Born in the year of 1564, presumably in the Mali’ame capital of Laurelin on the isle of Vailor, Faendal never knew his birth parents being raised by two humans, who he only knew as Ma and Pa, on the outskirts of the Holy Orenian Empire on their self-sufficient farm. Ma and Pa were sure to be honest with Fae in his heritage, and taught him the very little they knew from human whispers that wasn’t racial slander, and the minimal interaction they had with the Mali in their travels predating the adoption of Fae. Raised to be spiritual, but not religious, Fae believes in the “Mother” figure whom was central to Ma’s bedtime stories and legends, and worships through her “Deck of Cards” and monthly rituals at each full moon.
The loss of Pa in the Orenian Conquest of the Dreadlands in 1576, several years after their transition to Axios, forced the remaining two of the dynamic family to move to safer lands beyond the reach of the Holy Orenian Empire. Wandering as nomads for several years, sustaining themselves on selling pieces of woodwork, and Fae using her “Deck of Cards” to sate the need for some whimsicality of fellow travellers, Ma and Fae settled in Sutica; using their skills as woodworkers to house fellow wanderers seeking shelter from their respective homelands. And so they lived for many years, happy and content, moving with the hoards to Atlas in 1643. During transit to the new lands, Ma finally died of natural causes, leaving Fae alone with his own loneliness. The shock of losing the last of his family forced him to flee into the wilderness for years, fearing the company of others but also total isolation, resulting in his constant muttering under his breath. And now he returns, in search of meaning for himself and the "Mother" construct that seems a little too real for Fae.
