Hegnart was raised in a humble family, his beginnings amid outskirts of the Holy Orenian Empire on Axios.
In his youth he assisted his father in tending to a small pasture, enough for a simple living.
His mother was uniquely situated, she was a modest reader and could pass on her literacy to her son. And his father? He was a broad shouldered stubborn oaf who swore on his small piece of dirt and refused to budge at all.
As a young adult Hegnart would have been content to remain with his father on the humble plot if not for a formative moment. Passing trade caravans were no uncommon thing, but one particular time he met a Cloud Temple monk and quickly lapsed into eager conversation. Curiosity did not grip him then, at least not immediately, and he bid farewell to a fellow he would never see again.
Years later, aged 41, Hegnart emerges with his simple and battered wooden staff onto Atlas. He has since put his history past him and steps boldly into a daunting world, laying open before him with mysteries aplenty.
