zal'Ak being very academically dumb. Zal'Ak eventually found himself running with local street gangs as their muscle when he reached his teenage years. Though grimey and deceitful, Zal'Ak had convinced himself that he finally found a home among these common thieves. He ran with the same crew for years to come, until he was caught up in a robbery gone wrong. A mole within the gang had ratted out the rest of the crew, which resulted in the local military ambushing the crew. Zal'Ak had begun to fight without question, tossing guards left and right, beating them with his bare fists. It wasn't until Zal'Ak started to become exhausted and injured that he decided to look to his crew for help. Unfortunately when he turned around, the rest of his crew laid dead or running away, abandoning him and leaving him to the hands of the military. He was taken alive in hopes that he would rat out the rest of the living members of the crew. This had led nowhere with the soldiers as Zal'Ak, under no amount of bribery or torture, would break his loyalty. After about 2 years of sitting in the dark and dank cell, the priest walked in the door of the dungeon alongside a guard. the guard unlocked the cell and Zal'Ak stood up in a state of urgency, with confusion and fear in his eyes. He knew he had disappointed his adoptive father, and felt a deep lump in his stomach. He expected the priest to finally lash out, hit Zal'Ak, leave him. But instead the priest walked up to the giant Orc, and wrapped his arms tightly around him. Zal'Ak felt a rush of relief and happiness around him. The priest explained that he negotiated with the military and was able to save enough money to buy the Orc's freedom. Once home, Zal'Ak explained the story to the priest over dinner. That night, Zal'Ak found it difficult to sleep. He tossed and turned all night, feeling guilty for the stress he had caused. He knew he had caused nothing but trouble for this upstanding priest, even tainting his name. He wrote a very illegible note to the priest that night, explaining that he was leaving the city in hopes of returning to his clan and fulfilling his destiny as an Orc. Zal'Ak grabbed his rudimentary axe, wrapped a couple loaves of bread and a slice of cheese in a cloth, and left the city that night. He survived in the wild, hunting, gathering, and farming for a few years. He had taken on a wolf cub that was abandoned by its mother, just as Zal'Ak was. He named the wolf "Luzk", or "Axe" in Orcish language. This is to signify the wolf is not only a weapon, but his right hand, a reliable friend. In the present, we find 36 year old Orc, Zal'Ak, making his travel to the Warnation of Krug, leaving his family name behind, and hoping to redeem himself to his Orcish brothers and sisters.
