    In your own words, what is metagaming, and why should it be avoided in roleplay?: Playing to be the strongest instead of playing for roleplay. (making a godly character for example)

His parents abandoned him and his brother Nakram when they were little. So they had to grow up alone in the streets of Oren. Being the eldest of the 2, he had to provide for both of them. This wasn't easy considering the circumstances but Nakram always seemed to find stuff that was valuable, but being the unlikeable person Nakram is, he couldn't manage to sell any of it. Markus however was a very sociable and persuading person, so he managed to sell the stuff without to much trouble. They managed to make a living that way. Markus found an interest in potions and decided to set off to learn more about it, and make money of course

Roleplay Scenario:

he greets him while trying to find a place to settle.

"I'm here for money, there has to be things of value a can gather and sell right?"

After a bit of conversation, he finds a place to settle his shop and try to gather rumors of the place.

Maybe he could find something to do, maybe a monster to kill.
