In your own words, what is powergaming, and why should it be avoided in roleplay?: I avoid powergaming by always respecting the limits of my character and the choices of other players. When roleplaying, I make sure my actions are realistic within the world, and I never force outcomes on another character without giving them the chance to react. For example, instead of writing an emote like "I stab you in the chest and kill you", I would write "He attempts to stab toward your chest", allowing the other player to decide how their character responds. I believe roleplay is about collaboration, not control, so I focus on fairness, immersion, and creating a fun story for everyone.
In your own words, what is metagaming, and why should it be avoided in roleplay?: Metagaming disrupts fair roleplay because it breaks the separation between player knowledge and character knowledge. When a character acts on information they could not realistically know, it removes immersion and gives an unfair advantage. For example, if I hear in voice chat that someone is hiding in a forest and then have my character suddenly go there to find them, that would ignore the character’s perspective and ruin the story for others. To avoid this, I make sure my character only acts on what they have personally seen, heard, or learned in roleplay.
