I would however like this character to be an aged version of the older persona.
Dae Maethor now older and wiser realizes what Atlas has become. He notices that the old Atlas he has come to love and know is no longer the same. His years doing guard work has developed his mindset, he is no longer as naive as he once was, the populace are unpredictable and things can spiral out of control unpredictably. Dae remains cautious of his surroundings, he initially thought Malinor was worth saving, he's not so sure of this anymore. People's minds are subject to change, mindless narcissism reigns sovereign over the people. Leaders change, motives remain the same. Selflessness is a myth within Atlas at least as Dae Maethor has come to view the world. The only thing that keeps Dae moving is a search for purpose, something worth saving.
