Kegan briskly extended his hand in greeting. “Ah, nice to encounter such warm reception when I’ve barely gotten onto dry land! Name’s Kegan by the way, but you can call me ‘Fiery’ – that’s what everyone calls me during my adventures, and that’s what my name means anyway. As for why I’m here? A little bit of everything I suppose, but I’m chiefly out to make a name for myself. And I mean this literally, I wasn’t even given a proper surname, though if all things go well, I will take what I was not given.”
Noticing the man’s increasing apprehension, Kegan lets out a hearty laugh. “Oh, I don’t mean by looting or pillaging, that’s too... uncivilised, wouldn’t you agree? There are more peaceful ways of earning one’s way up. Merchanting or banking aren’t too bad, or perhaps serving as a guard, or even being a cartographer. The possibilities are endless. This is a city, isn’t it?” Kegan chuckled once again, yet his eyes darted left and right as he scanned the docks for other ships. If his companion hadn’t arrived yet, she should be here soon.
