Your character has just arrived in a swampy, dim town. As they look around, their gaze is met with shacks and cabins. It smells of rotted wood and wet moss. They duck and step into a tattered tent, illuminated by a series of candles suspended in the air. At the back of the tent, an old hag raises her head, “What brings you to this dingy town? She begins, then pauses to study your face—”Ah, it’s you. I’ve been expecting you. Sit,” she gestures at a cushion, “Tell me your story.”
((How do you respond?))
"Hey.. uh.." Elera looks around, her face still looking at her but Elera's eyes were still wandering around the hut. After a moment, Elera notices she had yet to respond to her, snapping her eyes back to her with a wide gaze. "Oh, I was passing through actually... wait.." The elf's head tilts to the side with her eyebrows coming together in curiosity, wondering how she knew to expect her. After a quick realization that she is a user of magic due to the nature of the room, the wanderer eases her face and return to the conversation. "I am simply passing through, trying to find a beast who's hide is as smooth as wine, but as insulant as wool." Her eyes look down, with her shoulders relaxing, trying to tell herself that there is nothing to fear. "I had already gone through my own troubles in the past, there is nothing that can stop me now" She thought to herself. The elf take a deep breath and looks back up at her. "I am a leatherworker and tailor from my home, but I had to start hunting as the supplies started to dwindle. After some months of hunting, I overheard a conversation in a tavern about a beast who's hide would be perfect for my shop. Well, if it still existed..."
Elera looks behind her own shoulder, checking if there is anyone else there before truly letting her guard down. After a brief moment, she takes her hands onto the lower part of her cape to tuck it inwards, sitting down on a damp, run down stool. "My home town has gone through many hardships, with famine being the driving factor. We all had to flee and find something new, but no matter where we went, we always ran into the same problems. The suffocating bureaucracy and rules in our small culture was enough, and I decided to go on my own." She looks back up at this strange woman, looking over her ragged clothing once more. "And thus, I have taken it upon myself to find this fabled hide to prove to myself that I can truly live on my own. That I am self sufficient, and do not need such a government to survive and thrive in this world."
With her mouth finally finding it's rest, the elf perks up with sudden-found confidence. "This doesn't mean to say I am completely averse to society. In fact, I am in the search for one, but it takes time for me to truly settle in and decide what to do." She looks down and away, as if the confidence was simply a fleeting memory. "Well, only if a society would even take me in, a high elf from a failed government... I know full well through my travels that others have their own preconceptions of us." The tired elf looks back up at this lady, who was kind enough to lend an ear to her short tale. "Well, I must ask... If you can see the future of us meeting, what else can you tell from this?"
