Hellavindur Athri's parents met when tensions between the Haelun'or and the Dominion of Malin were rising. Her High Elf father was a part of the rebellion against the Dominion of Malin and her Dark Elf mother Followed him into settling at Haelun'or when it gained slight independence, where she faced a fair amount of racism. When the Holy Orenian Empire fell, Vin's parents chose to have a child at the end of the when the government systems stabilized. Though the High-Elves were evolving more tolerance towards other elves, it is a slow process and she grew up dealing with a great deal of exclusion and discrimination because of her mixed heritage. Her mother passed away from a foreign illness during travels before Vin turned 18 and her father was left to raise her on his own. He believed that the next step to more peaceful relationships with other races involved not combat, but dedication to knowledge, for all cultures had things to learn and share. After studying Elven history under her father, she set out in her 40s to explore on her own, learn a trade, and develop her understanding of new cultures. She left with a strong passion for inclusion, and a rejection of her mother's family oriented culture, thinking dedication to heritage led to segregation and discrimination. She struggled to form relationships and reach out to people for the first 5 years abroad. After gaining her bearings and learning to be independent through forage and small trade, Vin now seeks to master new skills and create a home for herself away from High Elf puritanism.
Startled by the welcoming man, Vin clasped a hand on her cloak and thought a moment about his question. "Curiosity, I suppose," she replied, "I find the diversity of this place alluring. If you'll excuse me, it's been a long journey and I won't get to taste local cuisine just standing around." She gave a light smile and waved to the man as she strolled past him, eager to explore.
